Quotes of the Day:
- “It is the height of hypocrisy for the Obama administration to restrict the gun rights of border state citizens, when the administration itself knowingly and intentionally allowed guns to be trafficked into Mexico”-Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) from DOJ gives new tools to ATF on guns
- “These days, when the President says that we have to “eat our peas”, I no longer know whether he’s offering a metaphor or invoking the Commerce Clause.”-Commenter PackerBronco on Ann Althouse’s blog.
Today’s must reads:
- What the Revenue Debate is About: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs!”
“I do not want, and I will not accept, a deal in which I am asked to do nothing. In fact, I am able to keep hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional income that I don’t need, while, uh, a parent out there who is struggling to figure out how to send their kid to college suddenly finds, uh, that they’ve got a couple thousand dollars less in grants or student loans. That’s what the revenue debate is about.” -Barack Obama, July 11, 2011
HT Ann Barnhardt who asks: “Please tell me which of my assets I “need”, and which of my assets I do not need, and thus should be forcibly confiscated by the Internal Revenue Service and redistributed to someone more worthy of them.”
File Under: Times are tough all over. Obama Income 2009: $5.5 million. Obama Income 2010: $1.7 Million .[HT: Commenter BillT ] On the other hand, he does lead an all expenses paid lifestyle so he can indeed have some “extra” laying around.
Then again, under Obama it can truly be said, “A million dollars isn’t what it used to be.”
- Here is a little ‘something’ Obama and the Democrats want you to forget about, until they kick in that is. By the time they are done there will be no HOPE to have any CHANGE left in your pocket, the government will be sucking every last penny out of you. Taxes upon taxes upon taxes
The Wall Street Journal editorial “Taxes upon taxes upon taxess” didn’t get anywhere near the attention it deserves. While Obama is out stumping for tax increases, the Journal reminds us of the tax increases that are already baked in the cake thanks to Obamacare:
Keep in mind that Mr. Obama has already signed the largest tax increase since 1993. While everyone focuses on the Bush tax rates that expire after 2012, other tax increases are already set to hit the economy thanks to the 2010 Affordable Care Act.

There is precious little coming out about the actual situation at the Fukushima plant partially because there is no one actually working on anything inside the plant. What little that is being done is by robot because the radiation levels are too high for humans to work in there.
The eastern Japan city of Kashiwa said Monday high levels of radioactive cesium have been found in ash from garbage disposal facilities in the Chiba prefecture city.
The Kashiwa municipal government detected 365 to 70,800 becquerels of cesium per kilogram in radiation checks conducted at two incineration plants and one final disposal facility between late June to early July.
Kashiwa keeps ash containing 8,000 becquerels per kilogram or more of radioactive materials in temporary storage, rather than using it for landfill, based on Environment Ministry guidelines. If the amount of contaminated ash keeps increasing, the city’s garbage collection could be affected.
This is little more then a ‘nothing to see here, move along’ propaganda piece. The interesting thing is that they felt compelled to actually do one. I can’t imagine why….High levels of radiation detected in Northwest rainwater
In nearby Montevideo, more than 20 flights were cancelled due to the ash clouds, officials at the Carrasco International Airport said. Most of the flights were to or from Buenos Aires, but departures for places like Lima and Porto Alegre in Brazil were also cancelled.
Weather experts at the airport said flights will likely remain grounded for the rest of Friday.
Provinces in southwestern Argentina, including Rio Negro and Neuquen, are in a state of emergency due to widespread damage caused by a massive layer of volcanic ash from the Puyehue.

There probably is a reason for the sudden move higher in gold, but we don’t know or care. At this point the end of Ponzism is a given. Just a matter of time. Next stop for gold $2,000, then various multiples of $1,000 after. But first, the all time nominal high of $1,577 from May 2.
I can reliably state that the surge in gold and currencies like the Yen indicate a crisis of massive proportions is on the horizon and it portrays a poor conclusion for the U.S. and Europe.
The only conclusion that I can draw from this Monday swoon is that we’ve hit the tipping point: This is the start of the eurozone endgame. It is now only a matter of time before the eurozone breaks apart. Therefore, get back in your seats, buckle up, and brace yourselves good—‘cause it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
If Italy goes, it’s not clear that the rest of Europe can save them. In the FT, Neil Dennis says people are talking about doubling the euro bailout fund to €1.5 trillion–or about three times the size of TARP. And you may have noticed that the bailout fund has not actually stopped Greece’s descent into debt madness. Italy’s public debt is not much smaller than Germany’s, even though the latter obviously has a much bigger (and richer) economy. In the event that things really go south on the Italian peninsula, I don’t think there’s enough money in the rest of Europe to provide a rescue package.
In a speech before the of economic experts at the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian prime minister had the following to say: “Thank God, or unfortunately, we do not print a reserve currency but what are they doing? They are behaving like hooligans, switching on the printing press and tossing them around the whole world, forgetting their main obligations.” What appears to have angered the former KGB spy is the end of QE2. According to RIAN: “Putin’s comments came in the wake of the completion of the US’ quantitative easing (QE) 2 program on June 30, in which the Federal Reserve bought $600 billion worth of its Treasury bonds. The Fed’s first round of QE, which ended in March last year, amounted to less than half the size of QE2.” We can’t wait to hear what expletive Putin will usher once Bernanke launches QE3.
While everyone in Washington was concentrating on the debt crisis this week, the Obama administration attempted to slip through a questionable arms deal that requires serious scrutiny. Though it got little attention, the Defense Department officially notified Congress on Friday that it was authorizing the sale of 125 M1A1 tanks to Egypt as well as other weapons, equipment, parts, training and logistical support. While most of the military sales to Egypt have sailed through without objection in the more than 30 years since it signed a peace deal with Israel, this is the first such sale since the fall of the Mubarak regime earlier this year. Which is exactly why the sale ought to be held up until the unsettled situation in the most populous country in the Arab world is better understood.
Congress has 30 days to register its formal objections to the proposed sale. That it should do so is imperative. The reasons for a delay are not complicated.
In the wake of Mubarak’s fall from power, the Egyptian military seems to have retained a firm grip on power. But the army seems intent on sharing power with a resurgent Muslim Brotherhood movement that threatens the foundation of the relationship between the United States and Egypt. Since the 1979 Camp David Accords, the Egyptian military has gotten all the high-tech and expensive equipment it wanted so long as it was clear their new toys would not be used to threaten or attack Israel. But as Egypt lurches toward the election of a new government that will probably be made up of Islamist elements, that peace is in jeopardy.
Muammar Ghadaffi appears to be throwing in the towel. Stratfor has just given out these two news releases (approximately 3 hours apart) that the Libyan Prime Minister is ‘ready for unconditional negotiations’
French embassy guards fired live ammunition on Monday to prevent a crowd from storming France’s main diplomatic mission in Syria, in what the foreign ministry described as a “blatant” violation of international laws.
Syrian security forces were doing nothing to stop the incidents, which were recurring, a ministry official added.
“(France) reminds (Syria) that it is not with such illegal methods that the authorities in Damascus will turn the attention away from the fundamental problem, which is to stop the repression of the Syrian population and to launch democratic reform,” foreign ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said.
