It appears Japan is willing to give up, and write off a several hundred square kilometer area, as nobody in their right mind will ever agree to move in next to a territory that, contrary to lies, er, promises, will not seep radioactivity in the soil and in the water. This is an unprecedented admission of defeat by the Japanese which unfortunately may be the only solution, which will certainly have major implications for the Japanese economy.

#2 and #3 both show close to atmospheric pressure for their Reactor and Containment vessels …

Bone dry cooling pools, negative pressure…Oh yeah, everything is just peachy at Fukushima!
Fukushima is going to dwarf Chenobyl. The Japanese government has had a level 7 nuclear disaster going for almost a week but won’t admit it.
The disaster is occurring the opposite way than Chernobyl, which exploded and stopped the reaction. At Fukushima, the reactions are getting worse. I suspect three nuclear piles are in meltdown and we will probably get some of it.
If reactor 3 is in meltdown, the concrete under the containment looks like lava. But Fukushima is not far off the water table. When that molten mass of self-sustaining nuclear material gets to the water table it won’t simply cool down. It will explode – not a nuclear explosion, but probably enough to involve the rest of the reactors and fuel rods at the facility.

This is about 100 feet for the metrically challenged…Researchers: 30-meter tsunami in Ofunato
Watch this video news report from a Japanese TV station. It’s a story about US Navy personnel flying supplies to Sendai, Japan. Even though very little of it is in English, I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t bring a tear to your eye as it did mine.
“You know, the simple things in everyday life are probably the most precious. I once thought we were goners, but we are now here, living, eating warm meals, sleeping with our legs stretched out.”More than anything else, Yu and Yua are next to me.”
Anybody following the current unrest in North Africa and the Middle East will immediately note that the area is bathed in red. Add in the percentage of a person’s income spent on food and the picture looks even worse. For example, both Spain and Algeria are dark red, yet the Spanish spend only 14.6% of their incomes on food, while Algerians spend a whopping 44% on food.
That means that if World food prices go up they’ll cut into the discretionary spending of the Spanish, while they’ll cut to the bone in places like Algeria.
Spengler from Asia Times. He is one of those “must read” kind of guys like Victor David Hanson and Mark Steyn: Food and Syria’s failure
Arab-language Syrian press reports and blog posts indicate that the administration of President Basher al-Assad tried to prevent a rise in food prices, but provoked instead a wave of hoarding that has pushed the price of staples like oil and rice “above the purchasing power of consumers”, as the online daily al-Tashreen reported from Damascus March 27.
As I wrote in Food and failed Arab states (Asia Times Online February 2, 2011), the newly prosperous consumers of Asia have priced food grains out of the reach of the destitute Arab poor. This is a tsunami which no government in the region can resist
If President Obama’s non-war war in Libya makes no sense, blame his nutty security adviser “for multilateral affairs and human rights” — Samantha Power.
It turns out Power was the main White House aide agitating for military force against Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi. She helped overrule reluctant Pentagon brass by arguing force can be justified on “humanitarian grounds.” She noted that “on a single day, Gadhafi killed 1,200″ of his own people.
Using that metric, she has a long list of humanitarian disaster zones where she’d like to spend more American blood and treasure. Indeed, the anti-war crowd that elected Obama for his isolationist posture may be in for shock and awe well beyond bombs over Tripoli.

In a country where formal social institutions have been either gutted or monopolized by a dictator for 42 years, the foundations of civil society can come from interesting places.
Sorry for the misleading headline, I keep forgetting this is not a war according to Fearless Leader.
That opens a serious political risk for Obama, as all of the news agencies now routinely report that the only reason the rebels advanced this far was because of air strikes from the US and its coalition. If the rebels cannot hold ground against the much-more disciplined government forces without allied air cover, that tends to discredit the notion that we are only enforcing a UN mandate and not intervening on their behalf. If Gaddafi triumphs, the West will look weak; if the rebels can stall Gaddafi’s forces — which looks less likely without significantly increased air attacks — then we will have set Libya up for a long, bloody civil war, one which will create all of the failed-state conditions that serve as breeding grounds for radical Islamist terror groups.

If you have been reading blogs like this and others you would already know this, part 2…Hmm. 22nd MEU Set To Leave For Libya
Thousands of Marines from Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point and New River are preparing to head to waters off Libya.
Nearly 2,200 Marines and sailors with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit are preparing the ships they will be deploying with during their mission to the Mediterranean Sea. The USS Bataan is currently docked at the Morehead City State Port.
The 22nd MEU will relieve the 26th MEU which has been involved with Libyan air strikes and with the rescue mission of a downed Air Force pilot last week.
So, they are going to sail across the Atlantic and into the Med to replace a unit after a little over a week of operations? Not buying it.

