But, don’t worry… Obama is on it.
Large numbers of police – and new tactics like shrill whistles and street cleaning trucks – squelched overt protests in China for a second Sunday in a row after more calls for peaceful gatherings modeled on recent democratic movements in the Middle East.
Near Shanghai’s People’s Square, uniformed police blew whistles nonstop and shouted at people to keep moving, though about 200 people – a combination of onlookers and quiet sympathizers who formed a larger crowd than a week ago – braved the shrill noise. In Beijing, trucks normally used to water the streets drove repeatedly up the busy commercial shopping district spraying water and keeping crowds pressed to the edges.
I think this is another prime example of financial contagion, something we are seeing more and more of in our global economy. I believe our global economy is deeply interconnected at this point; no event occurs in isolation, and a crisis in one part can spread to a crisis in other parts.
Hundreds of families have fled their homes in parts of Abidjan amidst clashes between armed groups supporting Côte d’Ivoire’s two rival leaders, Alassane Ouattara and Laurent Gbagbo.
The fresh violence in the commercial capital’s Abobo District comes as fighting hits parts of the interior, particularly around the political capital, Yamoussoukro, which is held by forces loyal to Gbagbo but lies directly south of territory held by former rebels.
With the eastern part of Libya having fallen to anti-Gaddafi protesters, it’s being reported that mercenaries from several African countries, including Zimbabwe, are putting up a stand in the west of the country, including the capital Tripoli, on behalf of Gaddafi.
They are reportedly gunning down unarmed civilians at random and Arab TV channel Al Jazeera said that Zimbabwe was helping to provide mercenaries, along with Chad and other African countries.
Take a good look, Democrats, she’s one of yours.
Here are the “57 states” that Obama was talking about…The OIC and the Caliphate
It was only a week ago that close to 2 million Muslims jammed Tahrir Square to celebrate the triumphant return to Egypt of Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, a Khomeini-esque firebrand who pulls no punches about Islam’s goal to “conquer America” and “conquer Europe.” Yet, to take these threats seriously is now to be dismissed as a fringe lunatic, a Luddite too benighted to grasp that American principles reflect universally held truths — truths to which the ummah, deep down, is (so we are told) every bit as committed as we are.
The caliphate is an institution of imperial Islamic rule under sharia, Muslim law. Not content with empire, Islam anticipates global hegemony. Indeed, mainstream Islamic ideology declares that such hegemony is inevitable, holding to that belief every bit as sincerely as the End of History crowd holds to its conviction that its values are everyone’s values (and the Muslims are only slightly less willing to brook dissent). For Muslims, the failure of Allah’s creation to submit to the system He has prescribed is a blasphemy that cannot stand.
Here is what is “delusional”: the belief that American principles — freedom of religion, freedom of speech, equality before the law — have a natural place as “universal principles” in a culture grounded in Shariah principles.
“Millions” of Muslims are coming to DC on July 4th, not to celebrate America, but to celebrate Islam. The goal: “to unite the ummah.”
O & Co. have been out to lunch since protests swept dictators out of power in Tunisia and Egypt — just as they’ve been slow to act against Khadafy now.
Though maybe it’s for the greater good that Rice is an ocean away — when she shows up for work she seems to do even more damage.
Case in point: Just a week ago, she vetoed an anti-Israel resolution in the Security Council, but immediately unleashed a loathsome attack on Israel, damaging US ties with the Jewish state.
This is what a political smackdown looks like: historian Niall Ferguson comes onto a hostile MSNBC set and absolutely takes the entire panel, including Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, behind the woodshed and beats them something fierce! Note that Mika continued insisting that things are working out before retreating towards the end as Ferguson kept lambasting her very premise
They wobbled on Egypt and Libya, they still don’t have a military contingent around the area to help American citizens and interests in the area if need be, ships were delayed in taking our citizens out of these countries, and the public responses left people scratching their heads.
As Bolton explains, the administration is so afraid of offending people.
If you’re pressed for time, the second video is where Bolton lays it out on what the policy is for this administration when it comes to foreign strife: nothing.
But the bubble has burst. The can has retired itself from the kicking game and governments find themselves confronted with a thousand foot concrete wall, extending to the horizon in both directions, against which lies an immense pile of cans. A can of Hope here; a can of Change there. And somewhere under the pile, a can labeled the “Middle East Peace Process”.
Supply is unlikely to converge with demand again until a whole termite hill of parasitic institutions falls to the ground and regulatory regimes allow the markets to produce enough to meet the world’s rising expectations, for the color of the current world crisis is the color of money. Only then can some of the cans be picked up off the wall. For much of the world’s existing establishment, the Ideas of March are nearly come. But they are far from gone.