That means changing the intended recipient of the outstretched hand from the tyrants to the people, and brandishing a clenched fist at the tyrants. Is Obama capable of such a drastic change? It’s very unlikely. More likely he’ll brag about sanctions (that he opposed for years) and continue to make feckless statements about the need for “changed policies” by Assad, Khamenei and Ahmadinejad.
But then, he probably knows that wimps don’t win reelection. Americans despise wimps, and as Machiavelli said, popular contempt is the single greatest danger to any leader.
Always remember that Assad is Obama and the Democrats BFF. They would rather see Americans and Syrians die then do anything that might make their BFF Assad angry… Pathetic. Obama Responds to Attack on US Embassy in Syria… With a Lawsuit

A Chinese product falling apart after two days? Go figure.
A Chinese motorway has collapsed just two days after it opened, causing the deaths of two people, after builders were ordered to rush the project so it could be unveiled for the 90th birthday of the Communist party.
The 57-mile-long Xinsan motorway, through the mountains of Yunnan, was supposed to be a perfect example of how the Communist party has rolled out pristine infrastructure to even the most remote areas of China, creating economic prosperity.
Despite warnings from the construction team in charge of the project, it was included in the list of “glory projects” to be unveiled for the party’s 90th anniversary on July 1.
Why yes, honorable general, that scenario would be better for both our sponges here and your military in China. A win-win for both socialist regimes I’d say. If I remember correctly a similar sort of lullaby scenario worked very well for the Japanese in the 1930s… right up until December 7th, 1941 when we woke up. After that things went….. well… sideways, and then into the fire.

While William scored four goals in the sport of kings, Murdoch was desperately trying to stop his media organization, News International scoring any more of its own goals. In a breathtaking turn of events Friday, we saw the arrest of Andy Coulson, former News of the World editor and aide to Prime Minister David Cameron. His arrest will not be the last.
To remind late comers it was Prince William, second in line to the throne and heir to a thousand year institution, who was first into the battle with the mighty media baron. It was he and his private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton who reported their concerns about phone tapping to Scotland Yard in 2005. Now six years later the corruption at the heart of the media, police and political complex is fast unraveling, Murdoch’s troops in chaotic retreat.

“Diversity” is where nations go to die. If local Mennonites or Amish were segregating the sexes and making them enter by different doors for religious services in a Toronto grade-school cafeteria, Canadian feminists would howl them down in outrage. But when Muslims do it they fall as silent as their body-bagged sisters in Kandahar. If you’re wondering how Valley Park’s catchment district got to be 80-90 per cent Muslim is nothing flat, well, Islam is currently the biggest supplier of new Canadians, as it is of new Britons and new Europeans. Not many western statistics agencies keep tabs on religion, but the Vienna Institute of Demography, for example, calculates that by 2050 a majority of Austrians under 15 will be Muslim. 2050 isn’t that far away. It’s as far from today as 2011 is from 1972: The future shows up faster than you think.
A world that becomes more Muslim becomes less everything else: First it’s Jews, already fleeing Malmo in Sweden. Then it’s homosexuals, already under siege from gay-bashing in Amsterdam, “the most tolerant city in Europe”. Then it’s uncovered women, already targeted for rape in Oslo and other Continental cities. And, if you don’t any longer have any Jews or (officially) any gays or (increasingly) uncovered women, there are always just Christians in general, from Egypt to Pakistan.
More space for Islam means less space for everything else, and in the end less space for you.

The Corps of Engineers is maintaining record releases at both Fort Randall Dam in Pickstown and Gavins Point Dam in Yankton amidst a forecast calling for as much as 3 inches of rainfall in the Missouri River basin.
Fort Randall will remain at 156,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) and 160,000 cfs at Gavins Point, said Jody Farhat with the water management office in Omaha.
“The reservoirs, especially at Oahe and Fort Randall, are so close to the crest that we have very limited flexibility with releases downstream,” she said.
“There is nowhere for any additional water to go,” Director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s NWS Jack Hayes said in the NOAA statement. “While unusual for this time of year, all signs point to the flood threat continuing.”
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Service has forecasted above-average rain in already-vulnerable areas of the upper Midwest and Northern Plans in the next two weeks, and for much of the region in monthly outlooks.
Rising temperatures over the Rockies will add to the flood threat, releasing water from the remaining snowpack.
Remember this every time you have to put gas in your car, use electricity or natural gas and the products mad out of them or transported by them. The Obama administration is doing everything they can to shut down all energy production in this country except for the Unicorn farts and rainbow driven ‘green’ energy projects…There is More Oil and Natural Gas in Western States Than in Several Oil Countries Combined
America’s energy-rich western states stretching from North Dakota and Montana on the Canadian border to New Mexico on the Southern border can produce enough oil and natural gas to replace what America presently imports from Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Columbia, Algeria, Iraq, Russia, Venzuela, and Kuwait, according to a new study conducted for the Western Energy Alliance.
The study was conducted for the alliance by EIS, with data analysis provided by ICF.
According to the study’s executive summary, the western states can produce as much as 1.3 million barrels of oil per day by 2020, and 6.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas annually by the same year.
But this year, just as the U.S. is worrying about its own debt crisis and a possible “double-dip” recession, the price of bacon —that sizzling, smoky comfort food we most need during tough times — is expected to surge. The price of pork bellies, which is where bacon comes from, jumped to more than $130 per hundredweight (100 pounds), and some analysts suggest it’s going to top last August’s level of $150.
Six bucks a pound. That’s what we’re looking at. Ralph Nader may get his riots after all, unless we drill here, drill now, and wean ourselves off demon ethanol.
Bottom line: the bean counters will now be forced to revise their Q2 GDP forecasts well lower. And while Q2 is now a scratch, the problem is that this weakness is now continuing into Q3.
Your tax dollars at work…Newest Line of Business for Big Banks: Slumlording
After months of liberals crying the deficit is falling, the public still is not buying it.
So far, John Boehner is sticking to his guns in the budget talks, rejecting out of hand, Obama’s One trillion tax hike “deal” – which only makes sense because as JE Dyer notes at Hot Air; it’s the Democrats who occupy the indefensible ground.
Essentially, their position is that if Republicans won’t agree to raising the debt ceiling and raising taxes, the president will use his discretion to default on US government debt after 2 August. They don’t put it that way, of course, but that’s the reality. If Obama defaults on government debt, it will be because he decided to, not because he had to. He could be impeached for making such a decision.
The debt discussions led to an interesting exchange, as reported by Jake Tapper of ABC News:
Boehner said at one point that “it’s clear to all of us how big this spending problem is. Congress keeps voting for programs we can’t pay for. But look, entitlement cuts aren’t easy for us to vote for either. Our guys aren’t cheerleading about cutting entitlements.”
“Your guys already voted for them,” the president said, referring to the budget offered by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wisc.
“Excuse us for trying to lead,” Boehner said.
Eat your peas, Barry. Tear off that Band-Aid and eat your peas.
In short, Obama sees a need for a permanently bigger government and a lot more tax revenue to fund it. Had Obama agreed with his own debt commission and Republicans, a big agreement was possible. Or he could have proposed real reforms to entitlements. But he declined and there wasn’t a mega-deal. Don’t blame Boehner for that.
