Another Silent Crisis Looming – Infectious Diseases in Affected Areas in Tohoku

In the same news program, I learned that:

-More than 20,000 temporary houses have been built, but only about 45% of them are occupied, because once evacuees move to these temporary houses, all the food supply would be cut off and they would have to pay for utilities even though many of them are still unemployed.

-In one city in Miyagi Prefecture, the number of drunk driving has doubled, since alcoholism has increased due to mental depression

-Number of volunteer workers during the 3 month period since the earthquake occurred is only one third of those in Kobe Earthquake in 1995; the affected areas this time are far wider, and much farther and much harder to travel to from the big cities.

According the Ministry of Defense website, about 69,200 members of Self-Defense Forces are in action as of June 10, which have shrunk from the maximum number of more than 100,000. But it seems that more is needed, more efforts from government are needed, to remove those endless piles of rubble.

Otherwise, having survived the devastating earthquake and tsunami, people in the affected areas in Tohoku might lose their precious lives to infectious diseases which is totally avoidable.

This is another imminent crisis. I hope the world and the international health community will pay attention to this issue.

The Fed’s $600 Billion Stealth Bailout Of Foreign Banks Continues At The Expense Of The Domestic Economy, Or Explaining Where All The QE2 Money Went

In summary, instead of doing everything in its power to stimulate reserve, and thus cash, accumulation at domestic (US) banks which would in turn encourage lending to US borrowers, the Fed has been conducting yet another stealthy foreign bank rescue operation, which rerouted $600 billion in capital from potential borrowers to insolvent foreign financial institutions in the past 7 months. QE2 was nothing more (or less) than another European bank rescue operation!

IMF struck by cyber attack

Word of the cyber attack was first reported Saturday by the New York Times, which cited unnamed sources who described the situation as a “large and sophisticated cyberattack” that “had occurred over the last several months.”

Bloomberg later on Saturday reported that IMF officials, also speaking under the condition of anonymity, said the organization “was attacked by hackers believed to be connected to a foreign government, resulting in the loss of emails and other documents.”

The Unwind Begins: Eurogroup President Juncker Redirects From A Broke Europe By Throwing US And Japan Under The Insolvency Bus: “The Debt Level Of The USA Is Disastrous”

The first rule of media (especially when dealing with an idiot audience that has a 7 second attention span): when all else fails, redirect. That’s precisely what Eurogroup president, and certified, sanctimonious, pompous liar, Jean-Claude Juncker just did today, as it is becoming increasingly clear that nobody in Europe has any clue just what the Greek bailout #2 will look like now that the ECB and Germany are at polar opposites on how to proceed, the ECB thinks it is a rating agency and can dictate what an Event of Default is, and German bankers are willing to cede to private involvement in the bailout, but in a way that is voluntary. The problem is that these three are very much mutually exclusive. So what does Juncker go ahead and do – he redirects to highlighting the problems of the US: “The debt level of the USA is disastrous,” Mr. Juncker said. “The real problem is that no one can explain well why the euro zone is in the epicenter of a global financial challenge at a moment, at which the fundamental indicators of the euro zone are substantially better than those of the U.S. or Japanese economy.” That may well be the defining moment: by now everyone knows that the global economy is a massive pyramid scheme. Yet to this point, those in control have at least kept their mouths shut. However, when in order to explain one’s insolvency, those at the very top of the control pyramid have no other choice than to point out just how broke others are (when in reality it is all one big, interconnected, “globalized” and truly insolvent Ponzi), then the unwind has begin.

Ominous new White House warning on Syria calls the situation a ‘humanitarian crisis’; sound familiar?

Six Days in June

In June of 1967, almost a quarter-million Israeli troops, of which only 50,000 were regulars, the rest reservists faced off against a half-million Arab soldiers from Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq. Israel prepared by collecting vital intelligence regarding enemy positions, and battle plans, and by launching a devastating air attack against the air forces of the combatants, which resulted in Israel owning the airspace over the battlefield, a force multiplier for their smaller forces against the Arabs. At one point in the desperate struggle, Israel used training jets to strafe enemy runways, to keep them out of the fight.

