Remember this everytime some Obama regime/MSM/LLP talking head tries to pedal the “Muslim Brotherhood is a secular, peaceful organization that wouldn’t hurt a fly” shinola-Mohamed Atta and the Muslim Brotherhood
There’s absolutely nothing to worry about. I know this because Smart Liberals said so.
MSNBC’s Obamaworshipping Mika Brzezinski gets schooled-If You Only Watch One Smack-Down Today, Make It This One
The result has been a foreign-policy debacle. The president has alienated everybody: not only Mubarak’s cronies in the military, but also the youthful crowds in the streets of Cairo. Whoever ultimately wins, Obama loses. And the alienation doesn’t end there. America’s two closest friends in the region—Israel and Saudi Arabia—are both disgusted. The Saudis, who dread all manifestations of revolution, are appalled at Washington’s failure to resolutely prop up Mubarak. The Israelis, meanwhile, are dismayed by the administration’s apparent cluelessness.
Egypt? On my top five of regimes I want the US to undermine, Egypt places… not on the list. I suppose in an expanded list it would come somewhere between The Netherlands and one of those made-up countries in tv shows, like East Pretendistan.
But even assuming we wished for this to happen (and, um, we didn’t), did Obama have a damn thing to do with it?
We know that Bush actually put money into liberalizing Egypt, and Obama not only slashed that funding, but he put a stricture on the funding that it could only flow to groups specifically approved of by the Eygptian government.
It seems when it comes to even soft power, Obama’s against it — he’s not only willing to do business with dictators, he’s positively giddy at the prospect.
I liked this exchange on the Instapundit blog.
From Ann Althouse: “Why do some people presume the best of the Egyptian protesters and the worst of the Tea Party protesters?”
From Glenn Reynolds: “Because the Tea Party protesters threaten their power, their profits, or their self-regard. And the Egyptians don’t.”
Besides, the Egyptians are anti-American while the Tea Party is not.
Oh, yeah, like this is really going to prove helpful…“Breaking”: Senator Thurston Howell Ketchup Jets Off to Pakistan to Calm Diplomatic Tensions
Great. Just what Raymond Davis needs. A
blow-dried show dog humping the Pakistanis legsUS Senator mucking things up.
We’d like to believe this is just a low-level security official doing a little bragging, but in light of recent events it’s not a question of if, but when. And it may be a case of right now and right here.
We know state sponsors of terror have nuclear material, and terrorist groups have plans for such material. We know OTMs — other than Mexicans — have been coming across our border with the flood of illegal immigrants. We know that cross-border tunnels capable of smuggling more than drugs, guns and people have been uncovered.
If the cartels can smuggle drugs and people into America, Hezbollah and al-Qaida have to know they can smuggle in trained terrorists or the makings of a dirty bomb.
If Islamists do it, we carpet-bomb Mecca. No questions asked.
Sorry, hun, if that happens (G_d Forbid) and Obama is still President he will just go over there and grovel to them.
“It’s wreaking a little bit of havoc on the market,” Oakes Farm Market Manager Eric Oakes said.
With so many crops killed off by the cold, produce shop owners are seeing tomato prices triple. Cases that usually cost $12-15 are up to $40.
I like to compare high food prices to high blood pressure in an individual — a kind of silent killer, until it’s no longer silent.
A great famine in 1788 led to the French Revolution. The Tunisia and Egypt revolutions began as food riots. When a man can’t feed himself and his family, he will not sit quietly.
From Korea to Egypt, and around the rest of the world, the greatest threat to world stability today is the continual surge in food prices. Unless food prices fall this year, which nobody is predicting as far as I know, the world could be a different place by the end of the year.
By the fall, people will most likely be paying more for each of them, as rising prices hit most consumer goods, say retailers, food companies and manufacturers of consumer products.
Cotton prices are near their highest level in more than a decade, after adjusting for inflation, and leather and polyester costs are jumping as well. Copper recently hit its highest level in about 40 years, and iron ore, used for steel, is fetching extremely high prices. Prices for corn, sugar, wheat, beef, pork and coffee are soaring. Labor overseas is becoming more expensive, meanwhile, and so are the utility bills to keep a factory running.
