NOTE: There is so much going on in the world right now that my daily ‘fishing expeditions’ are taking a bit more then a day to complete. I am sorry for any inconvenience to you and I know I should really post daily but, as any good Penguin knows, when the fishing is really good you stay out until you are so full you can barely get back up on shore. 8D

Also today is the start of Hurricane season so I put up some of my Hurricane links up over in the blogroll under the heading of  “Weather and Hurricane”. I left some out because they are very technical and the majority of the info is covered on the other websites in a form that is more user friendly and readable.

Oil Is Now Leaking In Sea Near Fukushima

The operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) said the oil leaks were possibly from nearby oil tanks that may have been damaged in the March earthquake and tsunami, and it would set up oil fences to prevent the liquid from pouring into the Pacific Ocean.” Oh, but they only discovered this now? Odd how it took nearly 3 months for those oil tanks to rupture and start spilling into the water. So in other words, not only is Godzilla coming, he will be more greased up than the Situation.

Fukushima Debacle Risks Chernobyl ‘Dead Zone’ as Radiation in Soil Soars

500,000 Bq/kg of radioactive Cesium found 75 miles from Fukushima plant

High levels of strontium detected at Fukushima

The utility detected up to 480 becquerels of radioactive strontium 90 per kilogram of soil. That’s about 100 times higher than the maximum reading recorded in Fukushima Prefecture following atmospheric nuclear tests carried out by foreign countries during the Cold War era.

TEPCO reported detecting 2,800 becquerels of strontium 89 per kilogram of soil at the same location.

This is the second time since April that radioactive strontium has been found inside the plant compound.

Scotia Mocatta Loses 60% Of Its Physical Silver In One Month To “Reclassification”, Total Comex Registered Silver Now Under 30 Million Ounces

About a month ago we indicated that Comex depository Scotia Mocatta “lost” 25% of its Registered (aka Physical) silver after the vault encountered a “reporting reclassification” which saw 5,287,142 ounces of silver moved from Registered to Eligible status, dropping the vault’s true holdings from 11.8 million ounces to 6.5 million. Naturally, the response from the peanut gallery was that this was a tempest in a teacup and it was “temporary” and a-ha, any minute it would reverse, and all shall be well, everyone would live happily ever after, and the Comex would actually have silver available for delivery purposes. We decided to not hold our breath. Which after pulling today’s most recent Comex warehouse data appears to have been a prudent decision, because for the first time ever total registered silver has dropped below 30 million ounces, after experiencing a 5% overnight drop across the board, primarily driven by yet another 1,456,488 ounce “adjustment” of warehoused silver from Registered To Eligible at Scotia Mocatta. As of last night, total Scotia physical silver was now 4,740,447 ounces, a 24% drop overnight, and a massive 60% drop from the total which we captured on April 20. Still think it’s temporary?

Dollar And Yen Fall – Moody’s Warns Of Japan Downgrade & UN Warns of Risk Of “Collapse” Of Dollar

The euro climbed to a three-week high versus the dollar on speculation Germany and other European nations may pledge more funds to bankrupt Greece and favourable German economic data. This is more a reflection of dollar weakness rather than any great confidence in the euro. The euro at €1,068/oz remains under pressure versus gold and is less than 2% from record nominal highs at €1,088/oz. While the focus, has of late, been on the increasingly ‘unsingle’ single currency, news overnight shows how there are also substantial risks posed to the yen. Moody’s have warned that they may have to downgrade Japan and have warned of a “tipping point” which may lead to a government funding crisis for heavily indebted Japan. The United Nations warned on Wednesday of a possible crisis of confidence in, and even a “collapse” of, the U.S. dollar if its value against other currencies continued to decline. The UN’s mid-year review of the world economy did not get covered widely. The UN economic division said that a crisis of confidence in the dollar, stemming from the falling value of foreign dollar holdings, would imperil the global financial system. This trend, it said, had recently been driven in part by interest rate differentials between the U.S. and other major economies (see table above) and growing concern about the sustainability of the U.S. public debt, half of which is held by foreigners including the Chinese government.