They fought on three fronts, Gaza and the Sinai, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights. There are many good online references you can check out online to learn more about it. What stands out is, like 1948, and 1956, Israel knew they ultimately stood alone against their enemies. And it was up to them to fight back and win, or be annihilated. And by “annihilated”, I mean completely Holocausted off the face of the planet.

Surrounded by their enemies, they taught their enemies “don’t f**k with us”

I admire this sentiment.

Arab world a relic of history

Democracy is not merely an election, and a representative party with majority support holding power.

For democracy to work, the prerequisite is a culture in which the people recognizes the “other” — irrespective of how the “other” is defined in terms of ethnicity or religion or gender — as equal, and their interests and aspirations as legitimate.

This recognition of the “other” is missing in Arab culture. The “other” is merely tolerated in a subordinate status and since the “other” in the modern context is unwilling to be consigned indefinitely into an inferior position, the result is the repeated cycle of rebellion and repression in Arab history.

Thatcher Foundation Responds to the ‘Palin Was Snubbed’ Report Saying, “The Guardian Has Minimal Credibility”

The Guardian, of course, is not a newspaper at all sympathetic to Lady Thatcher (or to Mrs. Palin), so reports on this topic, from that source, have minimal credibility. If nothing else, would Lady Thatcher have ever described a prominent US conservative politician as ‘nuts’, or approved an ‘ally’ who used the description? I would hope that question answers itself.

Of course, sadly, Lady Thatcher’s health is not good these days and such considerations naturally dominate her schedule. That much is true. Someone once said that if you plaster together the true and the false you thereby manufacture the plausible, but in this case I don’t think even that much has been achieved by the Guardian.

Blessed are the Spongers? That’s not what St Paul said, Archbishop

Why is it so bad to draw a line between the deserving and the undeserving poor? I have searched the Sermon on the Mount for the words ‘Blessed are the Spongers’ and I cannot find them – or anything remotely like them.

So why does the Archbishop of Canterbury speak as if it was obvious that we should treat people who can work, but won’t, in the same way as we treat those who are truly in need?

Speaking of ‘spongers’…102 foreign criminals we can’t deport… because of THEIR ‘right to a family life’

Theresa May, had ordered the North London-based violent drug dealer – who can only be named as AP because judges kept his identity a secret – sent back to Trinidad.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, he has a five-year-old daughter, from whom he provided no care nor any maintenance payments, but he still won his fight against deportation thanks to his ‘right to a family life’.

His is just the latest case of Article Eight being used to halt the deportation process. Others include:

A Sri Lankan robber allowed to remain here because he has a girlfriend in Britain.

An Iraqi killer who, judges ruled, should not be sent back because he would pose a risk to people in his home country.

A Bolivian man who was able to stay partly because he owned a pet cat.

The Great Canadian Mystery: Who Suffers 71 Percent of Religious Hate Crimes and Who Is Doing It?

Because the report is vague about just who might be attacking Jews and why these numbers have tended to rise. Skin-heads? Neo-Nazis? Russian peasant pogroms? Crusaders? The Klu Klux Klan? Peronists? Anti-Dreyfusards?

Because if we don’t know who did it, then how can the situation be improved? Was it Anglicans? Bahai? Catholics? Dunkers? Episcopalians (oh, they’re the same thing as Anglicans), Franciscan monks? Greek Orthodox? Hawaiian traditionalists? Idolotors? Jacobites? Kansans? Lutherans?

Ok, I give up. No sense going any further in the alphabet, is there?

Meanwhile, in Jerusalem, Jews are stopped from prayer at the Western Wall by rock-throwing, um, non-skinheads. And Yale University has shut down the Yale Institute for the Study of Antisemitism, despite the program’s holding a large number of events and a major conference. Seems they didn’t focus enough on all antisemitism coming from neo-Nazi skinheads?

