Today’s Must Read: SCOTUS Makes It Official: California A Failed State

Let there be no mistake: when you produce so many criminals that you can’t afford to lock them up, you are a failed state.  Virtually every important civil institution in society has to fail to get you to this point.  Your homes and houses of worship are failing to build law abiding citizens, much less responsible and informed voters.  Your schools aren’t educating enough of your kids to make an honest living.  Your taxes and policies are so bad that you are driving thousands of businesses away.  Your management systems must be fouled and confused to the max for you to create something so dysfunctional, so wildly beyond your means, that the Supreme Court of the United States (wisely or foolishly is another question) starts to micromanage your jails.

California used to be the glory of this country, the dream by the sea, the magic state.  Now it produces so many criminals it can’t pay to keep them locked up.

Fukushima I Nuke Plant: Radioactive Materials at Reactor 2 Silt Fence Rising, Again

Radioactive iodine-131 shot up inside the silt fence in front of the water intake for the Reactor 2. Radioactive cesium (134 and 137) continues to rise OUTSIDE the silt fence for the Reactor 4, and the water levels at the trenches from the Reactors 2 and 3 continue to rise.

All is not well at Fukushima I Nuke Plant; it never has been since the earthquake.

Fukushima I Nuke Plant: Higher Radioactive Materials Outside the Silt Fence of Reactor 4 Than Inside?

Some funny numbers for the Reactor 4′s nuclide analysis at the silt fence at the water intake.
TEPCO’s press release on May 28 on the samples taken on May 27 shows the water OUTSIDE the silt fence for the Reactor 4 water intake had a much higher radioactive material concentration than the water inside the silt fence.
This wasn’t the case at all on May 25 samples whose level of radioactive materials was higher INSIDE the silt fence, as you would expect. Hmmm. The silt fence for the Reactor 4 water intake is not working? But why would the outside be more radioactive than the inside?

Canadian Government Money Going To The Next Gaza Flotilla?

Are Canadian tax dollars helping pay for activists from this country to take on Israel?

If not directly, it comes awfully close. Too close.

Radicals from this country are organizing to take part in a flotilla that will try to run the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza. A boat from this country is expected to be part of that flotilla in June and one of the main groups involved gets millions of your tax dollars.

African land grab could lead to future water conflicts

Is this the face of future water conflicts? China, India and Saudi Arabia have lately leased vast tracts of land in sub-Saharan Africa at knockdown prices. Their primary aim is to grow food abroad using the water that African countries don’t have the infrastructure to exploit. Doing so is cheaper and easier than using water resources back home. But it is a plan that could well backfire.

“There is no doubt that this is not just about land, this is about water,” says Philip Woodhouse of the University of Manchester, UK.

Sarah Palin: Should We Be Borrowing Money From China to Give to the Muslim Brotherhood?

Given that we are running massive deficits and are drowning in more than $14 trillion in debt, and despite not knowing who will rule Egypt until its election this fall, this strange strategy may be the end result given President Obama’s announcement that he is committing $2 billion to Egypt’s “new government.” It’s part of a $20 billion foreign aid package laid out with the Group of 8 countries in Europe today.

Now, given that Egypt has a history of corruption when it comes to utilizing American aid, it is doubtful that the money will really help needy Egyptian people. Couple that with the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is organized to have a real shot at taking control of Egypt’s government, and one has to ask why we would send money (that we don’t have) into unknown Egyptian hands?

Tax Hikes Are Not Government Savings

Most people think of savings as that portion of a family’s income that they put away for emergencies, a big purchase, or their kids’ college education. It seems that some in the media want to change that definition.

The Hill ran an article equating tax increases with “savings” in terms of the budget deficit:

Senate Democrats claim they are close to agreement on a spending plan that would reduce borrowing by more than $4 trillion over the next decade, with about half the savings coming from higher taxes.

To review: Savings come from spending less, not taxing more. Higher taxes cannot be savings for the government, because the income wasn’t the government’s to begin with. The extra revenue that would come from those tax hikes belongs to the American families and businesses that earned it. The government cannot “save” it by taxing it away from those who earned it.