The divided state was an artifact of the Cold War in which nations conquered or liberated at the close of WWII were partitioned into zones controlled by the Western Allies on the one hand and the Soviet Union on the other. These included East and West Germany and North and South Korea, with Vietnam partitioned into northern and southern halves in 1954. The Germanys merged through the collapse of the Soviet empire in 1989. Only Korea remains divided, a circumstance that may be corrected at any time.
We are now facing the possibility of an East and West Libya
Actually they had trains before. The US and Russia built them during WWII to haul supplies to Russia. The Allies had some trouble with them because the local population would steal the telegraph wires to make copper cooking utensils and the rails for the steel. Needless to say after WWII they disappeared.

Asian demand is especially strong in the increasingly important China. The Chinese strong cultural affinity and love affair with gold (primarily due to a distrust of Chinese paper money) shows no signs of abating. Indeed, it may be accelerating as was seen in the recent figures from the Shanghai Gold Exchange and customs in China and now reports (including from CNTV – the national TV station of the People’s Republic of China) of shortages of raw gold or unrefined gold. China, now the largest producer of gold in the world is seeing its gold mines struggle to cater for surging Chinese demand.

And so the GDP revisions start coming fast and furious. Following repeated warnings from Goldman (which also modestly cut its GDP forecast), implying that the only firm that matters is about to cut GDP across the board, Fed “Expert Network” Macroeconomic Advisers, headed by the inimitable Larry Meyer, has decided to provide value to its client(s) and slash Q1 GDP from 4% to 2.3%. This means that Joe LaVorgna is furiously coming up with scenarios that blame everything from snow to gamma rays to the dog eating his excel spreadsheets for why he is about to trim his permabullish outlook.
The Confidence Board has released its Consumer Confidence Number, which in March went in freefall from the revised previous print of 72, highest in 3 years, to a below consensus 63.4 (expectations of 65). But while this number is largely irrelevant, the Inflation Rate index surged from 5.5 to 6.7, the highest since October 2008.
Always watch what people do, not what they say. Corporate insider appear to have moderate their relentless dumping of stock. After selling around have a billion in stock each week, corporate executives and officers, sold only $185 million worth of S&P 500 stock in the week ended last Friday per Bloomberg. The biggest selling was in the stock of HJ Heinz ($39 million), Pall ($20 million), and First Solar, Cisco and Priceline in 3rd, 4th and 5th positions (not all that surprisingly). As for buying, it continues to be lethargic and is rescued each week by the 10b-5 buying in Titanium Metals stock which accounted for 70% of last week’s 10 million in purchases (one of the 8 transactions that comprised insider buying). Look for tomorrow’s ICI number to see if domestic outflows have extended to a 4th consecutive week now that retail has once again lost its appetite for top ticking the market.

For the record, Evan Bayh is a gutless turd. He voted for the stimulus boondoggle and then walked it back a year later: Video of Sen. Evan Bayh (D): “if I could create one job in the private sector by helping to grow a business, that would be one more than Congress has created in the last six months”. He abandoned his constituents and voted for ObamaCare against their wishes and against the false notion that he trumped up that he was some sort of moderate. And when things didn’t go well for the Dems after the vote, he turned around and retired rather than having to face the voters: Video: Evan Bayh Announcing Why He’s Not Seeking Reelection. I find it amazing that scarce American interest is given to Mexico, a country waging a formidable war of insurgency along our southern border. Other than the occasional sound bite offered by cornered politicians, the topic is a veritable wasteland in the corridors of power or on major right-wing blogs. Mexico only makes serious news when inflammatory stories of islamic terrorists filtering across the border or narco ranch invasions cause the usual sensational chatter.
Nobody seems to notice that our neighbor’s entire police force, judiciary, media and large portions of their federal government have been corrupted, kidnapped, murdered or frightened into silent complicity by the cartels. More people were systemically murdered during the last two months in Mexico by narcos than Moammar is accused of bagging in the last three decades to maintain his rule. We’re living on the edge of a failed state where horrific brutality has become the daily norm and we’re concerned about a toothless monster ruling ten thousand miles away.
Take a small look at what’s happening on your southern border and tell me why Libya is considered a national concern. Mexico is our second major importer of oil, they’re teetering on the brink of a national disaster because we like to get stoned, you’d think it might behoove someone up north to take a scant amount of notice of the excessive pools of bloodshed washing up in our backyard. Color me jaded, but the old axiom of follow the dirty money might apply to our politician’s bald lack of interest in the major warfare being conducted by one of our major trading partners.

Indeed. Something smells rotten.
After GM’s $50 billion dollar bailout, plus GM’s $9 billion IPO loss 4 months ago, plus the Feds purchasing 1-in-every-4 GM hybrids sold, plus bankrupt GM distributing manager bonuses up to 50% of their salaries, plus GM spending $4 million on lobbyists in the last 3 months, plus Motor Trend naming the government-subsidized Chevy Volt as ‘Car of the Year’ without a single Volt ever being sold, Government Motors is now attempting to replace it’s own consumer incentives with tax payer money.