So just keep repeating to yourself: The main problem of the Western world is Islam-o-phobia.

A must read from Fjordman: When Treason Becomes The Norm: Why The Proposition Nation, Not Islam, Is Our Primary Enemy

Treason in a nation-state meant disloyalty to the heritage, freedom and continued existence of the distinct nation or ethnic group who traditionally inhabited that country’s territory. Treason in an ideological state or Idea Nation means disloyalty to the ideals upheld by the state. The practical consequences of these different outlooks are huge. Judged according to the former definition, it is no exaggeration to say that the governments of every single member-state of the European Union, and indeed all Western countries, commit treason every single day.

Is that statement too harsh? Considering the fact that the white majority population that has shaped these countries and created successful societies there is being purposefully displaced by mass immigration sanctioned by the ruling elites, the answer to that question is no. Yet none of these governments have so far been charged with treason. Why not? Because the courts, as well as the laws and legal definitions upheld by the court system, are controlled by Globalist groups who adhere to the Idea Nation and uphold the latter definition of treason.

Europeans have fought, and paid with large amounts of blood, for over 1300 years to keep Islam out of the Continent. The European Union is now actively promoting stronger cultural, economic, legal and demographic ties between Europe and the Islamic world and is clamping down on any opposition to this policy among native Europeans as “racism and Islamophobia.”

Out of control: Arizona wildfire now the worst in state’s history as blaze spreads to New Mexico

The devastating wildfire sweeping through Arizona has become the worst ever in the state’s history.

The Wallow Fire has burned more than 600 square miles, 408,887 acres, and is now six per cent contained.

At least 10,000 people have been displaced and more than 30 homes have been destroyed so far. Authorities said full containment is nowhere in sight, and power lines that supply much of West Texas and Southern New Mexico with electricity are also in jeopardy.

Narcissistic rage, envy and revenge at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

During Netanyahu’s statement, Obama’s body language was imperious and withdrawn. According to an unverified report, once Netanyahu had departed, Obama flew into a rage over the perceived insult:

Shortly after the photo-op meeting and “working lunch” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the one that saw President Obama openly chastised by the Prime Minister for Obama’s earlier public comments regarding wanting to see Israel return to its 1967 borders, the president verbally “went off” on Richard Daley in the private study area that adjoins the Oval Office. President Obama’s verbal attack was clearly heard by numerous staff up and down the West Wing hallways.

The essence of the president’s rage and embarrassment can best be summed up with him yelling out very loudly, “What the f*** was that!?” That phrase was apparently repeated a number of times in the span of about five minutes, a time period in which Obama’s voice became “louder and louder” and culminating in Obama exclaiming, “Never again! Do you understand me? Never again!” Any response by Bill Daley back to the president, if given, was not overheard.

Crash of 1987

I don’t want to suggest this market is like the 1987 market, but last week there were some similar things that reminded me of the weeks before October 19. The market never seemed to sustain a bid. There are always sellers. The volatility in markets is high-electronic trading has changed the nature of liquidity. Markets are less liquid moment to moment, even though in sum they do more volume. If you are a person with a large position, good luck getting out.

In 1987, we were a lot more confident about the direction of the economy. We had come off a bad recession, and the Reagan economic agenda was beginning to flex its muscles. Innovation was beginning to happen all over.

Today, people are much more pessimistic. Obama’s agenda has created The Great Uncertainty. No one really has a good sense of what is going to happen. The is not a lot of hope and dynamic energy present in the economic environment.

I responded that neither I nor nemo had heard anything specific, but nemo did note there is a significant amount of pessimism out there.

The Federal Reserve’s New Agenda

The Thing under the boat. as Gerard Vanderleun put it…..Walter Russell Mead: When Government Jumps the Shark

When that happens, what crashes is not just one program.  A whole system, a whole social contract falls apart. And if the crashes in these peripheral European economies shook the EU and the world economy, a full scale meltdown in the United States would likely be a shock as profound as the 1929 meltdown.  It wouldn’t just be an economic disaster for the United States; it would likely be a historical disaster leading to crisis, upheaval and war around the world.