Eurozone crisis risks ‘systemic’ fallout, says Draghi

Always remember that these are the people that the Smartest. President. Evah!™ Obama, the Democrats, the LLP’s and the MSM keep on telling us are Kumbayah singing moderate secularists. Speaking of, the MSM has gone awfully quiet on the situation in Egypt. I wonder why?

We are in the era of jihad. The era of jihad has come over us, and jihad in the path of Allah is a pleasure. It is a real pleasure. The companions (of the Prophet) used to compete to (perform jihad). The poverty that we’re in—is it not due to our abandonment of jihad? But if we could conduct one, two, or three jihadist operations every year, many people throughout the earth would become Muslims. And whoever rejected this da’wa, or stood in our way, we would fight against him and take him prisoner, and confiscate his wealth, his children, and his women—all of this means money.

Every mujahid who returned from jihad, his pockets would be full. He would return with 3 or 4 slaves, 3 or 4 women, and 3 or 4 children. Multiply each head by 300 dirhams, or 300 dinar, and you have a good amount of profit. If he were to go to the West and work on a commercial deal, he would not make that much money. Whenever things became difficult (financially), he could take the head (i.e. the prisoner) and sell it, and ease his (financial) crisis. He would sell it like groceries.

Even better, the cleric also says “there is no coercion in Islam.”

Obama May be Getting Tough with Gaddafi

Not coincidentally, the International Criminal Court last week issued international arrest warrants for Gaddafi, his sons, and his brother-in-law.  The U.S. and NATO now have explicit, internationally-recognized authorization to — as George W. Bush might say — “git ‘im.”  And a sheriff’s posse is assembling.

With the imminent appearance of a U.S. carrier strike force off the Libyan coast, the “or else” part of “leave or else” is about to arrive.

France’s nuclear supercarrier, the Charles de Gaulle, has been on station off Libya participating in combat operations for some time.  So has the Italian carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi.  Several non-capital NATO ships have been making their presence felt too.

What’s been lacking is tank-killing helicopters for close-in ground support.  But on May 17, the French helicopter carrier BPC Tonnerre deployed out of Toulon into the Med.  Also newly-arrived on station is the HMS Ocean, a British helicopter carrier.

And here, on cue, comes the spanking-new USS George H.W. Bush. CSG Two should be making passage through the Straits of Gibraltar as early as Wednesday.  They’re scheduledto leave Portsmouth, England, at 10:00 BST on Tuesday morning.

So, Moammar’s right: there’s a lot of “heat” headed his way.

The Moral Bankruptcy of International Organizations

Finally let’s just drop the pretense of these international organizations being for anything other than the interests of those that run them. That goes for the Olympics too. Want to reward Russia for their fine behavior in the international stage, including the invasion of Georgia and general meddling in all the states on their borders? Give them the winter Olympics, in a facility that isn’t even built (no bribery there, either).

Winning the Future™, Obama-style.”

Are You Better Off Now Than You Were Two Years Ago?

Obama’s arrogance is so great that when a citizen asked him how average Americans were supposed to make ends meet with gas prices so high, Obama simply “suggestedthat the gentleman consider getting rid of his gas-guzzling vehicle.”

We don’t even have to revisit Obama’s quasi-government takeovers of GM, Chrysler, and a myriad of banking institutions to understand why our national morale is low. It’s so low, in fact, that columnists and bloggers grasping for a suitable analogy now compare today’s political and social climate to the malaise we endured under Carter.

And if you think the comparison to the Carter years is a stretch, just consider the irony of one of the other questions Reagan asked as he looked into that camera in 1980:

Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the store than it was four years ago?

Well? Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the store than it was two years ago?