Secondly, we should note that when the force of government is utilized to concentrate wealth in the hands of a few, the few will stop at nothing to hang-on. Venezuela and Libya and Saudi Arabia have been good for Chavez and Kadafi and King Abdullah (yet not so good for everybody else). Similarly, the incestuous relationship between American politicians and government employee unions is good for the politicians and the union members – politicians give union members what they want and union members vote to re-elect their union-loving politicians – but it’s bad for the taxpayer who ultimately pays the bill.
Ultimately, “big government” produces sluggish and un-productive economies. And the lack of economic productivity leads to civil unrest. It’s a vicious cycle that has got the world in a tailspin right now.
“Big government” is failing, around the globe and here at home. Will America make a better choice going forward?
Barack Obama is a political eunuch. World events cry for leadership and Barack Obama wails about collective bargaining, all the while interfering in a state issue in which he has no business. Obama’s response to the crisis in Libya is to fire up a Motown party in White House.
You ever notice how everything is either “surprising” or “unexpected” when it comes to MSM reports of how the economy is doing, the level of unemployment or the level of inflation?-We’re being lied to: GDP economic growth revised sharply lower
In other words, the stimulus money has run out and states are cutting back. Whatever growth occurred the last 2 years, it was purchased not by wealth but by debt – a debt that will linger to our children and perhaps are grandchildren too, with the only benefit given to government employee unions that keep Democratic Party campaign coffers full by a legalized form of money laundering.
The LeftLibProgs are not at all clueless about their economics. They know exactly what Iron Lung economics do to societies. They wreck them while funneling all wealth to the members of “The Party.” You know, the ones driving their limos in their special lane in the middle of the road; the ones on the private plane far, far overhead that never get the proctological moment at the security checkpoint.
Neither is this class that would be masters about “style over substance.” They are about using the “style over substance” on it’s infinite number of chestless and thoughtless acolytes to bring the “substance” of “The Party” into power, and to keeping “The Party” in power. Kids and adult-adolescents may think it’s about “The Family of Man” and “the greater good,” but it’s really always and eternally about “Who-Whom?” The leadership of the LeftLibProgs knows their economics right down to the last pile of ash in the ovens of Auschwitz and the last shattered skull in the muck of The Killing Fields.
Here’s a linkfest for news about shale gas, oil from shale rock, tar sands and such. We keep finding more of it. It’d be nice if we were able to USE more of it in the US. They seem pretty excited about shale gas in the UK, Europe and Israel.
But if you only read, hear or see this week’s news reports, you would think that oil and gas prices were doing just fine until the historic events in Egypt, Libya and across the Middle East unfolded this past month and caused spikes in the futures market. Unfortunately, that is not the case. President Obama has been unilaterally taking steps to increase the cost of gasoline for two years. Here are ten things you need to know about gas prices that you may not hear reported elsewhere
There is simply no way these factors will not impact the inflationary trend here in the United States in the immediate future, killing any chance for a recovery. Rarely have all these indices been on such a sustained rise in such a short period of time, and unless there is another global recession they will continue to do so.
Already other countries around the world have taken steps to fight inflation while the Federal Reserve is still contemplating deflation and continuing with its quantatative easing program (essentially printing money) while the Obama administration throws fuel on the fire by proceeding with its profligate spending agenda.
Sure, liberal mainstream media has Breitbart and a whole host of other ‘patriots’ in their crosshairs, but there are endless reasons for their convenient lack of coverage regarding Pigford and ACORN; not to mention, the recent Planned Parenthood underage sex rings. With that in mind, I’d like to add Reason #4: Government-Run media hiding truth for the sake of rewriting history — aka Ingsoc.
The following is a summary and time line of articles appearing on the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog and Gun Rights Examiner, reflecting original reporting on the developing “Project Gunwalker” story by Mike Vanderboegh and myself. That’s the purposely ironic name I assigned it, a parody of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive’s “Project Gunrunner,” and it refers to allegations by whistleblowing ATF insiders that:
- ATF management was allowing potentially hundreds of semiautomatic firearms to be walked across the Mexican border in order to pad statistics used to further budget and power objectives.
- Mexican authorities were kept in the dark, and protests that they should be informed were overridden, first by the Phoenix ATF office, and ultimately by higher-ups in Washington, DC.
- A gun used in this operation was involved in a December 2010 incident in which a Border Patrol agent was killed.
According to a report from The Daily the Department of Homeland Security plans to deploy portable DNA scanners at U.S. points of entry. They’re about the size of a desktop printer and can produce lab-quality DNA screenings in about an hour. So in addition to the full-body scanners and enhanced patdowns we’ll have to stand obediently still while a TSA rent-a-cop swabs the inside of our mouth.
Or, no plane flight for you!
Remember what I said a couple months ago about the country needing strong governors?
Walker said eliminating collective bargaining rights to these workers is necessary to give the state the ability to get its finances in order. As he explained, collective bargaining process allows unions to get sweetheart deals such as a requirement in some contracts that teachers get their health insurance from a teachers union-owned company, which Walker said cost the state $68 million more than the state-run employee health plan.