That fifth and final stage — which one hopes we will never see — takes the transformation one fateful step farther.  No longer just a great white shark, the progressive ideal would become a great destroyer, a mythical figure like the Great White Whale in Moby Dick.  To pursue the whale is madness; Captain Ahab, despite warnings and omens, persists on his insane pursuit of the uncatchable ideal, the untamable beast.  Disaster and bankruptcy loom on every side; still the captain continues inexorably on his course.  In the end, when something cannot go on for ever, it comes to a stop.  The whale turns on the ship and smashes it to pieces in the sea.

Mark Steyn: Obama’s Road to Nowhere

This is Main Street, Obamaville: All bumps, no road. But shimmering on the distant horizon, beyond the shuttered diner and the foreclosed homes, is a state-of-the-art electric car, the new Fiat Mirage, that should be wheeling into town in a half-decade or so provided it can find somewhere to charge. “We will be able to look back and tell our children,” declared King Barack the Modest of his own candidacy in 2008, “this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow.” Great news for the oceans! Meanwhile, back on dry land, a quarter of American mortgages are “underwater” — that’s to say, the home “owners” owe more than the joint is worth. In Harry Reid’s Nevada, it’s 63 percent. Perhaps Obama’s Aquatic Bodies Water-Level Regulatory Authority, no doubt headed by Jamie Gorelick or Franklin Raines or some other Democrat worthy, could have its jurisdiction extended to the Nevada desert.

“Hope”? “Change”? These are the good times. What “change” are you “hoping” for in Obama’s second term? The loss of America’s triple-A credit-rating? The end of the dollar as global currency? Or just a slight upward tick in the same-old-same-old multi-trillion dollar binge-spending?

On what?

Obama Recovery

The ObamaMedia is beside itself right now .. it can’t seem to understand why or how Barack Obama’s economic policies aren’t translating into jobs and growth.  This must be the case because they seem to be caught quite off-guard with all of these “unexpected” jobs figures.  Unwilling to blame their savior, Barack Obama, they are now trying to come up with other ways to justify this lousy economy.

Dude, Where’s My Freedom?

All forms of “gun control,” “travel control,” or “health control” are just examples of a broader “freedom control.” And they are all doomed to fail because at root they are just different ways of government violating our individual rights rather than protecting them.

In Memorial Day and D-Day commemorations around the country, America recently honored the many brave men and women who fought abroad for our liberty. Let us not ignobly surrender that hard-won liberty for politicians’ sham promises of “security” here at home. Otherwise, we may all wake up one day soon wondering, “Dude, where’s my freedom?”

Unexpectedly! (Obamacare edition)

Ah, history. Here I turn to our own Steve Hayward, who (with Erik Peterson) took a useful look nearly twenty years ago at “The Medicare monster.” What can we learn from the history of Medicare? “The two primary lessons of Medicare are the chronic problem of woefully underestimating program costs and the impossibility of genuine cost control. A closer look at Medicare shows why these two problems are certain to plague a government-administered universal health-care plan.” As we are apparently fated to discover. It will all come as a great shock, completely unexpected.

Did Michigan, George Washington University Lose Their Tax Exempt Status?

Nonprofits around the country have found both alarming and reassuring news as they have reviewed the list of 275,000 groups whose tax exemptions the IRS revoked on Wednesday. The IRS took action against charities that, it says, failed to file required paperwork for three consecutive years.

But the list is misleading in places, with some well-established groups listed that have, in fact, filed their paperwork. On the list were the names of some of the biggest and most well-established colleges in the United States, George Washington University and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. …

Get ready for electricity prices to “necessarily skyrocket”

The Hidden Cost of Ethanol Subsidies

This year could be a bad year; much of the corn in the eastern cornbelt is late getting into the ground, and from west Texas into Nebraska we’ve got the worst drought in 40 years. Parts of western Kansas have gotten no more than a quarter-inch of rain since the beginning of the year. This means the corn stocks could slip still lower.