In the short term, “stimulus” spending does nothing but enrich the crony capitalist collaborators of our bureaucratic overlords. Long term, it hurts the economy by driving up inflation and causing Big Government — the source of our economic problems — to grow even bigger.
Democrats love Keynesian economics because this long-discredited ideology offers a justification to steal massive amounts of our money and spend it in a never-ending drunken binge. But if government spending had a beneficial effect, we would all be riding as high on the gravy train as public sector union members.
There’s a well-worn aphorism in politics that getting U.S. senators to agree on anything is as easy as herding cats. In today’s bitterly partisan atmosphere, that maxim is especially apt. So when 64 senators signed a letter recently that urged President Obama to get involved on developing a “comprehensive” deficit reduction package, it appeared to be a big deal.
But even though Obama has expressed grave concern about the country’s ocean of red ink, he has refused to endorse the Senators’ letter, his fiscal commission’s recommendations for $4 trillion of deficit reduction in the coming decade, or embrace any other approach.
Well here is good news for people who want the $1 trillion, $500 billion annual deficits to shrink to zero — the likelihood of a federal government shutdown is increasing.
While this will mean an unpaid holiday for government workers — no one in Congress has the family jewels to enforce the no work, no pay option — indeed, if we are going to pay tehm anyway, why not make them show up on the job anyway?
Oh wait, that would not shut down a damned thing.
I want a shutdown.
And people who are now borrowing $2 of every $5 they spend have no right to call anyone irresponsible.
Giving EPA the power to regulate it is tantamount to letting it control virtually the whole economy. And unlike other pollutants, no effective, commercially practicable control technology exists. Where economic activity is found to produce too much CO2 for EPA standards, that activity will simply have to stop. Hidden deep inside thousands of pages of technocratic jargon is a fact that should focus the attention of everybody. If not stopped this week, EPA’s regulation of greenhouse gases risks an economic catastrophe.
According to some estimates, just in the next two years the new regulations could cost 1.4 million jobs and decrease U.S. business investment by 15 percent. One study estimates that GDP will be half a trillion dollars less by 2030. Another concluded the cost of gasoline will rise by 50 percent, electricity by 50 percent, and natural gas by 75 percent over the next 20 years. Transportation costs are the primary variable in food prices – so food prices will be affected. Low income Americans, who are particularly vulnerable to spikes in energy and food prices, will be hardest hit.
Normally, the reward for large-scale fundraising in winning presidential campaigns is an ambassadorship or a spot on an advisory panel, but Barack Obama came to Washington on a promise to change “business as usual.” And he has, according to ABC News and the Center for Public Integrity. Not only did rainmaker Steve Westly get a spot on an advisory committee on energy, his business got hundreds of millions in loans from the Obama administration’s green-energy push, announced by none other than Obama himself
Moreover, due to government red-tape, which has gotten more complected under the Obama administration, it can take years for companies who own a lease to complete their exploration activities. To get to the production phase, it could take as long as ten years. Ironically, President Obama wants to tax companies for not producing on their leases, even if the federal government’s refusal to grant permits is the reason why those companies are not drilling.
The truth is, ever since Barack Obama took office the President has been making it more difficult to exploit our own energy resources and now it seems as if President Obama’s energy policy consists of making America more dependent on foreign oil. If today’s Washington Post is indication, the left may be waking up.
Jobs are Obama’s #1 domestic priority, all right: destroying them, so as to make us as helpless and dependent on Big Government as possible.
At least now we know that Obama was doing more down there in Brazil than kicking around soccer balls, shoveling our money at Petrobras, and off-handedly launching wars.
Is Obama trying to destroy this country? Yes — as those familiar with his background knew he would.
What’s next? How about sending America into a third war on behalf of al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood even as government spending threatens to collapse the economy?
Geez, now the Times is dropping the N-bomb on their guy. Can it get worse than a Nixon comparison?
I see nothing in your so-called “blueprint” that will do a damn thing, except drag us further into an economic morass.
It is time to either lead, Mr. President, or get the hell out of the way.
Obama’s problem is that this all seems to be a college exercise to him, and he fails to see the real world implications, nor does he understand that these decades in the future programs do not help anyone now.
Democrats held their own Muslim senate hearing to counter the hearing last month in the House on Islamic radicalism. Senator Dick “Pol Pot” Durbin (D-IL) and fellow democrats wanted to examine Muslims’ civil rights in the US.
Unfortunately, it was just a political stunt.
If Democrats really cared about addressing hate crime in the United States they would have held a hearing on violence against Jews. There were 10 times more attacks against Jews in the US than against Muslims in the last year that data was reported.
This morning Senator Dick Durbin, senior Democrat of Illinois, is holding a Senate Judiciary hearing on ”Protecting the Civil Rights of American Muslims.” Sounds all well and good. Who could be against the civil rights of Muslims or for that matter any group?
Except when you start to scrutinize the Senator’s close and long time relationship with radical Islamic groups and even Hamas terrorists, one has to wonder whose civil rights the Senator is trying to protect?
A lot of non-Muslim Americans feel their communities are singled out by the terrorist acts of a few Muslims that the other Muslims don’t seem interested in reining in or teaching against or resisting in any way. Indeed, they grow offended when one asks them to do so.
I bet Dickie “Dhimmi” Durbin doesn’t address this in his “hearings”-American Muslim Leader Issues Fatwa Against Democracy In Favor of Sharia…