Obama says he wants a big deal, maybe because he needs an economic win to counter the faltering economic recovery and deprive the GOP of the “big spender” line of attack in 2012. Maybe he is finally listening to Tim Geithner and Jack Lew. It all reminds me of President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at the 1986 arms control summit in Reykjavik, Iceland. Reagan walked away from a deal that would have eliminated nuclear ICBM’s in a decade because it would hobbled research into the Strategic Defense Initiative. Reagan was right to walk away then, and Boehner would be right to do the same now.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) offered his strongest criticism yet of President Barack Obama’s leadership in the ongoing talks.
“I have little question that as long as this President is in the Oval Office, a real solution is unattainable,” he said on the Senate floor Tuesday. Adding, “This was not an easy decision for me.”
Obama, he said, “has presented us with three choices: smoke and mirrors, tax hikes or default. Republicans choose none of the above.”
McConnell added the Democratic budget plan would provide only “a couple of billion dollars in cuts up front with empty promises of more to follow.”
‘”I had hoped to do good, but I refuse to do harm,” he said.
Just words…Right after he said that he folded up like a house of cards. Senate Republican Leader McConnell Folds On The Debt Ceiling
In blatant contradiction to the Constitution and intent for the separation of powers, Republican Senator Mitch McConnell has proposed solving the debt ceiling issue by handing over the power of the purse (specified under Section 1 Article 8 of the Constitution) over to the Office of the Presidency.
Great. The President can start wars, and the Constitution, is dead. Won’t be long before he puts us all to work picking carrots to be sent to Libya.
Time magazine didn’t have to wait too long did they? It is being killed with the help of our great conservative leaders.
Nobody Thinks, Congress just made itself obsolete. America would be better off if we just sent two guys (Sam and Dean Winchester) to rule us all, making decisions by playing Rock, Paper, and Scissors, instead of a Congress filled with career men sucking up to the oligarchy of the global network of psychopaths.
This is not surprising. Why doesn’t she go all the way and put a “D” behind her name? RINO Superstar Olympia Snowe Says She Won’t Support Debt Deal That Cuts Entitlement Spending…
“My concern is that we have a President that is not willing to do his job and that is to prioritize the spending. That he is digging in his heels, being very intransigent, and he’s being a rigid ideologue. And he must understand that every single one of his economic policies have failed. So I think it’s time that he realize that he does not have the moral high ground in this argument.”
Guess who “he” is.
Rope. Tree. Some assembly required…What he fails to mention is that it is the actions and policies of the Democrats and the Obama administration (which he is a member of) that have caused this. Hope and Change™? We are all drowning in it thanks to them! Geithner says hard times to continue for many
“it’s going to feel very hard, harder than anything they’ve experienced in their lifetime now, for a long time to come.”
This is a president who acts like a spoiled rotten baby — who rides around in a ridiculously large Cadillac that is equipped to fend off, I don’t know, small nukes? — who eats $100-a-pound hamburger — who has never had a job but who has always had a position — who wrote blank checks for two years before voters elected a Republican House to tell him no — and he dares tell Americans that they have a spending problem?
The media should laugh this idiot off the stage. (My reply to this is they won’t because they are his whores..)
Peas? Band-Aids? Dismissing the American people as children should carry a huge price — one I hope he pays on November 6, 2012.
Read the whole thing! The Giant BlackEyed Pea-Brain of Barack
Let me get this straight: Obama has spent more money than all the past Presidents combined, and NOW he wants to fix it, by having us give him MORE money?
Who’s the big glutton here?
NOBODY SAYS: You stop giving all those big expensive parties for all your friends, taking all those expensive vacations, and giving away trillions to big unions, and Wall Street, and other countries like Greece (He just gave them another 780 BILLION for a bailout) and stop acting like the spoiled dictator child in diapers first, who likes to start expensive new wars to make himself feel important, and we’ll eat whatever we please Mr. President, because we pay YOU.
Oh…that just never sank in, did it?
Today, it was reported that Michelle Obama had a big hamburger with French fries, which contained enough calories to float a fat friggin flotilla—setting another fine example of how the elite can do whatever they want, while telling the rest of us to sacrifice.
“So, when you hear folks saying ‘Well, the president shouldn’t want massive job killing tax increases when the economy is this weak.’ Nobody’s looking to raise taxes right now. We’re talking about potentially 2013 and the out years.” (emphasis added)
Re-elect me to get massive job killing tax hikes when I’m a lame duck and you can’t do a thing about it. That right there is a sure-fire winner of a message. If you want to morph into Walter Mondale circa 1984.
Granted, nobody should believe a single thing Obama says about anything – (including his denials that he knew anything about Fast and Furious), but in light of his press conference today, ahead of his budget negotiations with John Boehner and the Republicans, I thought it would be good to count the ways Obama has been duplicitous and disingenuous in his actions re the economy, (which he really and truly seems hellbent on destroying.) As always with him – you have to look at what he does – not what he says. As the saying goes — if his lips are moving…..
And for all the president’s “let’s make a deal” rhetoric, it remains that he and the Democrats are committed to tax hikes — and hostile to spending restraint.
And yet they wonder why the economy remains so weak.
“Eat our peas” indeed.
After watching Obama’s press conference this morning, Democrat pollster Pat Caddell said it is time to confront the elephant in the room: That is, the question as to whether Obama actually has any idea what he’s doing.
He must be talking about the elephant in the MSNBC green room, or something, because I think everyone else has been openly wondering about that for some time now – and we have serious doubts.
Mostly it was Obama pushing the theme of “I’m reasonable” and they are not. We need to “eat our peas” and “pull off the bandaid,” he said, with plenty of class warfare, bringing up the “corporate jet owners” and oil companies again.
It also was a rewrite of history. A completely irresponsible president who just months ago proposed a budget with devastating deficits, repeatedly demanded that the deficits and debt be dealt with now, without any delay. Where has he been for two years?
“Revenue enhancements” must be on the table, the president insists.
Not long ago, Obama warned that raising taxes in a struggling economy is “the last thing you want to do.”
Real leaders have to be willing to take the heat. Then there’s VP Biden, who just puts out hot air:
During another exchange, Republicans were going through proposed tax increases as bad for jobs.
“C’mon, man!” Vice President Biden exclaimed, “let’s get real!”
The Vice President argued that their opposition isn’t economic, it’s ideological, that no real economist thinks they’re “job killers.”
I just felt a wave of hopelessness wash over me, so please insert your own rational comment about “real economists” and clownish, jabbering ideologues here. I don’t see how we’re going to right this ship.
“Ronald Reagan would have accepted this plan,” one of the Democratic officials said.
I can’t speak for the Gipper, but when Reagan was president the national debt was around $2 trillion, so a plan to raise the ceiling to over $16 trillion might have had him throwing jelly beans at everyone in sight.
Today’s debt meeting is at 3:45 at the White House. Will Biden once again be frustrated to the point of blowing out plugs like an ungrounded power strip in a downpour? We’ll see.
LET THEM EAT
CAKE PEAS!!! In situations such as this the government can choose who and what they pay or do not pay. If Obama halts the SSI checks it is solely because he is using the as a political tool. Of course I am sure that he will make sure that his ‘court’ of chefs, personal assistants, etc. get paid and his vacations and trips on Air Force One are paid for along with things like the National Endowment for the Arts and crap like that….Obama: If We Don’t Get a Deal, I Can’t Guarantee We’ll Be Sending Out Social Security Checks on August 3rd
I haven’t seen the full interview, but I’m just guessing that Pelley aggressively followed up with, “Mmm hmm…”
Regardless of what happens with the debt ceiling deal, if Social Security checks don’t get sent out next month, it will be the decision of the Obama administration to not put Social Security toward the top of their list of priorities (I thought it was the GOP who wanted to starve seniors and push them off cliffs).