Reagan wanted the people listening to him to know that it was time to make a choice: that America faced a perilous future unless we changed course at that moment in time. And I dare say we will face an even more dire future now than we would have then, if we don’t determine to change our course in 2012.

WILL AMERICA SEE EUROPE-STYLE RIOTS? Newsweek sounds hopeful, but in America, unlike Europe, it’s usually the taxpayers who are behind the revolutions, not the parasites.

House Says NO To Unlimited Debt

The House held an important vote tonight. Major media outlets are calling it “symbolic,” but it’s far more important that they want to admit.

By a vote of 97-318, the House of Representatives rejected President Obama’s demand for an unconditional increase to our national debt ceiling. Every single Republican voted against the measure, along with 82 Democrats. Joining the Republicans were such luminaries as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and DNC chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

There’s a lot of talk about Rep. Anthony Weiner’s underwear these days, but tonight the entire Democrat Party was caught with its pants down. The party split roughly down the middle on this vote, and while the end result was not unexpected, it was still a powerful repudiation of the President’s clear desire to have unlimited debt and spending without conditions.

Austerity Works

The real lessons for the United States are clear. Those who run up debt in good times can borrow only so much more when a recession strikes. And heavily indebted governments postpone fiscal stabilization at their peril. If you wait to reform until the bond market calls time, you are—to use a technical term from economics—screwed.

The best option is, of course, to be Switzerland, a country strangely ignored by Krugman. The Swiss have run a prudent fiscal policy throughout the economic crisis. They have had a structural surplus in each of the past five years. Their net debt is actually lower today than it was in 2005. And guess what? In 2009 their economy suffered the smallest contraction in Europe, with unemployment today below 4 percent. As for sound money, the Swiss franc is up 95 percent against the dollar since 2000.

Too bad American presidents never visit Switzerland. But I guess they can’t afford to.

Oh and there is that other “thing.” According to the Washington Examiner, the 3-inch dunes sagebrush lizard could hinder drilling in West Texas, as it could be named a new endangered species. If put on the list in December, drillers fear the lizard’s new status would slow down or halt drilling in the area.

Based on his track record of preventing drilling in the guild and the canceling of shale drilling contracts in Utah, it will not be surprising if President Obama finds a way to stop this drilling also.

GM Channel Stuffing Hits New Record

That GM sales declined in May by 1.2% on expectations of a rise of 1.5% in May is not really surprising: as we have been saying for a nearly three months now, the Japanese earthquake, far from adding points to US GDP, is now impacting every aspect of the US and global economy (yes, Japan is and will be the global economic wildcard for a long, long time: should we get Shirikawa to agree to a $250 billion QE the dynamics of the global prisoner’s dilemma will change promptly). Furthermore, the bulk of these purchases are the government-funded equivalent of subprime home purchases from 2005-2006: take away government funding and the sales collapse would be historic. Yet what is surprising, and what continues to be the only important metric in the monthly GM sales report, is the monthly channel stuffing update, aka the “month-end dealer inventory.” We hope nobody will be surprised to find that it just hit another all time record of 584,000, 7k more than April and 177 more than a year ago. Although in reality, considering that GM car assembly should have been impacted by the Japanese earthquakes, one would have hoped for this inventory to decline. Which is the truly surprising part. In other words, In May, channel stuffing at GM went into overdrive.

Top Obama health aide cashes out after health ‘reform’

An Obama appointee who played a central role in crafting the 2010 health care bill has cashed out to a well-connected lobbying firm, where her first clients are two of the bill’s beneficiaries: abortion provider Planned Parenthood and a hospital chain.

Liz Engel was deputy assistant secretary for legislation at the Department of Health and Human Services. Today she is a managing director at the Glover Park Group in the health and wellness practice. Her story further highlights the coziness of this administration with the abortion industry, and also undermines President Obama’s portrayal of the health care bill as a broadside against special interests.

Don’t be too sure that a private company would never waste money so irresponsibly. Under Obamanomics, making a profit is no longer necessary or even desirable, so long as you have pull in Washington. The more incompetent the management, the bigger the bailout.