“Where are the jobs?”

‘Startup America’ Will Have a Bad Ending

In January, the Obama administration announced a major new initiative to revitalize the national economy called Startup America. Its main objective is to unleash the nation’s latent entrepreneurial energy.

But it is just as likely to unleash a wave of failed enterprises and crony capitalism.

It won’t happen as long as Obama and his job killing policies and regulators (see EPA and NRLB) are around…U.S. buys Russian aircraft

Elizabeth Warren (Who?) CFPB nomination on indefinite hiatus.

The Who? in the title reflects the fact that Elizabeth Warren is more or less unknown outside of Activist Left circles, where she is generally considered to be a secular saint*. Warren would also be the first head of the “Consumer Financial Protection Bureau” (CFPB) mandated by Dodd-Frank, except for the minor detail that the last thing we need right now is yet another regulatory agency seemingly designed to put the brakes on economic development.   Anyway, the short version of the current brouhaha: Senate Republicans won’t let Warren’s nomination come to a vote; House Republicans have no qualms whatsoever about denying the President the ability to make recess appointments for the rest of the 112th Congress; and Democrats, having conveniently forgotten that they did the exact same thing to President George Bush, are upset and wounded over the entire thing. And, oh yes, progressives are particularly upset and wounded that a Republican** called her a liar to her face when she tried to play I’m-too-important-for-this-hearing

The fake Chrysler loan payoff

This is simply more smoke and mirrors from the “Smoke and Mirrors” administration, now engaged in pre-election image burnishing. In fact, the payback (someone call Debbie Wasserman Shultz) involves allowing a foreign auto company to take more control of Chrysler and then tossing a loan for 3.5 billion from government on top of the Fiat purchase of Chrysler stock at a reduced price.

They want you to believe this signals a stronger and profitable Chrysler. In fact, it is a pathetic attempt to fool the public.

But it is even worse than that

Some Paid More For The Auto Bailout Than Others

Given the celebratory, even triumphalist, rhetoric that’s being applied to the auto bailout after the fact, it’s important to remember that many suffered in order to give GM and Chrysler a second chance. Even those who are proud of the bailout’s accomplishment should acknowledge that the jobs saved carried a price that goes beyond any final accounting of anonymous billions lost from the federal budget. The pro-bailout crowd should take more care to recognize and heal the deep wounds that fester beneath their “Mission Accomplished” rhetoric… if only to prevent a repeat of these tragic decisions in the event of future industry rescues.

Great Moments in Bureaucratic Competence: IRS Often Doles Out Home Energy Tax Credit To People Without Said Home

Both credits have been popular. More than 6.8 million taxpayers received credits during tax year 2009, totaling $5.8 billion through December 2010. But substantial numbers of the filings had problems that went undetected by the IRS, according to the inspector general’s investigation. In a review of 5 million returns, auditors found that more than 302,000 taxpayers, who received a total of $234 million in credits from the IRS, showed no evidence of owning a home — the minimum requirement for eligibility.

A review of a smaller sample of returns, supplemented with local real estate property deed information, found that 30% “had no record of owning a home.”

The USDA at work dinner

Wow, what a breakthrough! And if the food pyramid had any relevance to diet selection for Americans, it might even have been worth the two million dollars the USDA spent just to design the logo.  Yes, that’s right, it cost taxpayers $2 million for someone to draw a circle, cut it into four quadrants, and then attach labels like FRUITS and VEGETABLES.  The $2 million didn’t just go into the logo design, though.  According to the New York Times, they spent part of that money doing focus-group testing on circles with two lines, and on a Web site, too — as if millions of people will thunder to it to plan their dinners.

In all of the focus group testing, the USDA apparently never noticed that a circle cut into slices looks an awful lot like the meal planning the USDA was trying to discourage:

Some who have seen the logo compared it with a pie chart, though dessert is hardly the association that the administration would like to conjure up. Others likened it to a pizza cut into slices (equally unpalatable for officials). One person said it called to mind a painting by the artist Mark Rothko, who was known for canvases with blocks of color. Those who had seen it would speak only on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized by the administration to discuss it.