Why is this a problem? Much like the price of oil, the price of grain worldwide is based on the dollar. In the case of oil, it’s because we’re the world currency and the largest user of oil. In the case of corn and indeed all grains, it’s because we’re the world’s largest producer and exporter.

Think of the carryover stocks as the strategic oil reserve — it’s there in case we have a bad year. Should that happen we still have grain to sell, and we still basically control the price.

Now imagine we have to start importing grain. Suddenly Brazil or Argentina is setting the price, not us. Once you become a net importer of grain, you cease to be a world player in agriculture.

We’re already dependent on countries who don’t like us for our fuel. Does it strike anyone as a good idea to be dependent on them for food as well?

The latest “high-speed” (45 mph) rail project

Oh, one other thing. Cox reports that there is already luxury bus service, with plugs for laptops and wireless Internet, from Iowa City to Chicago. It’s part of a larger trend for private companies to offer convenient and inexpensive bus service. A one-way ticket on the bus costs $18, compared to a likely train fare of more than $50. And the bus takes only three hours and 50 minutes to get from Iowa City to Chicago. That’s one hour and 10 minutes faster than the “high-speed” train.

So let’s get this straight. The progressive, modern, “win the future” high-speed rail, which would cost the taxpayers of Iowa millions, would be slower than existing bus service and would cost more. Why ever would Iowa want to spend one dime on this project?

Who is the face of what’s wrong with feminism?

Answer: Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the head of the Democratic Party’s congressional election campaign for 2012.

She is dimmer than an LED.

She has the moral compass of a polar bear. (I beg to disagree, Polar Bears have a moral compass, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz does not.)

*snip*

If feminism means the rejection of all things conventional, including societal norms that have civilized man, then perhaps it is time for society to reject feminism — and the feminists, beginning with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Their amorality show they, too, are unfit for public office.

Weiner Admits to Hot Tweets With 17 Year-Old

New potential Twitter-related troubles arose for Rep. Anthony Weiner on Friday, after Delaware police reportedly spoke with a 17-year-old high school girl about “direct online communications” she’s had with the disgraced congressman.

Weiner confirmed the communications late in the day, but denied that anything inappropriate took place.

Is there any humiliation Rep. Anthony Weiner won’t inflict on himself before he resigns the office that he has so spectacularly disgraced?

Guess not.

Union bosses come first for Obama

In another development, the National Labor Relations Board, which Obama has packed with union activists, has continued its assault on workers. It was bad enough last month when the board’s general counsel, Lafe Solomon, sued Boeing for building a nonunion facility with 1,000 workers in South Carolina — a move that even a former Democratic chairman of the National Labor Relations Board called “unprecedented.” But this past week, when three South Carolina Boeing workers sought to intervene in the suit, Solomon opposed them, arguing that they had “no cognizable interest” in whether Boeing will actually be able to employ them. That’s the same position taken by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. The union wants NLRB to force Boeing to shut down its new production line in South Carolina and instead build a new facility in Washington state. So what if 1,000 or more South Carolinians who were offered jobs in the new plant Boeing just finished.

As outrageous as these actions are, none of them should be surprising, because Obama vowed during the campaign to do the bidding of unions. “I know how much more we can accomplish as partners in an Obama administration,” he told the Service Employees International Union as a candidate. “Just imagine what we could do together. Imagine having a president whose life work was your work.” Sadly, the work of the Obama-Big Labor alliance is harmful to actual American workers.

Not exactly what the left was hoping to see.

Commenter “elaine” has a point

Can you imagine a Reaganesque reformer as president in the internet age? When that President can pretty safely ignore the bitter mewling of the MSM, because citizens have other ways of getting the truth? I think that’s the real reason they’re scared witless over a Palin presidency; because it’ll mean reform of everything they’ve worked for and built, without any concern for the MSM tearing down that reform.