Hopefully Social Security recipients are familiar with chess, because they’re now officially pawns in the president’s debt ceiling game.
according to the Daily Treasury Statements published by the U.S. Treasury Department, the ongoing flow of federal tax revenue since the Treasury declared that it had hit the debt limit on May 16 has been more than sufficient to cover the combined costs of federal spending on interest payments, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, the Veterans Affairs department and federal workers wages and insurance benefits (including wages and insurance benefits for military personnel).
“That’s fear mongering that’s not leadership, that’s sad and pathetic,” West told reporters. “There’s revenue that’s coming into this country the president needs to prioritize.”
Here’s the thing about entitlements: you spent yours. There’s literally no money in Medicare and Social Security. And why? Because the last two generations elected people who spent all of it on other programs, programs most constituents were more than happy about. Welfare. Spending on schools. Subsidies for an infinite number of pet programs. Bridges to nowhere. Ad nauseum. News flash. Now the money’s gone.
Why does the government think it can operate in an alternate reality? This is like a lesson you’d teach to a four year old. Now Bobby, you can spend your dollar on that toy car. But if you spend it now you can’t get the stuffed bear you wanted. There’s a whole army of financial advisors whose jobs are making sure you save enough money for retirement. Why? Because if you spend it all now, you won’t have it when you get old, idiot!
Attention liberals: you can’t have your cake and eat it too. If you spend your money on a Cowboy Art Festival, you won’t have the money to spend on your retirement. If you eat all your jellybeans now, you can’t eat them later.
Washington’s chronic overspending is just like a junkie’s addiction to drugs. Unless the cycle of addiction is broken, our economic and unemployment situation will continue to suffer. Washington is out of time. To avoid hitting rock bottom, Washington must cut spending today. To spread this message, Washington Could Learn a Lot has created this video.
Same woman who recently said Republicans “want to literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws.”
It is pretty clear now that Geithner only floated the 14th Amendment option as a lame attempt to provide Obama with more leverage at the negotiating table. But the idea, as Tribe clearly lays out in his op-ed, was always preposterous. Still, the episode does demonstrate how fast Turbo Tax Tim is willing to play with the facts surrounding the debt limit debate. Republicans would be wise to take nothing Geithner says at face value.
The President repeats that both parties must abandon their sacred cows in budget negotiations. Republicans, he argues, will have to agree to tax increases as part of a deficit reduction package. Republicans are being characterized as intransigent and extreme for refusing to do so.
What, then, should we conclude about the President’s unwillingness to consider reductions to the trillion dollars of health spending increases enacted in last year’s health laws?
EAT YOUR PEAS AND QUIT COMPLAINING! Arrogance on steroids out of the the head of the Obama administrations’ version of I.G. Farben-the General Electric company:
- Hypocrisy Meter Explodes: After Shedding 36K Jobs, Obama Adviser Immelt Tells Businesses to Start Hiring
Now as Obama’s unemployment rate threatens to sink his presidency, here comes Jeffrey Immelt to lecture business owners.
“The people who are part of the business sector, the people in this room, have got to stop complaining about government and get some action underway,” he told the group. “There’s no excuse today for lack of leadership. The truth is we all need to be part of the solution.”
As if “complaining about the government” is distracting business owners from the hiring or growing their companies that they’d otherwise be doing. Good lord…
“We all need to be part of the solution.” This from a guy who’s in bed every day with part of the problem. What a tool.
It goes on:
Immelt said he is committed to working with Obama on other moves that can help hiring, and that he expects to have proposals by the end of the year that should help to create up to 1 million jobs.
If this were the card game “bullshit” this is the part where we’d all yell “bullshit!”
It’s bad enough that the administration screeches out the same hideous noise daily and expects us to consider it music, but it’s even worse when a “representative” of the business community proudly serves as the bullhorn to promote abject failure.
Update: Since Immelt took over GE in 2001, the company has shed 36,000 jobs in the US — 25,000 of which re-appeared in other countries. Keep on lecturing US businesses on hiring more workers, Jeffrey.
Yesterday I addressed this issue in Here’s Why Small Business Isn’t Hiring, and Won’t be Hiring; Part II covers three other three systemic issues: 1. The real estate bubble completely mispriced/overvalued commercial real estate; 2. Financing is cheap to global Corporate America and costly to nonexistent to startups and expanding small businesses; 3. Crony capitalism doesn’t like competition; it seeks monopoly or a shadow cartel, imposed and maintained by the regulatory agencies of the Central State; 4. Overlapping regulation designed to suppress competition, benign neglect/hostility from government bureaucracies obsessed with self-preservation and lack of financing make it impossible to scale up a success business in the real world.
The low job growth in the U.S. isn’t a “soft patch,” it’s a sea of quicksand. In a nutshell, here’s the situation: 2/3 or more of all job growth comes from small businesses starting up and expanding; only a third or less of new jobs come from Corporate America or government expansion. As recent reports have shown, Corporate America has been on a hiring spree–overseas. From the point of view of globalized Corporate America, why hire anyone in a slow-growth market like the U.S.? It makes sense to hire new employees in fast-growing markets where the corporation is reaping its growth and most of its profits. As for government hiring: the game of expansion based on explosively rising debt or Federal stimulus spending is over. To live within their means, local government and related agencies will have to shed jobs, as labor accounts for 80% of government expenses. That leaves any future expansion of jobs up to small business. But small business isn’t hiring, and won’t be hiring, for these structural reasons…
Teh Stupid is strong in this one. HHS Secretary Sebelius: ObamaCare’s Penalty on Small Businesses a “Great Incentive” for Growth
Barack Obama says he doesn’t want to “relitigat[e] the past,” but what he should avoid is litigating the present. CNS News presents this clip of Obama’s press conference yesterday, in which Obama insisted that his stimulus package worked to save and create jobs, and that the proof of this can be found in, er … layoffs. No, really
There was nothing to smile about in today’s May JOLTS release from the BLS. Those expecting a pick up in job openings (traditionally the key requirement for an sustained increase in NFP) will have to wait some more, after the May number came at 3.0 million, the same as April. This is modestly better than the all time low of 2.1 million in July 2009, but is a far cry from the 4.4 million when the Depression started. And while there was no good news in Job Openings, there was some bad news in Total Separations which increased by over 200K sequentially from 3.833 MM to 4.059 MM. And for the first time since late 2010, the separations rates (defined to include voluntary quits, involuntary layoffs and discharges) rose to 3.1%, the same as the hires rate. Should the separations rate (especially if driven by involuntary departures) surpass the hires rate it will likely portend another period of NFP weakness ahead.
What is most surprising is that contrary to conventional wisdom, the voluntary quits level among government workers increased from 38% to 41% of total, while the layoffs and discharges level dropped from 44% to 38%, which means that government workers were not “let go” – they left voluntarily. This throws a bit of a wrench in generic interpretations of the surge in the government component of the unemployment rate. What is worse is that the quits rate in the Private employment stayed flat at 50%, while the layoff and discharges rate increased from 42% to 44%. Ironically, it is Private workers who are getting fired more, while it is government workers who are quitting voluntarily.
