Outbreak in Europe blamed on ‘super-toxic’ strain
Scientists on Thursday blamed Europe’s worst recorded food-poisoning outbreak on a “super-toxic” strain of E. coli bacteria that may be brand new.
But while suspicion has fallen on raw tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce as the source of the germ, researchers have been unable to pinpoint the food responsible for the frightening illness, which has killed at least 18 people, sickened more than 1,600 and spread to least 10 European countries.
An alarmingly large number of victims — about 500 — have developed kidney complications that can be deadly.
Chinese and German scientists analyzed the DNA of the E. coli bacteria and determined that the outbreak was caused by “an entirely new, super-toxic” strain that contains several antibiotic-resistant genes, according to a statement from the Shenzhen, China-based laboratory BGI. It said the strain appeared to be a combination of two types of E. coli.
“This is a unique strain that has never been isolated from patients before,” Hilde Kruse, a food safety expert at the World Health Organization, told The Associated Press. The new strain has “various characteristics that make it more virulent and toxin-producing” than the many E. coli strains people naturally carry in their intestines.
With Obama’s Help, OECD Wants A World Tax Organization
Bolstered by support from the Obama Administration, the OECD now is taking its campaign to the next level. At its Global Tax Forum in Bermuda, which ends later today, the bureaucrats unveiled a new scheme that effectively would result in the creation of something akin to a World Tax Organization.
The vehicle for this effort is a Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters. This may sound dry and technical, but the OECD wants all nations to participate in this pact, which has existed for a couple of decades but was radically expanded last year to give high-tax governments sweeping new powers to impose bad tax law on income generated in low-tax jurisdictions.
But the real smoking gun is that the OECD has put itself in charge of the “co-ordinating body” that will have enormous powers to interpret the agreement, modify the pact, and resolve disputes – thus giving itself the ability to serve as judge, jury, and executioner.
Obama and the Coming World Tax Organization
It would be nice to have leadership that would defend American interests, rather than selling us out to a global socialist power structure. But the resplendent Barack Hussein Obama isn’t so parochial as to be just the president of the USA. But the lid blew in Egypt, as well as in other Arab nations, because people rose up on their own against repression, injustice, and widespread poverty. That is precisely what George W. Bush warned would come to pass. And whatever one felt at the time about the possibilities and dangers of the revolutions now engulfing much of the Arab world, American policy should be to use all the levers at our disposal, which are limited but not insignificant, to help guide the revolution in a direction that advances American interests and ideals. That is, I think, what prudence dictates.

All to open one mine and put 2,000 miners to work.
To make matters worse, the ore won’t be processed in the U.S., because our domestic copper smelting capacity has been cut by about 60 percent in the past 20 years. More jobs lost largely on the altar of environmental regulation.
This is just one of myriad examples of how our nation’s obsession with litigation and environmental regulation has turned us into a place where employers cannot afford to create jobs. It is cheaper and more profitable to do it elsewhere.

How long do you reckon you could borrow $7 to get $1 of “growth” in your finances? Let’s say you need $3,000 a month to pay all the household bills. No problem, just go borrow $21,000 and your household economy will “grow” by $3,000. If this isn’t the height of fiscal nonsense, then what is?

Yet, as today came and the first vote to raise the debt ceiling without adding any spending cuts to the bill was called, 29 of those very Democrats that signed the letter voted against a clean raise of the debt ceiling. Another five voted “present” essentially ducking the vote.
So, in just one month these Democrats went from claiming that it was a financial emergency to vote “yes” on a clean raising of the debt ceiling to vote “no” on just such a bill!
In fact, 82 Democrats voted with the Republicans to down a clean raise of the debt ceiling after months of of their party claiming that a clean raise is what was needed.
How exactly do you deal with a party that changes its mind every month or so?

Furthermore, eight of the 10 richest members of Congress are Democrats.
President Obama in 2009 may have set a record for income of a sitting president with earnings of $5.5 million in that year alone.
That does not include his $1.4 million Nobel Peace Prize award.
Indeed, the president has earned more than $1 million in each of the last four years.
In fact, since 2007, the president has earned more than $14 million, not including that Nobel Peace Prize.
So as they “Rally for the Really Rich,” let area liberals raise a toast to Obama and the two richest men in America — Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, both of whom were early Obama supporters.

Depending on how far the agency wishes to take it, this ruling could decimate a vast region in Texas, and, possibly, bring the United States to its knees too. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is currently saying that the oil industry is overstating the risks, but if there’s one thing we know about the bureaucratic mind, it’s that it will always go too far, especially when it’s doing so in the service of a Progressive agenda, with the agenda here being that Big Oil is eeeevviiilll.

Evading questions, however, is a strategy most often utilized by people with something to hide, and will only further pique the media’s interest. Weiner either has something to hide, or he has no idea how the media operates.
Now this is important, Make Believe Media, for the same reason Weiner keeps pushing the lie — if he was tweeting about hockey, it makes it sound like sex wasn’t on his mind.
But he wasn’t tweeting about hockey. He wasn’t tweeting at all, not publicly. He started with the “Tivo ate the hockey game, #WhoDoISue?” jazz after he sent out a suspicious package for all the world to see.
Is it so hard, at this late date, to understand the concept of “reverse chronological order”? That is, entries nearer to the top of a page were actually published more recently than those below?
Let me try to give you an analogy that will help you make sense of this baffling situation: You know all of your own blogs, headline feeds, and so forth? Yeah, they’re in reverse chronological order too.
I know this is confusing because it’s a case of “first appearing, last posted,” and I know it feels for your little brains like I’m talking about exotic time-travel technology here, but I assure you, that in a Twitter feed, just like in the headline feeds of the newspapers at your jobs (or should I say: “jobs”), the entries at the top of the list actually came after the later entries.
You have to read, for the chronological order you’re used to, from the bottom up.