On Memorial Day Obama Honors Fallen Troops at Tomb of Unknown Solder For an Hour… Then Golfs For 4 Hours

The British media is doing the job the American MSM won’t do (probably because they are all stuck under Obama’s desk): Barack Obama’s decision to play golf on Memorial Day was disrespectful and hardly presidential

Does it matter if the president chooses to play golf on Memorial Day, and for the second time in his presidency (he did so as well in 2009)? I think it does, and it displays extraordinarily bad judgment, not only by Obama himself but also by his advisers. His chief of staff for example should have firmly cautioned against it. President Obama is not just any American but Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces. The United States is currently engaged in a major war in Afghanistan with over 100,000 troops on the ground, and more than 1,500 have already laid down their lives for their country.

The least the president can do on Memorial Day is spend the whole day with veterans and servicemen’s families while acknowledging their sacrifice. As Koffler points out above, President George W. Bush stopped playing golf out of respect for the families of Iraq War dead. This demonstrated not only good judgment but humility and respect for the men and women who keep America safe. It is little wonder that, as Gallup reveals in a new poll, US military personnel and veterans give Barack Obama lower marks for his job performance than members of the general public. The president’s actions smack of poor taste, as well a lack of empathy and support for the US military, hardly the kind of leadership the White House should be projecting at a time of war.

Europe Becomes Obama’s Re-Election Campaign ‘Prop’

Obama’s six-day trip to Europe — high on style but low on substance — was far more about creating photo opportunities than it was about strengthening the transatlantic relationship.

Obama the Weak

“This is what a leader looks like,” wrote Bryan Preston of Pajamas Media of Mr. Netanyahu’s “very impressive” speech to Congress. “Not a word of it will have to be ‘clarified’ or walked back in a day or two. It will not be ‘misunderstood,’ as President Obama claims his speech of last week has been. I have had many friends on the Republican side tell me ‘if only we had a candidate like that.’ “

Bibi Netanyahu can’t run for president of the United States. But he showed those who are running how to get the better of Mr. Obama: Talk straight. Talk substance. Go directly at him.

While Congress was applauding Mr. Netanyahu, Mr. Obama was showing us what leadership isn’t. On a visit intended more to advance his re-election campaign than the interests of the United States, Mr. Obama played Ping-Pong with British Prime Minister David Cameron, signed the wrong date in the distinguished visitors’ log at Westminster Abbey and botched a toast to the Queen.

Weaksauce. Someone call the WAAAAAHbulance for him because he can dish it out but can’t take it. Chutzpah! Obama Tells Republicans To Stop The “Demagoguery”…

Will Obama Sink the Democrats?

Every time you read another JourNOlist claiming the GOP is in trouble, just change the word “Republican” to “Democrat.” The left isn’t losing sleep about Republican losses. They can see the earth yawning open under their own feet, ready to swallow them up, just as the House Democrats were swallowed up in the midterms. Don’t think they aren’t worried about their poll numbers. Don’t think they aren’t scared about Tea Party Americans. Don’t think they can allow conservatives like you and me to exercise our free speech. They feel panicked, vulnerable, and incompetent. That’s where all the rage is coming from.

Historically, leftward lurches in America are always followed by conservative corrections. Woodrow Wilson was followed by Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover; FDR and Truman by Eisenhower; JFK was relatively conservative by leftist standards, but after LBJ swung hard left, Nixon and Ford succeeded him. Jimmy Carter led straight to Ronald Reagan. Bill Clinton was stymied by a powerful GOP Congress. And Obama…

We’ll find out soon. The SEIU has just pulled out their old Communist banners, and they are tearing off the mask. ACORN is back in business. George Soros is funding all the loudest leftist fronts. Marxists are suddenly sprouting all over the campuses, like an outbreak of ugly pimples. The left is out of the closet.