US and Libya:
JIM MACEDA: Well, there hasn’t been any official comment, Willie, from Gaddafi or from the regime or from the compound, yet. I can tell you that the whole, the atmospherics here of the government officials and minders is very different. They had gone to ground for a number of days: very quiet, very tense. They’re looking much more themselves: much more bellicose, much more defiant in the past 24 hours. I would think, it’s an educated guess but I would say that Gaddafi, after hearing that speech, of course it wasn’t on Libyan TV but anyone with satellite television could have watched it, that the regime now is feeling a lot better. That they’re feeling that they dodged a bullet. If NATO’s taking over, they like that. They’ve got much better relations with NATO than with the United States in general. And they love the idea that the US position as stated by Obama is that they’re not looking for regime change.
Darn. I missed ‘President’ Obama’s big speech on why we are in Libya tonight….by all accounts I’ll go with Sarah Palin’s reaction to it which was…”What is the mission again?”
What I did notice from the few clips that I saw was that Obama made sure to start out with praising all the troops and soldiers and reminding everyone that was listening that he is the “commander in chief” who can put our troops anywhere in the world in which he sees trouble…(What is Congress for again? Why do we pay those guys?)He said this: “The United States of America is different and as president I refuse to wait for the images of slaughter and mass graves before taking action. Moreover, America has an important strategic interest in preventing Gaddafi from overrunning those who oppose him,”
(Mighty Mouse…is on the waaaaaaaay!!)
And remember, just as it is with Labia, “There’s good mocking and there’s great mocking, but there ain’t no bad mocking.”
Welcome to today’s debate on patriotism when it comes to unconditionally supporting a president at a time of war. Today’s debaters are MSNBC host Ed Schultz and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“Mosques destroyed,” the president said, supported his argument for air strikes. Churches are being destroyed daily in the Muslim world, but the U.S. does not intervene. Take Iraq, for example. We have sacrificed thousands of our soldiers’ lives and billions in treasure in an effort to bring freedom to this war-torn country.
But the Christians there are daily being murdered and their churches bombed. As a senator, Barack Obama had no interest in preventing Saddam Hussein from filling mass graves. He vocally opposed our going into Iraq. That was then.
In Pakistan, the only Christian cabinet member was assassinated and a Muslim governor who sought to protect a Christian woman from death was also gunned down, reputedly by his own security guard. Christians in Pakistan face escalating persecution. Their churches are attacked and anyone who converts from Islam to Christianity is killed.
The shallowness of this speech shows a real audacity of hope in the ignorance of the American people.
You don’t just walk up to the local bully and slap him across the face. If you are determined to confront him, then you try to knock the living daylights out of him. Otherwise, you are better off to leave him alone.
Anyone who grew up in my old neighborhood in Harlem could have told you that. But Barack Obama didn’t grow up in my old neighborhood. He had a much more genteel upbringing, including a fancy private school, in Hawaii.
Maybe that is why he thinks he can launch military operations against Moammar Gadhafi, while promising not to kill him and promising that no American ground troops will be used.
My friend David High, Marine Iraq combat field-grade infantry officer with three years there and later, civilian service in sub-Sahara Africa, called me tonight and said, basically, that Obama got rolled by the Europeans.
“It’s their mess,” David said. “This is an after-affect of French and Italian colonialism. The Libya war is neo-colonialism by the Europeans. And the United States is like fraternity pledges that the brothers make mop up the frat house floor on Sunday morning after an all-night kegger that they didn’t attend.”
And what is puzzling, if not actually astonishing, is that Barack Obama, who reputedly is of such deep anti-colonialism that he kicked Winston Churchill’s bust all the way from the Oval Office to London, fell for it.
No, that’s not his World Wrestling Federation handle. It’s a reference to his abominable speaking style.
First, a time out to put this post in context. Forgive me for going to my favorite well, but I can’t help it. Query: Why was Reagan so good at Oval Office speeches (and other venues as well)? Among other things, he was very very spare in his hand gestures.
This is a simple point, but one overlooked by 99 percent of all public speakers.
The NY Times tosses darts at their Obama poster, noting echoes of Bush 43 in his speech on Libya. But they overlooked this channeling of Bush 41
Progressives may remember George Bush as the fascist warmonger whose bloodlust was going to plunge the world into chaos, and worse yet, make people not like us.
Cheer up, libs. The Manchurian Moonbat makes up for it by not acting in America’s interest. Gaddafi was pacified by Reagan and has been quiescent for years. The al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood types Obama is helping into power on our dime and at the inevitable cost of American lives are anything but.
There’s no way the U.S. can be involved in an action like the Libyan war without coming in contact with some pretty bad actors. That’s a good reason not to be involved in an action like the Libyan war. But even if involvement is an ugly necessity, do we have to give active support and protection to people who have devoted their lives to killing Americans?