Silver and particularly gold rose sharply on the release of the higher than expected UK inflation data. It showed that UK inflation quickened to 26 month highs at 4.0%. Currency debasement and higher food and energy prices are leading to an inflation surge in both developed and emerging markets. The Chinese inflation data appears to be even more misleading and manipulated than that in western economies. Many governments are attempting to manage consumers perceptions regarding the significant increase in the cost of living as fiat currencies are debased. Silver is now less than 2% from its 30 year nominal high of $31.25/oz seen at the start of the year and looks set to challenge and surpass this level in the coming days due to continued robust physical demand (both investment and industrial) and the fact that the futures market is seeing some big money go long again after the recent correction. Silver remains in backwardation with spot trading at $30.68/oz while the July 11 contract trades at $30.55/oz and the December 14 at $30.40/oz.
Coming into an environment where the most-recent stimulative tax cuts didn’t stimulate, this is likely to bring us some interesting economic releases. My expectations are for serious profit declines which should become apparently in the first quarter reports and lead to a full-on profit collapse by the end of 2011. Exactly how long the markets will ignore these realities is difficult to determine, but I will say this: If you’ve made some nice money in the stock market on the back of so-called recovery, your “use by” date has expired and in my view you’re now living on borrowed time.
The latest numbers show inflation is soaring out of control in China. The CPI is up 4.9% year-over-year, up from 4.6% in December. The PPI clocked in at 6.6% compared with 5.9% last month.
Things are even worse than they appear at first glance because China manipulated its CPI basket to reduce the impact of soaring food prices. Thus, China’s CPI numbers are not directly comparable to previous months.
Here is your “Happy Post” of the day…A 5-Year Scenario: 2011-2016
The wheels fall off the global “recovery,” the emerging market equity bubbles, oil, China’s equities and its property bubble, and most if not all commodities. Gold and silver swoon as per late 2008 as raising cash become paramount. Oil retraces to the $40/barrel level, and then drops further as exporters ramp up their exports to generate desperately needed cash. Interest rates rise sharply, risk assets tank, borrowing dries up, housing prices “slip” to new lows (the stick-slip phenomenon), and the hated/loathed U.S. dollar confounds almost everyone by breaking out of technical resistance levels. Civil disorder spreads along with recession and lower energy prices, which devastate oil exporters’ primary source of government revenues. With better grain harvests stemming from improved weather, declining meat consumption in 2012 due to recession and the implosion of the market for corn ethanol, grain prices plummet, wiping out all the speculators who reckoned 2010 had set the trend for the decade. All of this starts slowly in Q3 2011 but gathers momentum in 2012.
This is another thing that will cause prices to rise-The Pirates are Winning
I have previously recommended something like the following concerning pirates: tell the lawyers to go home, find the pirates, line them up on the deck of the ship, and shoot each and every one of them. Dump their bodies into the sea, and videotape the entire event. Post the video to YouTube as a warning to future pirates. Thus, an end to piracy.
Of course, this seems brutal and uncivilized to many. Indeed it is. But value judgments have a way of being nuanced, difficult things that eventually turn on you and create unintended consequences. My recommendation is brutal, but consider the alternatives. Hostages continue to be taken, ransoms are paid, lives are lost in a continual drip and drain of violence in the Gulf of Aden, and – perhaps best of all – yes, the world funds Islamic militancy with the ransoms.
When Barack Obama, the worst jobs president since the Great Depression, talks about creating jobs… He’s not telling the truth.
Germany’s Deutsche Börse and the NYSE Euronext agreed on a $10 billion all-stock merger today. The deal will combine two of the world’s biggest stock exchanges.
The bottom line is this: Either the original issue of that mortgage and its subsequent securitization went through all previously-required assignments and you can prove it or your ability to convey a title via Trustee Sale is gone.
Awwww those poor widdle banksters that cheated on the rules…. looks like Arizona has had enough of their games and is going to body-slam them all in favor of their citizens. BRAVO!
Now to get this introduced and passed in all 50 states….. a refreshing instance of legislation that actually both defends property rights and fits on one page!
House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan dubbed President Obama’s budget “debt on arrival,” in the first Republican response to the $3.7 trillion plan released by the White House Monday, adding “it would be better if we did nothing than if we passed this budget.”
I am no birther. All my bad jokes about a Hawaiian birth certificate aside, I fully believe Barack Obama was born in the USA.
The question now is whether he still lives here.
Looking at his economic policies as president, I get the feeling he is living in some other nation where the government’s powers are unrestricted by a constitution and where all the people look to the fearless leader for guidance on all things economic.
Maybe he lives in Pyongyang.
DeMint said brilliantly, for a president who wants to “win the future” he is certainly stepping on the gas pedal to financial ruin.