 Barack Obama’s amazingly consistent smile

Ladies and gentlemen, your President is a robot. Or a wax sculpture. Maybe a cardboard cutout. All I know is no human being has a photo smile this amazingly consistent.

On Wednesday, the Obamas hosted a reception at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, during which they stood for 130 photographs with visiting foreign dignitaries in town for the UN meeting. The President has exactly the same smile in every single shot.

#weinerquiddick:

So let’s get involved and work to get this mysterious criminal off our online streets. Until he is brought to justice, remember: You May Already Be a Weiner.

For MSM types who wish to start covering Weinergate accurately, or for readers just catching up, here’s a quick primer on the undisputed Weinergate facts.

I’m sensing… panic… desperation… an inability to talk his way out of this… increasing skepticism… I sense.. he’s really working on his wife to finally give that interview, which so far she’s refused to do, where she sits next to him and holds his hand as Diane Sawyer asks, in soft-focus, about “the normal problems people have in a marriage”…

Here’s a news flash for Weiner: this story ain’t going away.

In fact, the high school girl, porn star and other young ladies that Weiner followed (only around 90 people worldwide at the time he the hacker tweeted the undie shot) might have some interesting stories about other Weiner messages they could sell to The National Enquirer.

For big bucks.

Stranahan’s is not a bad test, but I have one of my own that runs slightly counter to it, if only superficially. My own interpretive key to these scandals is whether the politician has appeared in public with the demonstrative support of his wife. Weiner also fails my test. In another of Glenn’s Weinergate updates, the New York Daily News publishesa photograph of Weiner out for a walk, holding hands with his wife, Huma Abedin.

I don’t want to be rash, but that photograph is a dead giveaway. In terms of persevering in the face of the scandal, however, Weiner has something important going for him. He’s a Democrat.

The biggest problem for Weiner and his defenders on the left is not bloggers from the right. It’s the details of “#weinergate” can be understood by millions of ordinary people in 140 characters or less.

I wonder if Weiner the hacker ever sent raunchy photos to the female high-school student and the other young cuties he followed?

And, say, I wonder if legacy media is working on that angle? That’s a rhetorical question, Sparky. Of course they’re not. He’s a Democrat. Hell, he could smash his car into a pond, drown a woman, not report it for half-a-day and then still be a lionized hero to the Left.

Enough Is Enough.

On Friday night a a photo surfaced on Congressman Weiner’s yfrog account and in his verified Twitter timeline of a man in tight underwear with a bulging erection. The photo was sent to one of the many young attractive coeds who Rep. Weiner “follows” on Twitter for his news and entertainment. The image was immediately deleted. Rep. Weiner claimed his account was hacked but the upstanding Congressman has not contacted the FBI or Capitol Police. However, he did lawyer up and insisted we move on.

Imagine if Anthony Weiner were a Republican. (I know, it’s such a hackneyed visualization, but it’s important here.) The liberal/lefty blogs would be shredding him mercilessly. I’m not saying Weiner’s not getting his hair mussed. But if he were a Republican, the feeding frenzy would be of a different magnitude entirely.

And she said this in March, well before Weiner thought it was a good idea to Tweet a pic of his wang.

So in Wiener’s World hacking multiple social media platforms of a sitting US Congressman in what’s clearly an attempt to damage his reputation and limit his participation in debates of national importance is just a “prank”?

Most people would call it something else…a crime.

I’m not a high priced NYC or DC lawyer but allow me to offer some advice. Call the FBI.

Rep. Weiner is much too sophisticated to merely go after the “hacker” in court like that hick Sarah Palin did.

Sure, I said he’d hire a private security expert, and he will do that; but for now, he’s got himself a lawyer– not to protect himself, you understand, just to suggest he might sue people for saying there was no hack.

Um, bluff called, dude. As Derek Hunter said:

Victims call cops.

Perps call lawyers.

So, thanks for the confirmation, feller.

