READ. THE. WHOLE. THING. Life and death — lots of death — in Africa

Every time I read a story such as this out of Africa — whether about the Ivory Coast, or Rwanda, or Liberia, or the Republic of Congo, or any other African nation riven by violence — I ask the trite and logical question “why?” What is it about Africa that makes significant segments of that continent prone to violence?

And what violence it is. There’s a barbarity to the African violence that makes Westerners quail. Africa seems to lead the world in child soldiers. Worse (if such a thing can be worse), these soldiers don’t get indoctrinated in their youth and naturally drift into warfare (which is the Islamist way doing things). Instead, they’re created when other soldiers slaughter the adults in the village and kidnap the children. The girls are raped and killed, or kept as whores, and the boys, no matter how young, are put on the front lines.

The African killing gangs display unusual imagination and innovation when it comes to devising horrible ways to kill their enemies. Squeezing tires around them and setting the tires alight, chopping off limbs, savage machete attacks, literally raping women and girls to death — Africa has seen it all. These dreadful deaths are not confined to one geographic area. They span the continent from the southern-most tip, to the central areas, to the furthest northeastern or southeastern coasts.

The creation of Azania was celebrated Sunday in a colorful ceremony in Kenya’s capital. Its creation brings the total number of new states to more than 10.

Facebook Sued Over Third Intifada Page

Larry Klayman, a lawyer and founder of Judicial Watch, filed the lawsuit on March 31 in U.S. District Court in Washington, DC.   The Facebook page, which was removed March 29, was allowed to stay posted for approximately two weeks and had accumulated approximately 350,000 “friends.”

In the filing, Mr. Klayman also asks for Facebook to remove all pages that encourage violence against Jews or use the term “Third Intifada.”

Facebook indicates it will fight the case.

Europeans Are Growing Restive Under the Heavy Green Thumb of the European Union

The European Union Commissioner for Transportation Slim Kallas. said “That means no more conventionally fueled cars in our city centres. Action will follow, legislation, real action to change behavior.”  He has denied that the EU plan to cut car use by half over the next 20 years, before a total ban in 2050 will limit personal mobility or reduce Europe’s economic competitiveness.

Cutting mobility is not an option, neither is business as usual.  We can break the transport system’s dependence on oil without sacrificing its efficiency and compromising mobility.  It can be win-win.

US News:

Thanks To 60 Minutes’ Report On Fraudclosure, US GDP Is About To “Soar” By $50 Billion

Several days ago, courtesy of an analysis by JPM’s Michael Feroli, we quantified that the implied “rents” benefit to the US economy arising from squatters not paying mortgages is about $50 billion per year, or just about 0.4% of GDP. Today, thanks to 60 Minutes, this number is about to soar, because if anyone didn’t know before that paying mortgages is for suckers, now virtually every single mortgage borrower, and there are about 48 million of them, will think long and hard before mailing out the next mortgage payment. And if not all, then certainly the 11.1 million underwater mortgages will be one step closer to throwing in the towel on feeding the mortgage monster. Considering that 4.6 million mortgages are currently delinquent for 30 days or more, look for this number to at least double as everyone who is underwater says no mas to a losing game.

Marching orders are simple: “For a stable climate, clean air and water, we must stop the extraction of fossil fuels and other resources.” How? “Target government and corporations. Take it to the point of production: shut down a well site, occupy a mine, take over an office, blockade a bank.” Do that enough and the world stops.

Memo to the US senate PASS SOMETHING

Have you seen a single news story this week asking when the senate was going to pass something? I haven’t (granted I spent yesterday in Bed sick) but I don’t see why it is up to the house which has already done its job to act again when the senate has been unable to do a thing and Republican senators do their country no favors by demanding compromise by the house before they have done their job.

Get something passed first, then we can negotiate based on the two versions available.

Memo to Hill GOP: It’s time to face your giants

So the question is simple: Are Hill Republicans going to stop shooting BBs at trillion dollar deficits and debts, man-up to the Democrats, and face-down this paralyzing bogeyman about 1995?

Here’s an idea: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner should call a joint closed-caucus meeting with compulsory attendance. And for the program, show “Facing Giants” over and over again until their charges bust down the doors like a bunch of crazed NFL linebackers who can’t wait to sack quarterbacks Democrats.

Can the House “deem” a bill into law?

No, it’s not real at all. Republicans need to stop the foolishness and act in accordance with the Constitution.

Issa set to grill postmaster general over finances, union contract

On Tuesday, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe and American Postal Workers Union President Cliff Guffey will be asked about the fact the contract limits outsourcing and layoffs and provides a 3 percent raise over three years.Issa’s questioning of the postal workers’ contract echoes debates in Washington and state capitals about the cost of benefits that public sector workers receive. A Federal Aviation Administration re-authorization bill is hung up in Congress over union provisions and the Republican governors of Wisconsin and Ohio are embroiled in battles over public workers’ collective bargaining rights.

The hearing will also examine the controversial issue of ending Saturday mail, which the USPS has been seeking congressional permission to do since 2010. Issa said that the postmaster general is now leaning less toward canceling it.

NY Lawmakers Receive E-mail Threat

The e-mail found online was titled, “Time To Kill.” The writer wrote, “At first I thought I might pull out a gun at my State office and kill a bunch of these dummies that I work with.”

It also went as far to mention Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords who was shot and injured during a public appearance back in January.

Saturday we caught up with Maziarz to discuss the email sent by someone who expressed his dissatisfaction with the state budget.

“Both the Speaker and the Senate Majority Leader, and the Governor are taking it seriously,” said the Senator. “They referred the email to the State Police to see whether or not it was a credible threat, but they’re taking it seriously as well they should.”

Analyze This

The campaign is incredibly revealing. Kloppenburg’s supporters have scraped somewhere far beneath the bottom of the barrel for dirt against Justice Prosser, and Kloppenburg has been content to play along. If I were a Democrat, I am quite sure that I would be ashamed of the candidate and the tactics on display on Wisconsin.

The silence of the left (including the mainstream media) in the face of this disgrace makes one wonder if the sense of shame has been utterly extinguished by the will to power. It really is worth paying attention, for the campaign is a preview of coming attractions.

California high-speed rail: The next stop is bankruptcy

Governors in Florida, Ohio and Wisconsin realized that proposed high-speed rail projects would end up bleeding their states dry year after year so they recently pulled the plug on those projects, even though it meant rejecting “free” money from the federal government. To O’Donnell’s credit, she says she doesn’t try to dissuade him from a path he says he wants to follow, but we can forget about her ever being bright enough to recognize what the world would look like if it weren’t for people with ambitions like her son. An added bonus is that in the military her son will learn that, yes, fire can melt steel — so maybe he can go home and convince Rosie of that fact.

Is Green Regulation the Fabled Perpetural Motion Machine?

California is an interesting case of a state slowly committing suicide. Businesses and citizens are leaving California in droves, there is a tsunami of red ink, and the California Assembly just passed a bill that will require state utilities to get a third of their energy from “renewable” sources by 2020. It is one of the most aggressive standards anywhere.

The usual suspects are delighted. The NRDC says in just nine years renewable energy generation in California will be roughly equal to total current U.S. renewable generation, and supply enough “clean energy” to power nearly 9 million homes, or according to the Union of Concerned Scientists, to drive 3 million cars. A spectacular case of wishful thinking.

Can you think of any case when an agency set up to regulate to control a problem, has quietly disbanded when the problem disappears? Me neither.