In a recent poll, 70% of Wisconsinites agree that Gov. Walker’s demands were fair.
Pawlenty called out President Obama claiming that Wisconsin and other governors do not need lectures from “somebody who’s never balanced a budget in his life.” He also “I cut spending in real terms for the first time in my state’s 150-year history,” he said.
As much as liberals want to try to shift the narrative as democrats ‘standing up’ to a republican governor as a show of solidarity with the unions, it’s really a show of cowardice. The people of Wisconsin voted in republicans and this conservative governor to put into place this proposal and budget.
- Gov. Rick Perry’s dream: Make the federal government as innocuous as possibleIt is interesting to read the same old tired Democrat/LLP talking points being spewed forth in the comments section on this article. They are so predictable that it is positively Pavlovian. I would get in there for some Clue Bat™ practice but it would be like having batting practice using a T-Ball stand, there is no challenge to it.
Read the whole thing-The Cheesehead Rubicon
In 2008, 56 percent of Wisconsin voters supported Barack Obama for president. In 2009, Wisconsin’s Democratic governor and Democratic Legislature passed legislation that raised taxes and fees by about $1.2 billion over three years. State lawmakers approved the bill on the very day it was introduced, with no public hearing. Remember that.
Michael Barone: Voting for the national interest, not self-interest
It’s a question that puzzles most liberals and bothers some conservatives. Why are so many modest-income white voters rejecting the Obama Democrats’ policies of economic redistribution and embracing the small-government policies of the Tea Party movement?
Meanwhile, they’ll lie, smear, connive, and swindle their way to socialist utopia, dragging the rest of us with them, willing or no. Pliant dupes like McCain will get their hands bitten off every time they try to reach across the aisle, stunned to see their names mentioned unfavorably in the WaPo and the NYT any time they try to go against the grain; nice go-along-get-along moderate types will be left in confusion as the Almighty State envelops and smothers them. Disingenuous, unreliable, finger-to-the-prevailing wind types like Romney aren’t even worth discussing in this context; they’re worse than no help at all.
We’ll succeed in truly reclaiming America for liberty and Constitutional government only when we have leadership that understands this from deep in their bones, and unequivocally refuses to play their game any longer — and not a moment before. Most of us have been waiting a long, long time for it; we can only hope we find our new Intimidator — a truly tough, no-nonsense, rough-and-tumble type who isn’t afraid to get a little blood on his shoes from kicking the poodles to the curb — before it’s too late.
The video of the black gay Tea Partyer getting harassed by angry leftists has been widely circulated and commented upon, and the reason I can’t stop thinking about it is not only because it demonstrates in a microcosm the nastiness of the left (I should probably say “the Jim Crow left” — more on that later), but because it is the most perfect example I have seen of pure non-narrativism. I don’t know whether that’s a word, but maybe it should be. Not only is the black gay Tea Partyer himself a triple narrative violation, but people on the left hate to be caught in a multiple violations of their own narrative, which is they are never racist, and never homophobic.
Isn’t sending his chief thug Richard Trumka on his behalf enough for these people? Do they really believe the Coward-in-Chief is going to show up and walk a picket line like he promised to?
$165,000,000 divided 14 ways works out to just over $14.78 million per AWOL state Senator: personally, I say that they should have their paychecks garnished for it. Forever. And then send the remainder of the bill to the Wisconsin Democratic party, since they’re so happy to spend other people’s money on their own petulant political gestures…
This is a good review of what has occured over the past few weeks-State of the Goonion
Since the 2008 election, the Left-leaning bias of the mainstream media has only become more glaring. You only find a brief mention of the incident in the Sacramento Bee that doesn’t include the scope of Stanhope’s injuries.
Without new media, the despicable conduct of the Left wouldn’t be reported at all. Instead, the media does everything it can to malign conservatives and the Tea Party movement, all but manufacturing incidents, while the Left continues its outrageous and irresponsible behavior at protest after protest.
Okay class, fill in the blanks: Liberalism is a ____________ ____________.
If you said “mental disorder” give yourself a cookie.
As my husband said, that guy ain’t right.
Pretty sick – If not criminal.
Because it never hurts to bleat on one of the world’s most annoying thingamabobs when trying to get your point across in politics.
In the words of James Taranto, Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for comment.
Among the donors involved in the discussions is Rob McKay, the son of the founder of Taco Bell. Now a San Francisco-based activist, Mr. McKay leads a group of wealthy Democrats who fund liberal organizations.
Until now, how species such as loggerhead sea turtles manage to migrate thousands of miles across oceans with no visual landmarks has been a mystery.
Now researchers from the University of North Carolina believe they have found the answer.
Loggerhead sea turtles appear to be able to determine their longitude using two sets of magnetic cues. It is the first time this ability has been shown in any migratory animal.
With so many serious things happening in the world today….I thought this would add a little laughter to your day. This is a video of a baby laughing hysterically at her daddy ripping up a job rejection letter.