As a funny Tweeter said (sorry, can’t remember who), calling the police would only result in the classic horror movie reveal: We’ve traced the hack! And the hack is coming from… INSIDE THE HOUSE!!!

The Kommunity at Kos is sick beyond words. Toxic, stupid and hateful – it’s a mob of savages who sully the name of political debate. These are the people who attack Sarah Palin for the Arizona shooting. They are taken seriously by the media. They need to be exposed, often. They are worse than people know…

But he out-thought himself. Because he was conflicted. He was trying to play it two different ways — one, claim a hack, which requires an angry response.

But that will drive attention to it, right?

So, two: A lighthearted dismissal in hopes everyone will just blow it off.

So this is the problem. He’s got two different reactions going here, all mixed up, and isn’t committing to one or the other, because he’s trying to get the good benefits of one (claiming a hack) while also getting the good benefits of the other (making it just go away).

But since he’s trying to do both, he winds up with neither. They don’t make sense together. If it was a hack, he shouldn’t be playing it down. If he’s playing it down, he should’t claim it was a hack.

He did both. It makes no sense. It never did.

And this may not be as persuasive as Charles Johnson’s and Daily Kos’ “smoking-gun” technical proof, but this sort of thing actually identifies a lot of murder suspects who are eventually proven guilty.

His Pantomimes were all mixed up. Pick one Pantomime and commit to it. Don’t mix and match Pantomimes like you’re ordering Chinese.

He’s not dumb. He’s probably a good liar. If he had time to think about this and compose himself, he might have picked the right Pantomime and stuck with it, and who knows, maybe gotten out of it.

But he didn’t have time. He had a couple of minutes. He was panicking. He went with two Pantomimes that just don’t go together. Like, ever. In 100,000 years of human history, the words “I HAVE JUST BEEN CRIMINALLY VIOLATED!” have never been genuinely followed by, “And hey, anyone catch the score in the Bruins game?”

Now the police could finally conduct the search that was the entire justification for the raid. They found no drugs, but did discover another AR-15, plus a third rifle and two handguns. There were also several sets of body armor and a hat bearing the U.S. Border Patrol logo. None of these items is necessarily illegal or, for a Marine, even uncommon. But Krygier told his debriefer that the weapons and armor were consistent with what a cartel rip crew would possess.

Nearly a month after Guerena’s killing, it’s still unclear whether the Marine had any ties to a cartel. But the absence of clear evidence means we must assume he was innocent. It’s equally unclear, at least to outsiders, precisely how the shooting went down and who’s to blame.

One thing is clear. With military-grade vehicles, armor, assault weapons and robots, the raid on Guerena’s home was all but indistinguishable from the kind of house-clearing operations U.S. forces perform every day in Iraq and Afghanistan. Guerena survived two tours in the desert only to perish in a military-style action in his own home.

When President Johnson declared a “war on poverty,” he said “compassionate government” was the road to prosperity for poor people. That made sense to me. At Princeton, I was taught that government’s central planners had the solution to poverty.

But then I watched them work. Government spent trillions of dollars on poverty programs, and the poverty level stayed stuck at about 12 percent of the population. It’s stayed there for about 40 years.

Now I understand that that government poverty programs encourage people to stay dependent. There’s money in it. They policymakers would have known this 25 years ago had they read “The State Against Blacks.” The author, an economist, said poverty programs destroy the natural mechanisms that have always enabled poor people to lift themselves out of poverty.

Loser pays in Texas

Just like in England.

And the trial lawyers signed off on it.

“Baja Arizona” “Pro-Amnesty Dem Latinos Start “Tequila Party”…

Soon to join the “Coffee Party” in the bowels of obscurity.

Not surprisingly all the Texas Democrats in the legislature opposed Gov. Perry and the Republicans bill to end ‘Sanctuary Cities’ in Texas. Houston is a “sanctuary city”’.