Oh, I don’t know — a pizza typically contains grains, meat, dairy, and veggies — and if you get it Hawaiian style, you can even have fruit.  Instead of calling this the USDA dinner plate, why don’t we just call it Boondoggle Pizza?

Obamacare “Power Grab” Unconstitutional

Obamacare is seen by many (including Judicial Watch) as a fundamental threat to our nation’s constitutional order. And we hope this court abides by the plain meaning of the U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court precedent and rules Obamacare unconstitutional.

As we noted in our brief, by current count, at least 20 lawsuits have been filed challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare, with the “individual mandate” representing the main point of contention. Two courts have ruled this mandate unconstitutional, while three other federal courts, including the lower court in this case, have upheld the constitutionality of the mandate.

She does know that it is a crime to be an illegal alien, right? Normally something that has the word “illegal” right there in its name is a big clue that it might not be legal. What’s next? Will mean old Republicans want to make car theft (undocumented vehicle borrowing) or shoplifting (uncompensated one-way commerce) crimes too?

Poll: 85% of Republican Voters Care More About Government Spending, The Economy and National Security Than Social Issues

In order to squeak out another term, the media and the Obama Regime (redundancy alert!) must create divisions and infighting among voters who are concerned about the size of government, the economy and Islamofacism, because generic GOP candidates always win against generic Democrat candidates in polls on these issues.

And social issues are the executioner’s axe they will use to divide and conquer.

The media works hard every day to convince GOP candidates that they have to focus on social issues like gay marriage and abortion to win. The 2010 midterm Democrat electoral bloodbath proved that this is a Big Lie. The winning platform was the Tea Party platform of smaller, Constitutional government, low taxes and massive spending cuts.

According to these poll results, you also hand the 2012 election to Obama when you use social issues as a “purity test” and threaten to stay home on Election Day to “teach the GOP a lesson” unless the GOP candidate promises to outlaw abortion on January 21st, 2013 (which the president couldn’t do, even if he or she wanted to.)

Entitlements Equal Votes

We don’t need to send the country into bankruptcy, in the name of the poor, by spending trillions of dollars on people who are not poor, and who could take care of themselves. The poor have been used as human shields behind which the expanding welfare state can advance.

The goal is not to keep the poor from starving but to create dependency, because dependency translates into votes for politicians who play Santa Claus.

Weinergate:

The biggest problem Weiner has is that he is married to Hillary Clinton’s personal assistant. I am going to guess that ol’ Hillary isn’t going to be very happy about all of this… BTW-Where are the howls from his fellow Democrats and the MSM for him to resign? If he were a Republican they would be screeching 24/7 for him to resign immediately.

Rather than preserve the “evidence” of the “hack”, Weiner, Cordova and perhaps others involved have done precisely the opposite. They have laid waste to online evidence linking them. They have seemingly reviewed every web cache and social network attempting to delete stories, photos, names and any other possible references to their relationship.

And, somehow, the “hacker” — in the midst of a series of tweets by Weiner — was able to compromise both his Twitter and YFrog accounts, post a photo of someone who resembles Weiner, and then have control of the accounts wrestled back by the Congressman in a matter of a couple of minutes.

Yeah, that’s believable. Politico, please change your name to Pwntico. Oh, and as for The New York Post — how about The New York Pwnt?

A “computer hack” like this is a criminal matter. Why hasn’t Weiner reported it to the authorities?

Jesse LaGreca at Daily Kos is trying to turn this into a story about Andrew Breitbart, which is ridiculous. We seem to have actual facts here, facts which require some plausible explanation.

Very simple questions: Was Rep. Weiner exchanging online messages with Ms. Cordova? If so, why? If this is all just a misunderstanding — if Rep. Weiner was the victim of hackers — why was Ms. Cordova the recipient of that message? Why would a hacker randomly select a student journalist in Washington State to send that to?