“Woo Hoo! Feingold at Walkerville tonight, maybe my other honey Jon Erpenbach will be there too!”

When Obama came along, guess who liberals started having sex dreams about?… The New York Times’s Judith Warner reported, “Many women—not too surprisingly—were dreaming about sex with the president.”… The Obamas, Warner wrote, were “a beacon of hope, inspiration and ‘demigodlikeness.’ ”…

NBC’s Matt Lauer noted that “people” have called Obama “ ‘The Savior,’ ‘The Messiah,’ ‘The Messenger of Change.’ ” Try to imagine conservatives coming up with such honorifics for Dwight Eisenhower. Being rational individuals, conservatives don’t turn their political leaders into religious icons. Liberals, by contrast, having all the primitive behaviors of a mob, idolize politicians.

Trivia Tidbit of the Day: Part 932 — Texas Is America’s Shining City On A Hill.

It bears repeating. Texas entrepreneurs and businesses created more new jobs over the past decade than those in all other states combined, and if you take the 31 job-losing states into account as well, it actually looks even more lopsided in favor of Texas.

No wonder the buzz about drafting Texas Governor Rick Perry to run against Barack Obama just continues to grow.

Perry for president? There’s a case to be made.

All Perry has to do is point out that what’s holding the U.S. economy back is the job-killing, business-strangling polices of the Obama administration and compare them to his own record in Texas, where low taxes and tort reform have enticed job-producing businesses to relocate.

And tell the American people that he’s ready to put the pedal to the metal and get the rest of the nation out of the ditch as well.

Michele Bachmann Doesn’t Seem To Understand How Ed Rollins Is Hurting Her

As long as Rollins is an adviser to Bachmann’s campaign, that is a huge problem.  If Bachmann doesn’t realize it, then she doesn’t have her ear to the ground, or her eyes on the comment sections of conservative blogs.

Bachmann needs to wake up to and deal with the reality of the damage Ed Rollins is doing to her campaign.  Pretty soon it will be too late to.

New York’s Irrational Income Taxation of Nonresidents

On days when telecommuting nonresidents like me work at our out-of-state homes, New York takes the irrational position that we are really working in the Empire State, though in fact we are outside New York’s borders. By the legal fiction known as the “convenience of the employer” doctrine, New York assesses income taxes for nonresident telecommuters’ work-at-home days – even though we do not set foot in New York on those out-of-state days. New York’s convenience of the employer doctrine typically results in double taxation on the days nonresident telecommuters work at their out-of-state homes.

When I challenged New York’s convenience of the employer rule as unconstitutional, I found myself in a prolonged and public controversy over New York’s irrational taxation of nonresident telecommuters. I ultimately lost my case in New York’s highest court.

The men who killed New York

What was once the most exciting city on the planet has turned into the world capital of health-obsessed control-freakery.

Paternalistic journalism

The Chicago Tribune cannot trust its readers.

Why if the readers found out the gangs were black people, why who knows what might happen. Someone might get hurt.

So the editor of the Chicago Tribune decided that race is not a motivation. Move along.

If gangs of white kids beat up a black man, you would have a hate crime.

Don’t take my word for it.

Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass wrote: “I explained to him that when it comes to race and crime, the Chicago media deal with the comfortable. We’re comfortable dealing with black-on-black crime and white-on-white crime. The race cards are moot. And we’re experienced in dealing with black victims of white racists. We’re so well-trained that we’ll rush out and grab the usual suspects, including race-card-playing clergy, and ask them to put it in context. But when black teens go after whites and Asians in a plush neighborhood, it creates headaches, in the media and in politics.”

The Oil Under Los Angeles

California’s Green Jihad

Ideas matter, particularly when colored by religious fanaticism, wreaking havoc even in the most favored of places. Take, for instance, Iran, a country blessed with a rich heritage and enormous physical and human resources, but which, thanks to its theocratic regime, is largely an economic basket case and rogue state.