They are now getting the Hope and Change™ they voted for… Spin This: Cisco To Fire 10,000
A year after the outgoing secretary of the treasury top ticked the economy and ushered in QE 2 with his abysmal NYT op-ed “Welcome to the Recovery” it is only appropriate that we get news that Cisco is preparing to fire 10,000, or 14% of its entire workforce, over and above the number of people that the company said was going to be let go in May.
America is in an advanced state of decay. The number of “outcasts” is going to multiply as more Americans lose their jobs and their homes. Millions more Americans will be sleeping in their cars, in tent cities or on the streets before this is all over.
The U.S. economy is never going to get back to “normal”. What we are living through now is the “new normal” and it is rip-roaring prosperity compared to what is coming.
This could get interesting.
Apparently Congressional Dems flunked civics 101, Congress can’t overrule the Supreme Court.
How the mighty have fallen….While China is preparing to go to the Moon and Mars NASA drops everything related to space exploration in order to focus on ‘Muslim outreach and Global Warmening’ and our Astronauts have to hitch a ride with the Russians to get to the ISS: Space Political Action Alerts
Briefly, to summarize, the top line of the NASA budget has been cut back to pre-2008 levels (no shock, except to those living in denial), but the real problem is where the cuts are, and aren’t. The Webb Telescope was canceled, which was probably necessary given how out of control it was, but Commercial Crew and space technologies were severely chopped back as well, putting off further the day that we will no longer be reliant on the Russians for ISS, and that we can start moving humans beyond LEO. Instead, the Senate Launch System and Orion-by-another-name earmarks were actually increased, though there is still insufficient funds to build them in any timely manner, and no missions described or funded for them.
So…like everything that happens, the question is: who is going to benefit from the closing of NASA?
Every single person who has stock in Richard Branson’s trips to space, and that new mega company will own all the new technological patents. No longer will any government be able to claim the patents or inventions, but you can bet that all the politicians will have generous stocks in the new private companies. It’s all about the money.
So, tell me…Tom Hanks…why do you love Obama again? How many shares are you in for? It’s one thing for the malls to close down..but when NASA goes, you can bet, we don’t have too many days left. To me, it’s the darkest of days. Our national pride…has been shut down like a cheap carnival ride.
It’s disgusting. Not one word from ANY politician. That alone should tell you what’s coming. The silence is almost..like a deep black hole.
In the US, the government now requires all citizens to have a passport in order to pass the border, even when driving into Mexico or Canada. Obtaining a passport, however, is neither free nor guaranteed. You must apply, pay an ever-increasing fee, and wait for weeks to be approved and receive it. Naturally, the privacy statement on the application also acknowledges that the responses can be shared with other departments in the government, including Homeland Security. If this proposal passes, then US citizens will have a nearly insurmountable hurdle to obtain a passport and be able to leave the country at will. Even if it doesn’t pass, it’s a clear demonstration of what the people who run the country are thinking. Have you reached your breaking point yet, comrades? Let me know what you think.
The alarming rate of violence has led to more than just deaths. Mexico now has the second highest kidnapping rate in the world. It is three times higher than Colombia’s rate at its height of violence in the ‘80s and ‘90s.
The violence on our border is in need of resolution. However, amnesty is not the answer and would only make matters worse. The escalating violence, ad hoc border security, and spotty immigration enforcement demands a more comprehensive and robust strategy for combating human smuggling, violence, and the huge numbers of illegal aliens. This would move the United States in a direction that stems the tide of dangerous illegal migration.
H.L. Mencken quipped that the New Deal divided America into “those who work for a living and those who vote for a living.” The explosion in the number of food-stamp recipients tilts the political playing field in favor of big government. The more people who become government dependents, the more likely that democracy will become a conspiracy against self-reliance.
This radical group worked closely with the Obama camp during the election but, the community organizing group was not open about the relationship. The photo below was scrubbed from the ACORN website before the election:
One of Barack Obama’s first big “community organizer” jobs involved ACORN in 1992. He worked along side ACORN before he became an elected official. Obama also trained ACORN employees. He represented ACORN in court. Obama worked with and protested with ACORN. His campaign donated $800,000 to ACORN in 2008 for voter registration efforts.
And, ACORN even canvassed for Obama in 2008.
In 2009 Obama promoted a top ACORN operative, Patrick Gaspard, who’s oranization was fined $775,000 for election violations, to a top post in the White House. Gespard is helping shape domestic policy today.
Obama’s ACORN group was banned from receiving federal funds in September after the group was busted on tape promoting the child sex slave trade.
It’s not the first damning video of Obama lying about his deep ties with ACORN via their sister association the SEIU. SEIU = ACORN and visa versa. Back in October I had this: Video of Obama in 2008: “we are going to paint the nation purple with SEIU”
Koch’s comments are an early headache for Assemblyman David Weprin, the Democratic candidate handpicked to replace Weiner, who resigned in disgrace amid a sexting scandal.
As expected, Weprin yesterday received the endorsement of the union-backed *Working Families Party. He got the backing of the Independence Party over the weekend.
Democrat compassion in action.
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s former legislative director is suing the Democratic congresswoman, claiming she made “humiliating” comments about her vision disability while refusing to do anything to accommodate her.
At one point, the lawsuit claims, the congresswoman told her: “I don’t care anything about your disability.”
The lawsuit, filed last month in District of Columbia federal court, seeks unspecified damages in the form of “back and front pay,” as well as punitive damages. Former aide Mona Floyd claims Jackson Lee’s treatment of her amounted to “unlawful discrimination” and contributed to her resignation last fall.

Like her husband, Michelle Obama likes to lecture America about their eating habits. But, that doesn’t mean she listens to her own advice.
There is something very very wrong with Obama’s eating habits, dammit.
And when I say eating habits, I don’t mean what he eats, but how he eats…(I’m not interested in dealing with the hypocrisy issue of Obama’s never-ending junk-food binge in the face of his wife’s “healthy eating” campaign. I’ll leave that to others.) It’s his disturbing table manners that I can no longer ignore.
I’ve seen one too many picture of him eating like it was his last meal – hunched over the food, tearing into it like he’s a half starved hyena, or an orc tearing into manflesh.
I understand that he has a reputation for being an effete metrosexual, but you don’t offset that by going after chow with the unbridled fury and savagery of Attila the Hun.
For those that watch the reality show Survivor you may recall an incident from one season where a guy named Johnny Fairplay concocted a story about his grandmother dying to help him move on in the competition. Tell me this story from Byron York about Obama’s characterization of his mothers fight with a health insurance company doesn’t smack of the same ploy.
Gunwalker/Fast & Furious/Castaway
No wonder his spokesweenie refuses to say when Comrade Obama knew about the scheme to help Mexican drug cartels smuggle American guns, apparently so as to generate bad press for the Second Amendment. Here’s Deputy Attorney General David Ogden announcing way back on March 24, 2009 that the “President has directed us” in launching a comprehensive plan including Project Gunrunner, another name for Fast & Furious
House oversight committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican, and Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican, ripped Attorney General Eric Holder again in another Monday letter.
In this new letter, Issa and Grassley name 12 senior Justice Department political officials they believe may have been involved in the decision which allowed guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. They asked Holder to provide all records relating to communications between those 12 individuals regarding Operation Fast and Furious.