The congressman’s office can either answer those questions — and answer them PDQ — or else wait until every political reporter on the West Coast is camped out in front of Ms. Cordova’s house.

Okay, I think this proves what very likely happened. Lot’s of names and details so stick with me…

About a week after the tweet in which @GennetteNicole called Rep. Weiner her “boyfriend”, someone noticed that Rep. Weiner was following her back. They thought that was odd since at the time (mid-April) he was only following 91 people, nearly all of them politicos or reporters. But one of those 91 was a young woman with the initials GN

Rep. Anthony Weiner has not yet contacted authorities to report the alleged cyberattack on his twitter account.

On Friday his twitter feed included a link to a photo of a skinny white male wearing briefs while in an aroused state. The tweet was sent to a 21 year-old coed in Seattle.

The coed’s name (one Gennette Cordova) was (obviously) easily accessible, thanks to the wonders of screenshots (such as the ones done by Doug Ross, via The Other McCain), so it was a fairly trivial exercise to do a search for her name, prior to May 2011.  Turns out she’s a writer for her local college: examples here and here and here.  Except that Cordova’s name is no longer on those articles: compare this to this, and this to this… and compare this to this, which has an extra layer of scrubbing going on.  That last one is most interesting, because it’s the one that Lee Stranahan over at Patterico notedwas an article apparently written by Cordova that talked about how sites like Twitter and Facebook would allow people opportunities to meet their ‘celebrities.’

Whether or not those sites also allowed one specific person an opportunity to meet one particular, specifically-directed set of celebrity genitals at one remove is still up in the air: but I am very much wondering why it was suddenly necessary to remove Ms. Cordova’s name from all of her article bylines.

If nothing else, it does look to have been a very unusual night on Twitter for Representative Weiner and one is left to guess as to why he would have been so concerned about the time in Seattle hours before an alleged hacker sent an explicit image to a woman in … Seattle.

Imagine that.

I don’t know. I continue assuming, as Weiner says, that his Twitter account and his separate-company yfrog picture account were simultaneously hacked, and then someone sent this stuff to a college studentin Seattle, and also, for reasons I don’t get, he previously posted a helpful “that’s about 5:45 in Seattle” tweet when discussing an upcoming appearance on Maddow.

I also assume that, after immediately wrestling control of these accounts from the mischievous malefactors, he deletedthe offensive material, rather than preserving the evidence for the police, and the upcoming prosecution of the hackers, who he must surely wish to face the full consequences of law; I assume he did so just because he was so shocked that he wasn’t thinking clearly, and in fact was so stunned by this invasion of his boner zone of privacy that he coincidentally began acting like a man caught doing something wrong.

As I say, I’m assuming all of this is legit and on the level, and that this poor man is being hacked by someone with pictures of what looks like it’s probably his boner.

Rep. Anthony Weiner was not only sending tweets and pictures of his penis to college coeds in Seattle and blaming it on a mysterious hacker, he was also sending tweets to porn stars.

Rep. Weiner was also following a teenage girl on Twitter and chatting with her, too.

Michigan Education Association TV ad: “Robbing”

Over the last decade, thanks to Granholm, the average Michigan worker has lost 20% of his or her income. But try and cut 2% (yes – just 2 percent) of school funding that goes increasingly out of the classroom to pay for unsustainable union benefits (pension, free lifetime Cadillac healthcare, etc), and they literally call it robbery…

Liberals: Looking for Racism? Look in the Mirror.

I’m Lakota (an American Indian nation called Sioux), living off-Rez in Annapolis, Maryland. Having heard the incessant drumbeat that “Southern whites Are Racists,” I was apprehensive when my company sent me to a small town in southern Georgia to help with a project there.  Some of my liberal Maryland neighbors warned me that I would face racial ignorance in southern Georgia.

I’ve spent three weeks so far in Warner Robins, Georgia. The group that I joined has been together for a year. It’s made up of three blacks, one Hispanic, and nine multiple-generation “Southern” whites and self-described “Georgia Crackers,” and now one red man (me).