The difficulty here isn’t convincing grassroots righties that they need to get their message out 24/7, it’s figuring out how to raise that temperature again to the point where people are out in the streets, knocking on doors, volunteering, organizing, donating, and so forth. Candidly, I don’t know how you do it; the best fuel is anger, but having just won a major legislative victory in Wisconsin — imperiled though it may be — some conservatives just may not be feeling the rage right now, no matter how vicious or intimidating the left tries to be. To see just how vicious, have a look at the sort of sleazy attack ads they’re running against Wisconsin Justice David Prosser. Not only is Politifact calling them on it, but even one of the victims in the case is so disgusted that he wants the ad pulled.
When federal employees protest, especially employees from the IRS, whom are they protesting against? In the case of the IRS, the agency that takes from us our taxpayer dollars, they are protesting against the taxpayers to keep the gravy train rolling along. Already 100% of federal tax revenues are less than just entitlement spending, but the tax collector demand that no cuts be made, and no government shutdown be enacted.
Governor John Kasich was on Fox News this morning to talk about his budget cuts and reforms he will enact in Ohio. Among the reforms, it includes Medicaid reform, education reform, and prison reform.
However, many union leaders and their members are balking at these reforms. Once Kasich’s bill becomes law, public employees must pay more for their pensions and benefits.
Parts of the government will be privatized, and there’ll be reforms in education, that’ll include doubling the amounts of vouchers and giving parents more choice.
Kasich defended his budget and said specifically that his medicaid reform will be “a model for the country.”
So why the heck do I have to read about such a thing at Michigan Capitol Confidential rather than at The Detroit Free Press or News? Do you think the establishment MSM would hand out such a big pass if the shoe was on the other foot and this was the tea party making such depictions of Obama. Yeah – me neither…
The question of whether states will be allowed to change the benefits for current retirees will depend on the courts, but the reality is that when there is no more money, there is no more money.
Since taking office, Pres. Barack Obama has shown a remarkable penchant for changing the law by fiat. From Citizenship and Immigration Services’ debating how best to let the maximum number of illegal aliens off the hook to the EPA’s declaring it would treat carbon-dioxide emissions as a pollutant, the administration has taken the stance that votes in Congress aren’t really necessary, even for dramatically contentious subjects. Who needs a debate and a vote when you can rule by regulatory decree?
One critically important example of this was the 2010 decision by the National Mediation Board — a body whose three members are appointed by the president — that made it far easier for airline and railroad unions to take power over those industries by changing the way union elections are held. This week, the House is considering a law that would reverse the decision. The law deserves support without reservation, and the House’s vote will be a sign of what’s to come from the new Congress on labor.
They must not be receiving much since I’ve been getting emails like this almost daily. They really need to update their playbook. Carville’s been babbling this same nonsense for 20 years now.