Then there’s California, rich in everything from oil and food to international trade and technology, but still skimming along the bottom of the national economy. The state’s unemployment rate is now worse than Michigan’s and ahead only of neighboring Nevada.  Among the nation’s 20 largest metropolitan regions, four of the six with the highest unemployment numbers are located in the Golden State: Riverside, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco. In a recent Forbes survey, California was home to six of the ten regions where the economy is poised to get worse.

One would think, given these gory details, California officials would be focused on reversing the state’s performance. But here, as in Iran, officialdom focuses more on theology than on actuality.   Of course, California’s religion rests not on conventional divinity but on a secular environmental faith that nevertheless exhibits the intrusive and unbending character of radical religion.

Irresponsible Gun Owner of the Day: Detective Bret Starnes

Are you also exposing your private parts to strangers on Facebook?

We all know that companies in the past were very eager exploiting holes in FB’s architecture to scrape personal information.

Even after Facebook tightened up its privacy settings, it seems clear that people are blithely sharing way too much of their lives with people they haven’t fully vetted. And it seems likely that our conversations are being spied on, recorded and analyzed, either by folks from China or by corporate sleuths hiding behind seductive masks to track and influence conversations about their clients, customers and competitors.

Congresstwerp Andy Weiner put way too much online.

Don’t laugh. You may be sharing way too much with strangers too.

An American Descent Into Hell

Do you recognize America any more? I don’t… This isn’t the country I grew up in and it is not the country our founders envisioned by any means. What has happened to Americans? Progressivism, collectivism, socialism and Marxism have taken hold with deep roots. Faith and values have been ditched for the ‘me’ syndrome and violence. It won’t be long before the fabric of American society starts to rip asunder under the debilitating weight of entitlement. Normal life will spin wildly into violence and abhorrent decay unless we take hold and right our ship quickly. Even then we won’t be able to avoid a great deal of fallout. The question is will we fall all the way off the cliff to the rocks or break our landing in the bushes?

9 most shocking and incriminating revelations from the Palin emails that will most certainly finally KILL HER OFF

Other former vice-presidential candidates or potential presidential candidates whose entire email archive from their time in office has been released so the press (or just people who read the WaPo online) can comb through looking for something interesting

We all know the real reason for the Palin email panty-sniffing extravaganza. I’d just like to know what excuse, if any, the trash-pickers are using for treating this email archive like it’s the f**king Pentagon Papers. I haven’t seen anything online.

Operation Get Sarah

“Where were all the crowd-sourcing champions at the New York Times and Washington Post when Democrats dumped the thousand-plus pages of the Obamacare and stimulus laws on the American people?” Malkin asked in an email to TheDC. “How about issuing an open call for collective public analysis of the nearly 1,400 recipients of HHS health care waivers? Or perhaps a project to pursue FOIA requests and reader information-gathering to probe Project Gunrunner?”

Malkin said calls for reader help with investigations that are critical of anyone on the left “ain’t gonna happen, of course,” at the Post or the Times. “So perhaps these left-wing organs should simply abandon all pretenses and form a progressive consortium with the Huffington Post and Daily Kos to officially unveil Operation Get Sarah,” Malkin said. “Then they can submit their joint application for the Pulitzer Prize in public-service journalism while mocking Palin for her thin skin.”

Now: Can you imagine if Fox News asked viewers to join them in a similar endeavor? Every journalism pooh-bah across the country would be caviling about the un-credentialed barbarians at the media gate.

LA Times Won’t Release Obama-Khalidi Tape But Posts 24,000 Sarah Palin Emails

In 2008 The LA Times withheld a video that contained footage of Barack Obama celebrating with a group of Palestinians who were openly hostile towards Israel. Barack Obama reportedly even gave a toast to a former PLO operative, Rashid Khalidi, at this celebration. This was something the LA Times hid from the American public before the election. The media refused to release the video.

I predicted the media’s approach to the Palin e-mails almost 3 years ago

I posted the following to my old blog way back when the media’s PalinHate was only in Week 3. At the time, it seemed like satire. How young we were then.