I was amazed at the absence of the racism I had been pre-programmed to expect by the northern liberals and the news media. When I was in grocery stores and other public places, I saw no racial problems. In fact, everyone was free and easy in how they interacted. Everyone accepted my red skin and spirit hair (pony tail). Some people politely asked about the medicine bag hanging from my neck, a sign of my religion. In fact, the people in Warner Robins, Georgia, made me feel more socially free than I do when I’m home in Maryland!

Borders, Language, Culture-Linguistics

It raises a distinct possibility that some of our Spanish speakers are guests, are not supposed to be on this side of the border for some reason, and don’t think of themselves as being in another country. Now, that’s a problem. That pushes somewhat out of the field of illegal immigration, and into what could be called an actual invasion. Sort of a lazy, meandering “I don’t think of it as an invasion” invasion.

So no, I don’t agree because I can’t…but I definitely see where he’s going with this. It goes right along with having to Press One For English. We’re having a cold, soft civil war right now, trying to figure out if the United States is an English-speaking country or a multi-language country. It is a muted argument, because when people think of conservative-versus-liberal disagreements they tend to think of abortion and taxes. But this is just as important: Once you teach a child how to count to ten, should the next lesson be about how to add? Or should you go on to counting to ten in Spanish, French, Italian, Greek, Swahili…

Palin Thundering Into DC

Could you imagine Obama on a chopper? Neither can I. Especially since this image is seared into my memory.

ROLLING THUNDER… SARAH PALIN Rides Hog Into DC (Video)

Anti-Palin Books Proving to Be Commercial Flops

Palin-flamethrower, Geoffrey Dunn of the Huffington Post released The Lies of Sarah Palin: The Untold Story Behind Her Relentless Quest for Power May 10th and Frank Bailey, former Aide to Palin, teamed up with Palin-critic Jeanne Devon to release Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin: A Memoir of Our Tumultuous Years on May 24th.  Ardent opponents of Sarah Palin have been highly-anticipating these books which promised to tear down Palin’s public image for the long-term.

Interestingly, Geoffrey Dunn’s book has not even hit Amazon’s top-100list since its release; and after a week of media coverage including appearances on NBC, ABC’s The View, Fox News, CNN, and many more, Frank Bailey’s “memoir” disappointingly debuted at #40 and has already fallen to #75.

While reasonable voters notice that perhaps Americans are beginning to tire of the anti-Palin volume, others are sure to argue that Americans simply don’t care about her at all, even though the latest headlines which seem to be tracking her every move impeccably could be enough to put that idea to rest.

One thing is sure for Palin as she moves toward making her 2012 decision.  She enjoys the luxury of knowing she has been thoroughly vetted and scrutinized for the last two years.  While anti-Palin readers have lined their ammunition up one year before a presidential campaign, her supporters are left wondering who is left in Alaska to interview.  Because on the basis of Geoffrey Dunn’s and Frank Bailey’s accompanying Palin-bombs, what they’ve come up with so far doesn’t seem to be effectively extinguishing the grassroots energy Sarah Palin has uniquely created and maintained.

Herman Cain: Barack Obama Is Not a Patriot

What do you say about a person who repeatedly commits acts that are against the best interests of his country and its people, is repeatedly told that he is doing so (e.g., in the November 2009 and November 2010 elections, as scores of those who largely agree with his actions were cast aside in favor of those who do not), and doesn’t change his behavior? A reasonable person can conclude that the person involved doesn’t merely commit a lot of unpatriotic acts. A reasonable person can conclude that the person is not a patriot. As with lying and stealing, determining why that person is not a patriot (e.g., antagonism, profound ignorance, being controlled by other forces, etc.) doesn’t matter.

As Rush said, Barack Obama is the sum of his choices, and there have been enough of them for reasonable people to arrive at the belief that Barack Obama is not a patriot.

Therefore, Herman Cain, when asked whether the president is a patriot, acted as a reasonable person when he said, “No.”

Surprise! The Democrats are starting to figure out that they need those “RAAAAACIST bitter Klingon redneck crackers” if they want to win in 2012. Unfortunately for them we are not as stupid as they think we are….Centuries later, Scots-Irish attract political courters

When national campaign strategists consider targeting an ethnic voting bloc to swing results in their direction, they typically consider blacks or Hispanics.