Obama administration officials Issa and Grassley named in their letter were:
- Former Deputy Attorney General David Ogden
- Deputy Attorney General James Cole
- Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer
- Deputy Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Blanco
- Deputy Assistant Attorney General Jason Weinstein
- Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Keeney
- Associate Deputy Attorney General Matt Axelrod
- Former Associate Deputy Attorney General Ed Siskel
- Gary Grindler in the Office of the Attorney General
- Brad Smith, in the office of the Deputy Attorney General
- Kevin Carwile, section chief of the Capital Case Unit
- Joseph Cooley, in the Criminal Fraud Section
Americans must know: How many more Fast and Furious programs are there out there, and why is the Obama Administration responsible for thousands, or perhaps tens of thousands of more guns being shipped south of the border to criminal gangs waging civil wars?
Make no mistake: Our federal law enforcement agencies are responsible for what can only be described as the blatant support of narco-terrorism, and there is little doubt that this program originated and was authorized with the full knowledge of the highest levels of the executive branch, including cabinet-level officials and the White House itself.
This is worse than Watergate and Iran-Contra combined. Our administration is supplying terrorists with weapons as they seek to overthrow our neighbor and ally.
There is no pit in a prison deep enough for those involved.
Here’s what we know: Through Operation Fast and Furious, and Operation Castaway, the Obama administration has been arming drug cartels with AK 47s and other high powered weapons. The drug gangs have in turn been wreaking havoc all along the border – we’ve been hearing alarming tales of death and destruction for the past two years: Stories that include daytime shootings on busy streets, massacres inside bars, grisly mutilations and beheadings.
Enter Hamas and Hezbollah who have been coordinating with the drug cartels in what some have taken to calling Mexghanistan.
Ann Barnhardt has developed the horrifying thought further:
There have been numerous, and I mean NUMEROUS, Muslim plots to wage Mumbai-style attacks against churches and synagogues that have been foiled and thwarted in the U.S. within the last several years. By “Mumbai-style” I mean Muslims walking into churches heavily armed with AK-47s and open-firing on the congregation. This is what they did in Mumbai, India, except that they focused on stations, hospitals, hotels and other public areas. In Mumbai, there were ten discrete attack locations carried out simultaneously. 164 people were killed with 308 wounded. Churches and synagogues have people much more tightly packed than the hotels, hospitals and offices targeted in Mumbai.
A few weeks ago, the “American Al Qaeda”, Adam Gadahn, released a video calling and urging Muslims in the U.S. to carry out attacks against “their religion and sacred places”.
Finally, we have the fact of Central and South American Marxists embracing and actively allying themselves with muslim states, led by Hugo Chavez’ strong alliance with Iran. Did you know that Iran has TROOPS stationed in Venezuela, and has promised to arm Chavez, or at least park a nuclear device in Venezuela as soon as possible?
So, the Obama-Clinton criminal machine has been sending thousands – and probably tens of thousands – of AK-platform weapons not only into the hands of the narco-terror gangs in Mexico and Central America, but also into the hands of their Muslim allies who have been and will continue to plot Mumbai-style attacks against the U.S.
It was inevitable.
Some of the estimated 2,000 firearms that federal law enforcement allowed to slip into the hands of Mexico’s violent drug cartels are showing up in gun crimes in U.S. cities.
KNXV-TV in Phoenix, AZ, conducted an investigation regarding weapons the federal government “walked” to drug cartels, and can confirm that those weapons are turning up at crime scenes inside the United States — some scenes just blocks from each other.
They have documentation proving that “Gunwalker” firearms are turning up in Arizona gun crimes, and that some of the firearms in question may not have ever left the United States at all.
The Justice Department’s “Operation Fast and Furious” supplied more than 2,000 military-grade weapons — many of them purchased with taxpayer dollars by government informants — to the Mexican drug cartels. Among the weapons purchased for the cartels by the American people: Barrett .50-caliber sniper rifles, AK-47 assault rifles, and FN assault pistols. Put simply, Eric Holder, probably under the direction of President Obama, was building a case for more gun control laws by shipping military-grade weapons to the cartels.
“This Obama Justice Department reminds me of nothing so much as the Nixon Justice Department,” Hume said on Fox News Sunday. “You have the scent of high-level knowledge of serious wrongdoing and you have the smell of cover-up and I think the stench of cover-up on this gun-running operation is very strong indeed.”
In the wake of swelling outrage over the Obama administration’s fatally botched Fast and Furious straw gun purchase racket, the DOJ is punishing the very whistleblowers who protested the scheme in the first place.
This is a head fake.
Instead of exercising more control over lawless bureaucrats within its own agencies, the Obama administration is tightening its grip over law-abiding gun shops

The FBI estimates that as much as half of the priest cases were exaggerations or fraud. That means that there may have been as many as two hundred times as much abuse by teachers than priests in the same time period.
When the full story of the “Stimulus” package is written — trillions of dollars wasted since January 2009 — you can be sure it will be rife with tales of waste, fraud and criminality. Oh, yeah. And race-baiting. The kind Jeremiah Wright is so famous for.
If I told you that your tax dollars (130,000 of them) went to buying a “diversity” manual that asserts the government and other institutions create advantages that “channel wealth and power to white people” and calls on educators to “take action for social justice,” what would you do? And if I told you that such a manual was required staff reading in Omaha, NE schools, what would you say?
Don’t believe me? Read on to learn about “The Cultural Proficiency Journey: Moving Beyond Ethical Barriers Toward Profound School Change.”
The book is a manifesto on cultural awareness. But what it calls for, some might say, is quite counter-cultural. The Omaha World-Herald details some of the work’s jaw-dropping statements.
For example, the book includes a quiz that determines a teacher’s cultural proficiency.
“Only those educators who acknowledge the existence of white privilege in America, that ‘white’ is a culture in America and that race ‘is a definer for social and economic status’ can reach proficiency,” the Herald notes. And those who don’t? They’re asked what they will do “to align yourself with the values expressed.”
Hence the problem with the American Federation of Teachers union: it gives educators zero incentive to be more effective because they can’t be fired for it. I still believe the vast majority of teachers are fantastic, but it’s undeniable there is a sizable number who abuse their job security and we have their union to thank for it.

He scuffles with flight attendants, turns on an electronic device, screws around in the bathroom, and has to be restrained by other crew and passengers.

Time to go out and get some more light bulbs I guess….FYI-Lava Lamps don’t work with those crappy CFL’s. Lightbulb bill likely headed for defeat in House
This used to be something we all agreed on. Beginning with President Reagan in 1987, Congress and the White House have enacted federal energy efficiency standards five times – each time with bipartisan support. But now it’s being used to score cheap political points for those on the far right. This week, the House will be voting on the “BULB Act” a bill to repeal the bipartisan energy efficiency standards that have helped create jobs here in America and save energy and money for families. This is as common sense as it gets and it’s hard to believe that we’re fighting over it. I urge my colleagues to join me in opposing this bill.
Of course, Mike forgets to mention all the incandescent bulb manufacturing plants that closed in America, thanks to the legislation. And, as China geared up to build CFLs, they built many more coal-fired energy plants, so, any supposed globull warming benefits that come from restricting the sale of certain incandescent bulbs is lost from those plants, and, face it, that’s what the “not a ban” was all about.