So right now, this very minute, there are Obama operatives paying off people, using those hundreds of millions of dollars at their disposal, preparing the road to reelection for Obama in 2012. And I mean they are everywhere. That mess in Wisconsin – holy shit did that spook them. The union thing…that subject…Obama money is being funneled to the recall efforts you know. Millions of dollars to penalize those state politicians who dared to stand up to the unions. And if they succeed, watch out! It will be another huge step in centralized power by the government. I’m not talking Democrat vs Republican here…shit, no. Like I’ve said, these people, the Obamas, the current crop of union leaders…the goddamn so called progressives – they ain’t Democrats. They are something else – something not right. Something very dangerous to what we know as America. They want to change it all. They want to punish the past. They want to make an entirely different future. Hope and Change – what brilliant slogans. Simple and easy to understand. Never knew…all the times I seen those words a few years back – never knew just how sinister those words really were when in the hands of these people…
The membership of the Loyal Order of the Terminally Boned (LOTB) has been growing by leaps and bounds! Today’s inductee…Georgia!
Public employees adopt a new tactic to avoid taking cuts to their benefit plans: pre-emptive retirement. The generous spirit of public service lives on!
A government shutdown looms. They say that like it’s a bad thing.
Public-sector employees vs taxpayers: it’s class warfare, baby! Old Marxist wine in a new hip bottle!
Okay, now this is serious: Scotch whiskey exports decline as European demand weakens. A nation that cannot afford to get knee-walking drunk is on the brink of the abyss.
Dear GOP: Why are you trying to kill Grandma? What did she ever do to you? (You’re going to see a lot of this stuff in the run-up to the 2012 election, so get ready to be called a geezer-killer many times in the coming months.)
Portugal’s credit-rating gets downgraded again.
How long will property owners keep swallowing significantly higher property taxes even as the value of their real estate continues declining? It’s an open question. I suspect the answer won’t be known until some invisible breaking point is reached, and voters simply rebel against higher taxes while their own net worth and incomes stagnate.
Just because there is little visible resistance to sharply higher property taxes (and other taxes and junk fees as well, of course) doesn’t mean resistance isn’t building below the surface, unreported by a financial media obsessed with the S&P 500 as the only metric of wealth and prosperity and unnoticed by state and local governments obsessed with stripmining more tax revenues by any means at hand.
The tax donkey is already weighed down with a heavy load, and it won’t take much more than a double-dip recession, higher prices for essentials and declining home values to snap the pack animal’s weakened back.
The rising S&P 500 looks good as propaganda, but for most Americans, that’s about as edible and nourishing as an iPad.
If Jefferson County, Alabama does indeed file, then look for the cork to be popped off the genie’s bottle and a wave of smaller communities to suck it up and follow suit throughout the yar. The Chapter 9 bankruptcy process is brutal for all citizens in those communities and the impact will immediately be felt on defaults for issues widely held by pension funds and insurance companies across the nation. This is one reason that I think that after a pause or surge to the upside, the U.S. dollar will plunge because inevitably either the U.S. Treasury and/or the Federal Reserve will have to start buying up the excess muni inventory or witness a new economic collapse far deeper than the 2008-2009 fiasco which ended up with a taxpayer bailout of the banksters.
So what does all this mean? It means you’d better prepare. Maybe you’re comfortable and you have all the disposable income you need. Great, but what about your sister, trying to raise her three kids on 50 grand a year? What about your neighbor or your best friend who is trying simply to make ends meet after losing a job? What can you do to help them? You start by warning them about the coming surge in food costs brought about by quantitative easing. All of the factors discussed above, combined with soaring fuel costs, will most certainly lead to a much higher “cost of living” in the near future. The time to act is now.
Best case scenario, your pantry will provide cheaper food than is currently available in the store. Worst case scenario, your pantry will provide food if there isn’t any in the store. It’s my hope that we never face the latter scenario, but I’d rather be prepared just in case.
LOL! Anyone who has been paying attention for the last year knows this already. The NYT just figured it out and they think that they are so much smarter then all of us “bitter clingers’…Food inflation kept hidden in tinier bags
If you do some research you will find that the rise of obesity in America corresponds directly to the “demonization” of sugar and butter and the change from using sugar to HFCS in products and people using margarine instead of butter-Study: HFCS Leads To Much More Weight Gain In Rats Than Sugar
Most Americans did not need to be told that Detroit is in a bad way, and has been for some time. Americans know all about white flight, greedy unions and arrogant auto executives. The recent census numbers, however, put an exclamation mark on a cold fact: A once-great American city today repels people of talent and ambition.
“Detroit is a classic example of how a culture that was legendary for enterprise and innovation was slowly eroded by toxic politicization from the 1960s on,” says the Rev. Robert A. Sirico, president of the Michigan-based Acton Institute. “It’s been class warfare on steroids, and the inevitable result is that so many Detroiters who had the means—black and white—have fled the city.”
Another way of putting it is this: Unlike New Orleans and Japan, the ruin we see in Detroit is entirely man-made.
Why don’t they just do what they did to Detroit? That is a fine example of “disbanding a ‘majority white city’”-Black Legislatures File Lawsuit To Disband Majority White Cities
No, that headline is not wrong. Now I don’t want you folks in New England or the Midwest getting too excited just yet. This sort of thing can only happen in the south because of the most onerous piece of legislation ever passed, which is used until this day to keep whitey in his place, called the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus filed a lawsuit Monday against the state of Georgia seeking to dissolve the city charters of Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Milton and Chattahoochee Hills. Further, the lawmakers, joined by civil rights leader the Rev. Joseph Lowery, aim to dash any hopes of a Milton County.
That particular piece of legislation has been used to stymie southern state governments from doing things like requiring ID to vote to putting mandates on how redistricting is done. The laws only apply to southern states, which to me should make it subject to some sort of constitutional challenge.