Yet, an ethnic group they often overlook — the Scots-Irish — are the voters the Republican Party persuaded in 2010 to swing back to GOP candidates, after they swung toward the Democratic Party in 2006, experts say.

As the 2012 election approaches and both parties eye the White House and U.S. House and Senate seats, strategists from both parties say the Scots-Irish again could be critical to winning.

That’s right. Gnashing of teeth. Whining. Crying. Belly-aching about that evil bastard in charge.

The reality is that Florida is a Municide victim just waiting on a body bag to pick up the remains. The municipal and state financing crisis is being averted day by day with clever accounting tricks and finally Florida has a governor who recognizes that real cuts, even those against the RINOPORKOPOTUMAS’ that occupy the state houses in Tallahassee, must be curtailed and reigned in or this state truly will be a mirror image of Kalifornia.

Illinois is a lost cause. The best thing to do is to get out and leave it to the Chicago Commies, radical leftists and Democrats…Illinois Dem remap maniacs marginalizing GOP and voters

The proposed map, drawn by Democratic legislative leaders behind closed doors, is a Gerrymandered mess designed to not only to return delegation to a Democratic majority, but to prop up incumbents who have seen massive population losses in their current districts. They are Bobby Rush (1st), Jesse Jackson Jr.(2nd) and Danny Davis (7th). Yes, these congressmen are Chicago African-Americans. But facts are stubborn things. We have a black president–is it necessary to draw districts designed to elect African-Americans? Hispanics are unhappy with “their” Gerrymandered district, which is represented by Luis Gutierrez. And some Hispanic leaders deem their numbers in the state warrant two districts. Which is good news–Governor Pat Quinn says he wants a “fair map.” But Quinn’s vision of fairness might be distorted because he won just four of Illinois’ 102 counties when he was narrowly reelected last fall. So don’t count on Quinn vetoing the new map.

Green is the new Red and, as we all know, California Communists hate the 4th of July…Fireworks shows need new environmental review

The case, filed by the Coastal Environmental Rights Foundation in Encinitas, targeted San Diego’s approval of the La Jolla event but eventually drew in a broad swath of city permits. San Diego officials said they issue about 400 special-events permits annually, along with up to 20,000 park-use permits for smaller-scale gatherings — most of which would now need environmental assessment.

“San Diego issues thousands of these simple park-use permits over the counter with the only consideration being space, just as other cities do across the state,” said City Attorney Jan Goldsmith. “Existing law has never been interpreted to require a CEQA review for this. … This decision opens the door to absurd results. This is the reason appellate courts exist and we plan to ask for their help.”

Even before the judge’s ruling was finalized, Chula Vista officials on Thursday pulled the plug on their July Fourth show in the face of funding shortfalls and environmental challenges.

The future of La Jolla’s event was fuzzy Friday. Organizers likely can’t complete the time-intensive and costly CEQA analysis by July 4, but Howard said he would ask the court to allow this year’s event while the case is appealed.

Gay activist Herb Sosa: South Beach a ‘war zone;’ demands end to Urban Weekend (with video)

Please view the attached YouTube video (one of many) already posted for the world to see, about Memorial/Urban Weekend 2011 in Miami Beach. http://youtu.be/cjxxGBJmOqQ

It shows our city as nothing short of a warzone – Filthy streets, a drive by shooting, multiple cars crashed in the process, and total chaos on the streets. This is unacceptable and must be controlled before we totally lose our city, tourism & residents. It is not limited to Ocean Drive or Collins – there isn’t a residential street in South Beach not affected by tons of garbage, crime to our vehicles, excessive noise 24 hours a day, and simply a lack of respect for our community, citizens & property. THIS is the image the world see of our “American Riviera”.