Just seconds before he was struck and killed by Johoan Rodriguez’s car, Officer Will pushed another man out of the way. KTRH spoke to the Chief:

“The man heard the impact before he hit the ground,” says McClelland. “But he credits Officer Will with giving him the prior warning of yelling ‘Get out of the way!’ it actually saved his life.”

The tragedy of Officer Kevin Will’s death is compounded by the fact that his killer, Johoan Rodriguez is an illegal immigrant who had twice been deported, only to find his way back into the country.

Will is also the sixth consecutive HPD officer to be shot or killed in the line of duty by an illegal immigrant.

Perhaps DNC head Debbie Wasserman Schultz needs to rethink her belief that “undocumented immigrants” are not criminals.

The Florida congresswoman has stated that undocumented immigrants (like like the twice-deported Johaon Rodriguez), are “part of the backbone of our economy and not only a reality, but a necessity…” I‘m pretty certain that officer Will’s seven-month pregnant widow and his two children would disagree with Ms. Wasserman-Schultz.

Obviously it is not the cream of the crop that Mexico is flushing across the border. Good citizens immigrate legally. Also obvious is the futility of deporting anyone so long as the border remains willfully undefended as part as the Obama Misadministration’s strategy of “fundamentally transforming” America by altering its demographic makeup.

But let’s be honest about it — if we did more to stop border-jumping and to remove the immigration criminals, we would not be preparing for the funeral of another a good cop who died doing his job. The same was said five years ago when the dead officer was named Rodney Johnson. Maybe next time, if the law enforcement officer killed by an illegal immigrant is named Hernandez, Salazar or Sandoval, those who style themselves as spokespeople for the Hispanic community will finally start giving a damn about the toll that illegal immigration takes in terms of the victimization of American citizens and legal immigrants at the hands of those whose right to break the law they defend.

CA Braces for Coming Tidal Wave of Released Felons

If on November 6, 2012, you enter the voting booth and remain undecided on how to cast your ballot for president, pause to consider a single Supreme Court decision handed down last week. After weighing the legal reasoning of that decision, and more importantly its consequences, both actual and potential, go ahead and choose your candidate accordingly. But be warned: If you live in California, you may wish to mail in an absentee ballot at the earliest opportunity, as your chances of surviving until Election Day have just been somewhat diminished.

MSM Circus and Celebutard Side Show:

Someone call the WAAAAAAAHbulance for the MSM! They are all upset because someone who they have done their best to destroy not only her but her family treats them like “paparazzi”.

What makes Sarah stand out in the national GOP field is that she is beholden to no one and controls her own destiny. She doesn’t need media kingmakers to make her. They need her. She doesn’t need newspaper or TV producers to drive her story. She drives them. Crazy.

The unhinged reaction of the Palin-hating convoy reveals what its attendants fear most: a politician who doesn’t fear them.

“I think to start with, we ignore some of these reporters and their requests for us to comment and be interviewed,” she said. “We know going into what they are going to do to us to as conservatives — so, why participate in their game?”

Which begs the obvious question, if she’s such a danger than why do they continue following her?

They’ve reported wars, riots and all manner of unrest, but the media’s latest assignment may well be their most perilous to date and would have even Ernie Pyle quaking at his typewriter: Covering Sarah Palin’s bus tour

How dare she not show up at the battlefield! How mean! How rude! The woman is a disgrace and should never run for office! We at MSDNC are outraged!!!!!1!!!!

Except, of course, she had not announced any plans to visit the battlefield, so, MSDNC is creating an issue where none existed. I find it amazing that this woman, who is considered, by Liberals and elitist barely Republicans alike, stupid, inconsequential, an intellectual lightweight, has no shot at being president, is old news, etc., can still get everyone talking about her, and in many cases, trying to gin up some sort of negative story.

Sarah Palin, with her counterintuitive secret publicity bus tour, is demonstrating one of the most important rules of American politics:

There is nothing the U.S. media wants more than something it thinks it can’t have. Hence the power of news leaks that manipulate the thrust of their initial presentation. Hard-to-get is a rigid rule of human behavior. Ask any teenage boy or girl.