Planned Parenthood and similar orgs provide healthcare to women in the same sense that Hamas and Hezbollah provide education to the poor. It’s not what they exist for, but do it in a minimum capacity for propaganda purposes. And my apologies to Hamas and Hezbollah for lumping them in with the ghouls at Planned Parenthood. This isn’t the first time Pelosi took such an absurd line of reasoning (reasoning and Pelosi don’t really belong in the same sentence, but anyway).
It’s useful to compare the Democrats’ position here to their general position on regulation of any other industry.
No matter what the regulation is, they generally support it (except in one case). They always seem to think that government regulations, inspections, and paperwork-compliance creates a better, more hygienic, and more moral industry.
Except here. In this one case, they find regulation, inspection, and paperwork-compliance unduly burdensome.
In the case of one industry and one industry only, they accept the general GOP brief that government interference is burdensome and saps the vitality of an industry.
With abortion, they support the sort of hardcore “Wild West” strong-form libertarian laissez-faire let-people-work-it-out-and-let-the-market-decide regime they decry as “extremist” in any other context.
It seems that there’s only one industry where they are comfortable pursuing this growth-at-all-costs strategy.
And when Planned Parenthood tells people that their mission focuses on women’s health, one of their former directors begs to differ. Abby Johnson left the nation’s largest provider of abortions in 2009 after being pressured to increase the number of abortions at her Bryan, TX clinic, and after watching an ultrasound-guided abortion that convinced her to oppose abortion and work to actually improve women’s health. The Susan B Anthony List pro-life organization has produced this one-minute television ad that features Johnson explaining the actual profit motive at PP, and it’s not condom sales
Attention All Those Who Would Be King (or Queen): This is the list by which ye shall be judged. Do not be found wanting… or be found wanting higher office.
Question to a certain person who told me he thought Huckabee would be a “great candidate”-After Huck’s “Seig Heil”ing Michelle Antoinette Obama’s food nazis and now this do you really still think he would make a “great candidate” unless your true goal is another four years of Obama?
There are very few qualifications in the US Constitution for a US citizen to be President, the primary one being that you have to be said US citizen. Apparently, that – like many other items in the US Constitution – no longer matters to the ruling class
Retweeting shoutouts from commie Van Jones will not endear you with the conservative base.
Morale fell — and stress levels skyrocketed — as cost-cutting employers froze wages, slashed bonuses and asked workers to assume the duties of laid-off colleagues during the downturn. Four in 10 employees say a heavy workload, unrealistic job expectations and long hours have created stress, reports a study by the American Psychological Association.
Does this English nursery rhyme written in 1810 foretell Obama’s future?
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men,
Couldn’t put Humpty together again.
Perhaps. But with government of the government, by the government, for the government now fully operational, our tragic nursery rhyme – reminiscent of The Roman Empire – also foreshadows irreparable damage to America’s wobbly future unless Dumpty the post turtle, and those who put him up there, are scuttled by a firm nudge.
Because political correctness is a totalitarian ideology, imposed by its proponents on every conceivable facet of human existence, language in the latest edition of the New International Version Bible has been altered to eradicate alleged linguistic sexism: forefathers changed to ancestors, he changed to he or she, et cetera. But animal rights militants want input too. After all, as PETA President Ingrid Newkirk has proclaimed,
“A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy.”
That is, there is no difference between an animal and a human, since there is no such thing as a soul and no higher god than leftist political orthodoxy.
the fewer humans there are, the more room there will be for the animals. More space will be needed after chickens have been liberated to run free in the wild. For PETA supporters, essays explaining why they should be prevented from reproducing don’t need to be elaborate. Here’s a sample essay that would convince any reasonable person: “Because I am a moonbat.”
Five police cars and a few trucks of DoT workers? I don’t want to hear another word about there not being enough manpower to fill potholes and catch rapists.

Across the border in Mexico in Juarez, two people have died while infected with the swine flu and others – including several police officers – have been suspected of having the virus. The Mayor launched a vaccination campaign yesterday in response to the possible outbreak.

What happened to all that “dissent is the highest form of patriotism” rhetoric the left spewed when they vehemently opposed Bush during the Iraq War?
We don’t need to rush into candidacies, let alone the game-show antics we call presidential debates. Let the candidates work the stump first to weed out the unserious and disorganized, then hold debates when people are ready to see some interaction. I’d hold off until Thanksgiving, but then again, I’d hold off altogether until a format could be found that doesn’t reward potshots and slogans over thoughtful discussion of policy.
I actually don’t blame Maher for this. He’s a repulsive piece of garbage and always has been. He’s just doing what he’s always done. No, I blame all his fellow travelers who’ve allowed him to speak for them. He keeps escalating and escalating, and they’re fine with it. Well, congratulations, libs: this guy represents you. He is your voice.
You know what? I’m gonna call it. Bill Maher is the de facto leader of the Democratic Party.