When did perceived political or social correctness override the safety & well-being of a community? This is not a race, economic or ethnic issue, it is an issue of visitors who have a total lack of respect for our community, its property & citizens. I know hotel rooms are filled, but at what price and for how long? How many events, meetings, conventions & vacations have been CANCEELLED because of this nightmare we endure each Memorial Day? Almost everyone who lives her that I know, get out of Miami Beach for Memorial Day – including many of you – because of this unruly & dangerous mob that we seem to invite back every year and turn a blind eye to the irreparable damage they leave behind.

How to cut college tuition in half – get rid of the driftwood?

That’s essentially what the Washington Examiner claims:

The Center for College Affordability and Productivity, released a study earlier this week that makes Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s plans for a $10,000 college degree sound a lot more possible. From the report:

Looking only at the UT Austin campus, if the 80 percent of the faculty with the lowest teaching loads were to teach just half as much as the 20 percent with the highest loads, and if the savings were dedicated to tuition reduction, tuition could be cut by more than half (or, alternatively, state appropriations could be reduced even more—by as much as 75 percent).

Plus this:

  • 20 percent of UT Austin faculty are teaching 57 percent of student credit hours. They also generate 18 percent of the campus’s research funding.
  • The least productive 20 percent of faculty teach only 2 percent of all student credit hours and generate a disproportionately smaller percentage of external research funding.
  • Research grant funds go almost entirely (99.8 percent) to a small minority (20 percent) of the faculty; only 2 percent of the faculty conduct 57 percent of funded research.

The MRC gathers up the worst of the worst from lefty talking heads and spends the night making fun of them.

Unexpectedly!

Barone lays part of the blame, at least, on the fact that legacy media are cheerleading for the Obama administration:

It’s obviously going to be hard to achieve the unacknowledged goal of many mainstream journalists — the president’s re-election — if the economic slump continues. So they characterize economic setbacks as unexpected, with the implication that there’s still every reason to believe that, in Herbert Hoover’s phrase, prosperity is just around the corner.

I think that is correct. Nowadays, agenda-driven journalism is about the only kind we have.

New LSM Meme: “Weak GOP Field”

As the Lamestream Media’s approval ratings continue to hover in single digits (similar to personal injury attorneys, seeping poison ivy rashes, gastroenteritis and Congress itself), the meme just hasn’t caught on.

Their next attempt to manipulate the GOP primary process comes in the form of Meme #2:

“GOP Voters Unhappy With Weak GOP Field”

If they can get this meme to catch on, it will have at least four up-sides for the Lamestream Media and the Left (redundancy alert!):

  1. It dismisses the enthusiasm generated by Herman Cain; the massive grassroots support of Ron Paul; the fundraising prowess of Mittens Romney (hey, I don’t like it, but it’s real); and collectively demeans all declared GOP candidates
  2. It implies that if you support any of these candidates, you’re an idiot on the fringes, making it easier to turn you into an Eeyore.
  3. It encourages a never-ending string of candidates to enter the race for the GOP nomination, forcing an ever-larger list of similar candidates to compete for the same pool of campaign donations
  4. It increases the odds of violations of Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment, “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican” as candidates attempt to differentiate themselves and break away from the pack.

I’m not saying fewer candidates are better than more candidates. More excellent candidates are better than more RINO, milquetoast, cucumber-and-mayo candidates.

Palinoia is ramping up in the MSM!

Can you smell the fear out of them? They have done everything they can to destroy her and, like Obi Wan Kenobi, she comes back each time more powerful then they can possibly imagine. Why are they so afraid of her? Because they know they are LOSING! The sleeping giant that is “We The People” has awakened and they need another 5 years to finish the job of totally destroying the country and turning it into a totalitarian ‘socialist workers paradise’. If their precious Obamamessiah loses in 2012 it is over for the ‘quiet revolution’ that the Marxist/Maoist left has worked so long and hard to put into place over the last 80 years.

Remember when Andrea Mitchell attempted to interrupt Governor Palin’s Going Rogue tour in 2009 and got stopped cold by a security guard?

Well, Andrea Mitchell attempted to interrupt Governor Palin’s “One Nation” tour with a false report and has been stopped cold by the facts.