Sarah Palin email frenzy backfires on her media antagonists

To an extent, the emails remind Americans of the person they saw take the state at the Republican National Convention in Minnesota nearly three years ago – refreshing, plain-speaking, open and uncomplicated.

Since then, her image has hardened into one of a brittle, even paranoid, politician who seethes with resentment, feels aggrieved and entitled and is intent on pursuing celebrity even at the expense of her family.

Mrs Palin as a person has become so remote that it is hard for to assess how much, if any, of that widely-held caricature has a basis in truth. The email release could mark the end of a chapter of what conservatives have termed “Palin Derangement Syndrome”. Her enemies in the media appear to have overplayed their hand.

Expressing a sentiment that will resonate with many, Greta Van Susteren, a Fox News anchor who is close to Mrs Palin, argued that she had been subjected to “a media colonoscopy” by news organisations on “a mission to destroy”.

Weinergate: Barbara Walters Loses Reporter Cred

To my way of thinking, the saddest part of this story is Barbara Walters devolution; this once-respected newswoman nears the end of her distinguished career by playing as ghastly a non-sequitur as I’ve ever heard, saying (in essence) if Sarah Palin ‘can ride around on her bus,’ Weiner Can Stay in Congress.

When Joy Behar, of all people has to defend Sarah Palin from your bizarrely gratuitous swipe, you know you’ve let your hate lead you too far into Whackyland.

Listen (if you can stand the noise of this show) to Walters talking about how she “knows” Weiner and “knows” his wife, who of course works for Hillary Clinton, whom she also knows.

This is the problem with the mainstream media in a nutshell. They “know” the people they’re supposed to be covering, and they consider themselves “friends” of those people. And it has ruined them. As you listen to Walters, all you see is passionate advocacy; not a newswoman concerned with the truth of a story, but a partisan doing everything she can to divert attention from a story she doesn’t like — even to comparing a private citizen on a bus to a sitting congressman having some sort of cyber-engagement in his office — and championing her “friend.”

New York Times columnists hate government transparency? Must be a Democrat in the White House.

Joe Nocera writes in today’s New York Times:

It’s official: Elizabeth Warren will return to the torture chamber known as the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on July 14. Earlier this week, Darrell Issa, the California Republican who is chairman of the committee, tweeted the news. Apparently, Democrats aren’t the only ones who use Twitter to harass women.

In other words, Congress’ constitutional imperative to oversee an unaccountable executive branch official, appointed through subterfuge so as to avoid Senate confirmation, amounts to “harassment.” At least, it does when Republicans control Congress.

The abstract of a new study from Science Magazine entitled “The Unusual Nature of Recent Snowpack Declines in the North American Cordillera”, Gregory Pederson et al., 9 June 2011 (paywalled, all data available here, figures here, overview here) opens by saying:

In western North America snowpack has declined in recent decades, and further losses are projected through the 21st century.

The abstract goes on to describe their findings:

Over the past millennium, late-20th century snowpack reductions are almost unprecedented in magnitude across the northern Rocky Mountains, and in their north-south synchrony across the cordillera.

Tips for Not Appearing Crazy on the Internet

Here’s another pretty basic one: no lolcats speak. Write actual English sentences using real words and proper grammar. Capitalize the first word of each sentence. Use punctuation. there is no reason ur comment 2 a blog or column shud look lik ur a n00b at texting. You’re not writing these things from a old cellphone with just a number pad that lacks auto-complete; there is a big keyboard in front of you.

You save like 0.1 seconds writing “u” instead of “you” at the cost of making yourself look like an absolute idiot. Is there any reason you’re trying to shave off this time? Are there wild dogs bearing down on you as you write why we need another look at Obama’s birth certificate? If so, run from the wild dogs and write your comment later. Your whole sentence shouldn’t scream, “I’m a useless idiot with nothing important to say.” You should never write like that unless you actually are a cat expressing your desire for a cheeseburger.