But, hey, Mike, if I want to, from your point of view, waste money, that’s my business, and, quite frankly, the last person to be talking about saving money should be a member of the Democrat Party.
They won’t stop until only left-wing, politically correct Christians are able to run businesses, participate in global charities, and engage online.
This is their idea of “tolerance.”
Is it yours?
If income and wealth is going to be equalized, why would anyone save or invest? Savings and investment just adds to wealth, and wealth is anti-social under a social justice regime of equal wealth for all. Indeed, the only rational strategy for everyone under such a regime is to consume all income and not save or invest anything. For anyone who saves and invests more than others will see that savings and investment expropriated, and anyone who saves and invests less than others will be rewarded with a grant from the government to make their savings equal to all others.
The only difference between the prosperity of modern industrial society and the subsistence living of cavemen is savings and investment. All the tools and equipment that enable us to produce more than what was enjoyed during caveman days come from investment, made possible by savings.

Walter Russell Mead: An Unhappy Ending To The Drug War?
Any change in drug policy is likely to disappoint the Stoner Lobby; the decriminalization of drugs is almost certain to lead to tougher non-criminal sanctions against their use. Marijuana may well get a pass, but other drugs will not. If criminal sanctions disappear, drug tests are likely to proliferate. You won’t be able to work in health care or any of the professions if you test positive for most drugs; likely you won’t be able to enroll in many colleges, receive government benefits (including financial aid) or teach.
President Obama has recently been criticized by former VP Al Gore in his rambling Rolling Stone article. But apparently that’s been “unproductive” and some damage control is in order. McKibben has the perfect solution in order to lobby the President to kill the Keystone Pipeline: “We asked people who had Obama buttons in their closets to bring them and wear them — many of us still remember the shivers that ran down our spines when he said, on the eve of his nomination, that with his election “the rise of the oceans would begin to slow and the planet begin to heal.“
“If you want to live in a Republican state with very conservative right-wing laws, then there’s a place called Arizona,” Brown spokesman Gil Duran said.
Now, I don’t know about you, but saying that millions of residents should just leave the state if they don’t like California’s liberal laws, dysfunctional finances and horrendous business climate doesn’t really disprove the point that the Sacramento elite really and truly do not care about the Republican-leaning parts of the state or the people in them. California’s unemployment rate is 11.7% compared to 9.1% for the nation as a whole (given California’s size, I’d guess without doing the math that means the rest of the country may be as much as a full three points below CA). Even the NY Times says California’s budget crisis may be the worst in the nation, with a $26.6 billion budget deficit comprising nearly a third of the state’s budget. California owes $2,362 in debt per resident of the state, and pays a 20% premium to borrow money compared to better-run states; its A- credit rating from Standard & Poor’s is the worst in the nation. A recent budget deal only barely convinced S&P to avoid an immediate further downgrade, and S&P is still concerned that the deal doesn’t solve the state’s long-term “backlog of budget obligations accumulated during the past decade”.
Gov. Brown’s office may think that’s a record to get cocky about, but maybe it’s time California showed a little humility about the failures of its political culture and business climate, and learned a few things from its more conservative neighbors – and maybe even from some of its own citizens.
Here in Hamilton County, where one in seven people lives beneath the poverty line and budget cuts have left gaps in the schools and sheriffs department, residents are bracing for more belt-tightening: rollback of a property-tax break promised as part of a 1996 plan to entice voters to pay for two new stadiums.
The tax hit is just the latest in a string of unforeseen consequences from what has turned into one of the worst professional sports deals ever struck by a local government—soaking up unprecedented tax dollars and county resources while returning little economic benefit.
With a combined estimated cost of $540 million, the stadiums—one for football’s Bengals, the other for baseball’s Reds—were touted by the teams and county officials as a way to generate cash and jobs. The Bengals, who had threatened to relocate if they didn’t secure a new home, drove negotiations. And it is that deal—the more lucrative arrangement struck with the teams—that has fanned the county’s current struggles.

A poster child for what happens when you let Democrats and Unions run a place for over a century…Great News: Big Dig Boondoggle Could Cost Us Another $200 Million
When they estimate a tab for what this fiasco will cost us, go right ahead and double or triple it, since by the time they’re done it’ll cost way more. This is the legacy of Ted Kennedy and Tip O’Neill.
The light fixture fiasco underscores a culture of secrecy among the engineers who maintain the $22 billion Big Dig, one of the world’s most costly – and problem-plagued – highway projects. After years of scandals, bad press, and lawsuits alleging shoddy work, engineers freely admit they don’t like to write things down, prompting one transportation consultant to compare the atmosphere to President Nixon’s White House.
The consultant, C. David Taugher, wrote in a March internal report, “How deep does the culture go where nobody says anything, even when they know they should?’’
Again, where are the feds in this case? Could you imagine such a costly project in a red state becoming one of the most massive boondoggles in history and nobody being held accountable?
Talk about a culture of corruption.
But Horace Small, executive director the Union of Minority Neighborhoods, an advocacy group in Jamaica Plain, countered, “I understand that the black community has been decimated by double-digit unemployment, but we should not settle for just any jobs.”
So clowns like Small, and on a larger scale, the clown Mayor Mumbles Menino would prefer people to not have jobs because of some stupid ideological opposition to Wal-Mart. Seriously, what is their problem? They’d rather pay more for merchandise? They’d prefer residents to just sit around and collect welfare?
Apparently so. There’s no other logical conclusion.
In Dudley Square, Roxbury resident Monique Henderson said a Wal-Mart would be a boost to the neighborhood. “It would be nice to have it here,” she said. “There are lots of people looking for jobs so that would help out.”
Democrats pretend they want to “create” jobs, and then an employer comes along with plenty of available jobs and they block them at every opportunity. They’re rather have people dependent on the government, but they just don’t want to say so publicly. Their actions speak volumes.
Hawaii already had the highest state income tax rate (11% on income of $200,000 single/$400,00 married). The U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis reported last month that Hawaii’s GDP 1.2% growth rate was in the bottom quintile among the 50 states (average 2.6% GDP growth rate).
Reinforcing its role as trashy leftist tabloid, the Times responded with a story that repeatedly pronounced the Fox news report as “discredited” — but without explaining “why” or “how” the report was discredited. The Fox News report is “discredited” because the Los Angeles Times just … said so.
The Times’ story then doubles down on stupid by uncritically reporting “claims” that GOP candidate Craig Huey is “suppressing women’s votes.” Shocking claim, but how is Huey suppressing the women’s vote? By focusing the election on the economy instead of abortion! Yes, you read that correctly. Making the economy the issue in a Congressional election is sexist and suppresses the women’s vote, because The Los Angeles Times just … said so.
Continuing its feverish descent in Alinksyesque drivel, the Times explains that the GOP candidate is “out of step” with the “moderate” voters in the district because he opposes same sex marriage and favors abortion limitations. So, a “moderate” voter is one who supports gay marriage, opposes any limits on abortion, and never, ever is concerned with the economy, because The Los Angeles Times just … said so.
But the cameras have since become more than just a crime-fighting tool. They have also become a tool exploited by defense lawyers who often seek footage from the cameras to exonerate falsely accused clients. The footage is not monitored in real time, but can be reviewed upon request by attorneys, police and prosecutors.