George Will is a conservative (usually), but he’s an Ivy League conservative, and as such he might have a tendency to think that anybody who didn’t go to Princeton, Harvard or Yale shouldn’t be trusted with anything more powerful than a Bic lighter.

Did George Will mention a similar concern in 2008 when a community organizer from Chicago was about to be handed the launch codes and subsequently disclosethe size of the US nuke arsenal? No, because Obama’s smart — he went to Columbia and all.

In our government, there is no evidence to suggest that competence and common sense has anything to do with how many Ph.D’s, Beltway experience or “pinky sticking out while drinking champagne” charm school manners somebody has — to the contrary if anything.

The headline and the story actually show more about liberals than Sarah Palin: namely, that they actually think of people on the political right as enemies. Not opponents, mind you, but, actual enemies. Those on the Left have a tough time thinking of Islamists as enemies, people who actually want to destroy freedom and replace it with a worldwide Caliphate, or, simply kill the infidel, but, Republicans/Conservatives? Enemies. They also see Israel as enemies, and would have sided with Nazi Germany, but, that’s a separate story

It’s a part of the country she’s mostly avoided since 2008, conspicuously not setting foot in early presidential state New Hampshire at all during her two book tours and her 2010 tea party campaign swings. Now, however, with her luster dimmed and her national relevance in question, she has chosen to venture into the belly of the beast.

Really? Her “luster has dimmed and national relevance in question”? The woman makes a post on Facebook and it becomes national news in minutes. She utters a few words, and the media jump like frogs on fire to get the story out. Heck, she’s a big story when she isn’t even doing anything. The media, plus Palin lovers and haters, know that any story about her will generate traffic.

Green Policies a Substitute For Anti-Capitalist, Anti-American Ideas

Those anti-capitalist college professor types that used to sneer at America and supported the murderous antics of the Soviets had for a short time after the fall of the U.S.S.R. no place in which to invest their anti-American ideals. However, it is clear that they have found a new home: greenism. And so, the old left is the new left again, re-born and hiding behind climate change, mythic green energy, and environmental extremism all acting the surrogate for their failed communist-styled ideas.

One of the latest examples of this surrogacy is indulged by the University of Maryland’s Gar Alperovitz with a piece in The Nation entitled “The New-Economy Movement.”

In this piece, Alperovitz not only openly admits that the so-called “new economy” thinking is simply today’s dumping grounds for ages old, communist philosophy — evinced in buzz words like social justice, egalitarianism, and sustainable communities — he claims they will never be satisfied and that as time moves on, the demands of these enviro-centric economic theories will grow “much more radical.”

Social media creates new teen ailment — ‘Facebook depression’

Doctors say what may seem fun and innocent may actually be leading teens into what’s being termed “Facebook Depression.”

If you’re a teenager you’re most likely on a social networking site like “Facebook.” For most it’s a fun, easy way to keep in touch and find out what’s going on with friends. But new research shows a growing number of youngsters who obsess over the on-line sites may be headed down a troubled path.

The American Academy of Pediatrics warns of a new problem called “Facebook Depression.” It results from being bombarded with friend tallies, status updates, and photos of people happy, having the time of their lives, when you are not.

So do birds…Reindeer see a weird and wonderful world of ultraviolet light

Researchers have discovered that the ultraviolet (UV) light that causes the temporary but painful condition of snow blindness in humans is life-saving for reindeer in the arctic.

A BBSRC-funded team at UCL has published a paper today (12 May) in the Journal of Experimental Biologythat shows that this remarkable visual ability is part of the reindeer’s unique adaptation to the extreme arctic environment where they live. It allows them to take in live-saving information in conditions where normal mammalian vision would make them vulnerable to starvation, predators and territorial conflict. It also raises the question of how reindeer protect their eyes from being damaged by UV, which is thought to be harmful to human vision.

Lead researcher Professor Glen Jeffery said “We discovered that reindeer can not only see ultraviolet light but they can also make sense of the image to find food and stay safe. Humans and almost all other mammals could never do this as our lenses just don’t let UV through into the eye.