And there are few things more sweet to Palin and her fervent supporters cheering their TV sets this week than the image of a hungry know-it-all “lamestream media” caravan of 15 or more vehicles traipsing along behind her red-white-and-blue bus enroute to they-know-not-where to do they-know-not-what.

To make it worse, each one of the frustrated, confused chasers knows that Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren is….

…riding along with the not-yet-and-possibly-never Republican presidential candidate, filing exclusive conversations for her audience to gobble up that only enhance Palin’s already million-dollar value to FNC. Can you hear the teeth grinding? While Palin smiles and waves away?

Klein and Time Ride to Obama’s Rescue

I don’t know why anyone thinks that this is surprising. The MSM are Obama and the Democrats “ho’s” and they are just treating them like a Pimp does their “ho’s”…Dangerous Precedent for Press

A little more than a week ago, Vice President Joe Biden traveled to fundraisers in two battleground-state cities, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

Neither stop included the White House press corps; requests by local media to cover the events were denied by the vice president’s press office. The Democratic National Committee arranged the events for the Obama Victory Fund.

A number of seasoned political reporters and former White House press-office staffers consider that lack of coverage a dangerous precedent.

“It would behoove the Obama administration to keep its promise of transparency even with fundraisers,” agrees Jeff Brauer, a political history professor at Keystone College. “The United States is a democracy, after all.”

Napoleon in Rags and the Language That He Used

And they continue to do so. Liberals can’t just ignore Fox; they find it too fascinating. They are like the kids in high school who absolutely despise the pretty, popular girl, then spend hours on the phone every night talking about her. At the core of it is jealousy, as well as the rage, paranoia and resentment that Tom Dickinson attributes to Fox. I mean, journalists were going to help the left change the world. And you can’t do that by giving dissenters a voice.

But that’s the problem with wanting to change the world — sometimes it changes all by itself, without your help. And you find yourself working for a magazine that once considered itself “countercultural,” now comfortably part of the bourgeois, and hating the real counterculture. To coin a phrase, how does it feel?

Insights into the Mind of the Hack

Kurtz himself, back when he was at the Washington Post laboring under the worst conflict of interest in journalism, had enough sense to note that the MSM “steered clear” of the Edwards story and only “tried halfheartedly to confirm the tawdry tale” while “they ignored it in public.” He blamed sympathy for Elizabeth, not politics.** But whatever the reason, it’s hardly an example of not giving a Dem the benefit of the doubt. That today’s Kurtz could convince himself otherwise, even momentarily, even on Twitter, says something about the MSM’s reflexive powers of self-justification.

“May snow depths are deeper than anything we have seen in the last 45 years”

Newsweek’s Global Warming Fearmongering Isn’t Science, It’s Science-Fiction

Starting in about 2008, the global warming hoax slowly started to come apart. Scientists started to recant as none of their models accurately predicted current temperatures or sea levels. Then came ClimateGate. Just a few months ago polls showed that just 35% of Americans — a new low — believe in anthropogenic global warming. Just last week the G8 nations finished abandoningthe Kyoto Protocol.

Faced with the widespread decline in their pet theory, what are global warming believers to do? Hit the panic button:

That is Newsweek’s latest cover and it comes with a hysterical fantasy from the so-called science editor. The article is one of those piece of media paranoia that is so wrong it is hard to know where to start. Since I haven’t got time to fisk the whole piece, here are five obvious errors.

North American English Dialect Survey

We are doing research on different accents in “North American” (US and Canadian) English. We know that Americans and Canadians have a great deal in common in the way they speak, but there are also differences. These differences are influenced by geography, gender, age, ethnicity, and many other factors. In order to study the ways that North American accents differ amongst each other, we have put together a survey of common words, and we’d like you to participate!