Nearly one-third of 109 requests for footage made last year came from defense attorneys, according to data supplied by The City in response to a public records request by The San Francisco Examiner.
Criminal defendants have been cleared or had charges reduced when footage proved their alibis or disproved police or witnesses’ accounts of incidents.
What the hell did she expect? A Parade? A weepy interview with BaaBaa WaaWaa or Oprah followed by a multimillion dollar book deal? ‘She doesn’t get how much people hate her’: Casey Anthony considering disguises and a fake name after release
Even more regrettable is that every time a Casey Anthony-type trial captures the public’s attention, someone gets the idea that we need a new law in response to the completely unrepresentative case, a law that presumably would have prevented that particularly travesty from happening. The problem, of course, is that the new law — usually poorly written and passed in a fit of hysteria — is too late to apply to the case it was designed for. But it does then apply to everyone else.

But, sadly, if you don’t agree with Obama’s spend your way to hell plan – the media says you’re a rightwing “hardliner.”
The nutritionistas cited do not defend her as nutritionalists, but rather as liberal Democrats.
From the Tufts University nutrionalista: “[This is an] unfortunate invasion of privacy for Mrs. Obama. She has kept her weight constant and engages in regular physical activity. An occasional indulgence is fine. For many people, that is what helps them keep on track most of the time.”
Ah yea, we’ve invaded her space. Who do we think we are? The TSA?
From the Yale nutrionista: “She ordered it, but we don’t know how much she ate. Perhaps she did what is often advised under such circumstances; eat half, and wrap up the rest.”
Spoken like a true liberal: How do you know she ate the whole thing?
And the Yalie again: “I invite only those whose diets are housed with no walls of glass to hurl a burger in the first lady’s direction on the basis of this one lunch.”
Once again liberals cannot take what they routinely dish out.
More do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do governance.
And ABC News defends it. How dare you little people invade her privacy!
The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart said the following about the above cover of this week’s issue of Newsweek:
She can’t possibly be taken seriously as a presidential contender dressed like that, especially since this is the second time she has graced Newsweek in a less-than-presidential pose.
The first time Palin was on the cover, Newsweek swiped the photo from Runner’s World — so Palin didn’t pose for that photo, they just took it from another source.
But I’m willing to bet that Capehart didn’t say the following people “can’t possibly be taken seriously as a presidential contender dressed like that”
Let’s not forget how this all happened – government intervention at the behest of liberals. I have posted on this many times before, but here is the approximate sequence of events:
- The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977 is passed under Carter with pressure from groups like ACORN. It prohibits the practice of redlining – giving fewer loans to poor areas.
- Sometime in the early 1990s home loan data was required to collect racial statistical data, used later to make the false case that minorities were being discriminated against in the loan market.
- In 1995, Bill Clinton gave the CRA teeth. By the force of government, subprime loans were authorized specifically so that lower income minorities could buy homes without meeting the usual requirements.
- Late in Clinton’s second term he signed the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 that unleashed the GSEs of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac began buying subprime notes giving rise to entities like Countrywide that specialized in the practice. Fannie and Freddie became bloated with bad loans, went bankrupt leading to the mortgage meltdown of 2008. The rest, as they say, is history.
An aside to the story is that Bush tried to reform Fannie and Freddie in 2002 to prevent exactly what was to happen in 2008, but was blocked by Congress in 2003. Of course, the MSM ignores that inconvenient little nugget from history. My guess is that Obama knows exactly why the housing market melted down, but is instead pushing the Wall Street – eeeeevil! meme because he knows it’s an easy story for the MSM to run with and spoon-feed to a gullible public that will readily eat it up.
Gawker has never met a low it wouldn’t sink below.
He is now one of “The President’s Men”. The problem for him and every other member of the MSM is that Obama makes Nixon look like a paragon of virtue.…Carl Bernstein, disingenuous
Nice to see that Olbermann hasn’t lost his touch over at Current TV. He’s still as unintentionally hilarious as ever.
This time, his panties are in a bunch because Obama is feigning raising the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67, phased in over the next 500 years or whatever. Which I guess is tantamount to feeding old people “dog food” or something. Poor sap doesn’t even recognize a hollow political gesture when he sees it, designed to make Obama look as if he’s “bending over backwards” to compromise with Republicans.
Instead, Olbermann takes Obama at face value and unloads. See if you can get through this without busting a gut. I know I couldn’t.
Happy World Population Day! You could solemnly mark the occasion by reading commentary and watching videos from the U.N. Population Fund and then writing a letter to the editor calling for improved global access to voluntary family planning.
Or you could watch comedian Doug Stanhope’s lewd, crude, misanthropic take on the issue. Did I mention it’s NSFW?
The video is truly vile, but, is exactly what you would expect from a Warmist, who, as usual, wants Everyone Else to reduce their population, but won’t lead the way.
Al Gore’s money-making schemes hardest hit.
Hint: It’s a bunch of bullshit.
You knew it was only a matter of time after the Rolling Stone criticism of Obama on climate, but Al Gore is back and in a big way. Some are calling it an Inconvenient Truth 2.0 with a brand new slide show connecting extreme weather with global warming. The new “Climate Reality Project” moniker replaces Gore’s previous Alliance for Climate Protection racket. UK Guardian eco-journalist Suzanne Goldenberg gives away the store with this line: “The campaign represents a modest comeback for Gore who has reduced his public profile on climate action in the past few years – probably out of consideration for the political consequences to his fellow Democrat Barack Obama.”
So Al Gore’s decision to lower his profile was to avoid forcing Obama to make politically unpopular decisions? I think there are additional reasons related to his personal life.
“(Children) feel incredibly despondent and helpless in the face of all this negative information,” she said. “To put all of this before our children … is one of the most appalling things we can do to (them).
Child psychologist Kimberley O’Brien also said the language of climate change should be “toned down”.
“(Educators) should stick to the facts,” she said.
“They should be aware that kids do have nightmares.”
The Sock Drawer:
On June 7, 2011, Earth-orbiting satellites detected a flash of X-rays coming from the western edge of the solar disk. Registering only “M” (for medium) on the Richter scale of solar flares, the blast at first appeared to be a run-of-the-mill eruption–that is, until researchers looked at the movies.
“We’d never seen anything like it,” says Alex Young, a solar physicist at the Goddard Space Flight Center. “Half of the sun appeared to be blowing itself to bits.”
In the next couple of days the zoo hoped to make life a little bit more exciting for the lonely bird.
“You can compare him in his enclosure to someone in hospital in terms of boredom,” Ms Baker said.
The zoo was now working on cooling down its saltwater pool enough to give Happy Feet a playground in his preferred temperature.
The move to the pool house would not only mean more exercise and variety for the penguin but might give the public a chance to get a glimpse of the adventurous bird.
So far his fans can watch him eating, sleeping and walking through an online live-stream on TV3′s homepage.
“If he would swim in the saltwater pool the public will be able to watch,” Ms Baker said.
There are three different categories: light, medium and difficult. The height the bunny must jump raises in each category: 25, 35 and 40 centimetres.
“At home all my bunnies live in a barn and they are happy to have some change once a week when they train. They are very excited when they see that carrier box and they know they’re off,” explained Sara Gerstner, owner of the winning rabbit called Snoopy.
Whether the bunnies hop to victory or flop in defeat, it sure is cute.