This fad is almost dead.
Obviously the failure to scare Americans into doing something rash and foolish shows that no matter how slick and relentless a PR campaign is — Oscars and a Nobel! — the truth will out.
And the Global Warming Hoaxers can roll that scapegoat Big Business right on through and out the door. Big corporations such as BP, GM and GE signed on to global warming early. They saw Uncle Sugar handing out billions in subsidies.
No, what did in this hoax is that it is a hoax. Sooner or later, the public catches on — even if liberals don’t
In Victorian England tours of insane asylums were popular with the gentry, today we have the internet…Green as a Thistle, Nutty as a Fruitcake
In an earlier time, Vanessa would have lurched around in a hair shirt, haranguing passers-by about their sins. Yet there are hundreds of psychiatrically afflicted individuals in every major city who beat her whole list just by living as derelicts. If she keeps buying her organic hard liquor in bulk, drinking it from the bottle (even though she’s sworn off bottled beverages), and treating her nervous breakdowns with green tea, she’ll soon be ready to join them.
To offset the carbon footprint of Barack Obama’s personal jetset Chicago fitness trainer getting flown into DC regularly for hussein and the missus, this year’s Easter Bunny will be forced to use earth-saving ‘green’ eggs at the White House
And that’s the issue in a nutshell: people want cleaner, cheaper, more stable energy, yet, they don’t want to see it. Consider the Cape Wind Project: Ted Kennedy fought it for 10 years, because the wind turbines would be in view of his family compound, and be in the yachting area. He was all for “green” energy, just not stuff that affects him.
Possibly because it grows so fast or because it’s associated with the exotic Orient, moonbats have decided that bamboo is “sustainable.” Even bamboo flooring, slathered in all manner of unpronounceable chemicals to keep it from splintering, is marketed as “green.” Bicycles are green too, not only because they represent pre-fossil fuel technology but because they symbolize the poverty implicit in communism, serving as the primary mode of transport in socialist hellholes like Cuba. Put bamboo and bicycles together, and you can impress even the Moonbat Messiah
A pop quiz for the gentlemen readers-If All You See…
Remeber back in the 1980′s the Econut chorus screeched “OMG(aia)! WE HAVE TO SAVE THE RAINFORESTS OR THE PLANET WILL DIE!!!11!!!eleventy!!!!? That all went quietly away when people found out that it wasn’t the “evil US corporations” that were cutting them down to make coffee tables but the “noble savages” slashing and burning them for new farmland that was the main cause of the “destruction of the rainforest”. Now we have this… New Jungles Prompt a Debate on Rain Forests
These new “secondary” forests are emerging in Latin America, Asia and other tropical regions at such a fast pace that the trend has set off a serious debate about whether saving primeval rain forest — an iconic environmental cause — may be less urgent than once thought. By one estimate, for every acre of rain forest cut down each year, more than 50 acres of new forest are growing in the tropics on land that was once farmed, logged or ravaged by natural disaster.
We have a similar problem here. The vast Pine forests of the Rockies are dying off because the “we must protect Gaia” crowd and the rich Hollywood “celebrities” who own vacation homes in them will not let the Forest Service/Park Service/BLM do “prescribed burns”. Those forests are naturally supposed to burn in order to reinvigorate the soil and this also reinvigorates the habitats that the native plants and animals that live in it. Don’t believe me? Do your research starting with how a Lodgepole Pine cone releases its seeds…
Fun and Interesting Stuff:
An update on the happenings at the Penguin Enclosure at the Edinburgh Zoo: The Gentoos have certainly been busy! They are still “makin’ bacon” and now the first eggs are starting to appear. With the arrival of the eggs the ones who have them are getting a bit broody though there is still alot of squabbling, territorial fights and thievery of the Pebbles of Love™ going on. In watching Snowflake (the ‘blond’ Gentoo-he looks grey on the webcam) steal pebbles from other nests I think that in a previous life he was a successful pickpocket-boy, is he smooth! When the ones who have eggs show them by not laying down on them a small crowd gathers to look at the eggs. Look for the cute, fuzzy little baby Gentoos to arrive the first week of May. Also, if you are a early morning viewer of the PenguinCam you will find that the King Penguins come and hang out with the Gentoos early in the morning (Edinburgh time-very early morning in the US). A trivia tidbit about baby Gentoos-sometimes they are called “water balloons” because their parents stuff them so full of food that they look like a water balloon with tiny feet, flippers and head and they are so stuffed they can barely move. It is no wonder that in the wild the Skuas love eating Penguin chicks-they are a feather covered and defenseless lunch bag for a Skua.
The Egyptian cobra that escaped from The Bronx Zoo over the weekend did what anyone would do after being cooped up indoors for several years…create a Twitter account and tour New York City.
A new Twitter page has emerged in the wake of the venomous reptile’s departure becoming a news media sensation. The twitter account (@BronxZoosCobra) was just started yesterday and already has over 50,000 followers.
The cobra has already visited the Magnolia Bakery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art , and the Museum of Natural History. The cobra visited Wall Street as well, but didn’t stay long since the people down there “made his skin crawl.”
Legendary comedian Steve Martin has been exchanging tweets with the snake as well, so it looks like the cobra is acclimating to the city and meeting new people just fine despite the cold Northeastern climate being a potential hindrance.
Before you even think about asking, the snake has already explained how it can tweet like the rest of us despite not having fingers: “Ever heard of an iPhone? Duh.”
Here is a little historical tidbit about Libya…Did you know that Libya produced the first known human birth control “medicine”? It was worth it’s weight in silver and was so popular that the plant became extinct during Roman times. It is also the probably the ancient source of the “heart” (♥) symbol-the seeds were shaped like it. The plant was called Silphium.
Scientists at MIT have created what may be the first practical artificial leaf — a device about the size of a playing card capable of splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen and storing the energy in a fuel cell. Placing the leaf it in a single gallon of water in sunlight could produce enough electricity to supply a house in developing countries with its daily electricity requirement, according to researchers.