However, a private citizen who has more power to put the focus on political debate than any other I’ve ever seen, is Governor Sarah Palin.
Our politicians can’t be trusted to do the right thing later; we need to make them do it now. If we let them, our politicians will give us deficit reduction that is all jam yesterday and jam tomorrow, but never jam today–and we’ll end up in an ugly fiscal crisis that will force ugly tax hikes, cruel and sudden service cuts, and ugly debt service requirements on all the folks on both sides who are hoping that if they delay long enough, they can somehow get a better deal for their side. Unless politicians get serious about deficit reduction right now–not seven years in the future–they’re going to tax-cut-and-spend us straight into the poorhouse.
This was supposed to be the moment we were all waiting for. After three years of historic deficits that have added almost $4.5 trillion to the national debt, President Obama was finally going to get serious about fiscal discipline. Instead, what landed on Congress’s doorstep on Monday was a White House budget that increases deficits above the spending baseline for the next two years. Hosni Mubarak was more in touch with reality last Thursday night.
Is Barack Obama trying to play a joke on all of us? The budget that the Obama administration has submitted for fiscal 2012 is so out of touch with reality that it may as well be a budget for “Narnia”, “Fantasy Island”, “Atlantis” or some other mythical land.
The Great Society social programs of the 1960s led to the Great Inflation of the 1970s.
President Obama’s resurrection of those programs — spending like there is no tomorrow — has brought inflation back.
Your tax dollars at work:
There’s no need for the government to be subsidizing a highly partisan ‘news’ network. If the product they produce is as good as they seem to think it is, they will have no trouble raising the money on their own.
As shareholders, when might we expect a dividend check? The general taxpaying public will probably see Justin Bieber on the cover of AARP Magazine before that happens. Taxpayers were so reluctant to hold a share that GM figured we’d also be reluctant to accept a bonus payment — so instead of insulting us again, they’re just spreading it all around amongst themselves
After GE’s ‘secret’ $16 billion taxpayer-funded bailout while US Government enforced the use of GE mercury-laced light bulbs on American citizens, President Obama called on GE’s chief Jeffrey Immelt to head his economic recovery advisory panel as Obama made ‘special arrangements’ for the upcoming $53 billion in taxpayer funds used to subsidize GE’s construction of a high-speed rail system.
Having spent $5 billion in the past five months on energy-related purchases, today we learn that GE is ‘somehow’ able to cough up another $2.8 billion for the purchase of the John Wood Group – a British oil and energy services firm.
Speaking of ‘oil’, remember Obama dumping BP stock weeks before the Gulf oil spill? Remember when Obama pals Warren Buffet and George Soros started buying Brazilian? HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
And get this, GE chief Jeffrey Immelt – yes, the same Jeffery Immelt mentioned earlier – will see that ‘bankrupt’ GE spends ‘up to $30 billion on takeovers in the coming years.’ Of course conveniently-blind mainstream media (including MSNBC which is owned by GE) is crowing about the anticipated ‘GE $ billion spending spree’ as if it was an accomplishment or some measure of GE’s ‘success’
But that robust growth is forecast to cool this year due to the expiration of tax incentives for some vehicle purchases and a renewed effort by cities to bring traffic under control.”Is the recent collectivist action to cool off purchasing actually going to have an adverse impact not only on GM’s margins but its sales as well? Why yes. But the market will be stunned when this is publicly announced shortly.
The role of government should be to provide the most services at the least cost. The role of unions is to provide the fewest services at the most cost. The unions succeeded.
Then the ungrateful extortionists piss and moan and bitch and whine about how underpaid they are.
Well if they are underpaid, they have a choice. They can leave. And that is exactly what New Jersey Governor Christie tells union members who whine in that state.
To all those under 30 who worked so hard to get this man elected, know this: he just screwed you over. He thinks you’re fools. Either the US will go into default because of Obama’s cowardice, or you will be paying far far more for far far less because this president has no courage when it counts. He let you down. On the critical issue of America’s fiscal crisis, he represents no hope and no change. Just the same old Washington politics he once promised to end.
Obama is setting up a confrontation and he plans to win.
Obama is betting that he can force the GOP to make their proposed cuts, which he can blame them for, which he can truthfully say he does not support. Then he can attack the Republicans for making the cuts. He will appeal to the people who are suffering from the cuts, and strip away GOP support. They will be angry and mobilized.
Obama then plans to force the GOP into a funding crisis just as Clinton did. Obama plans to destroy the GOP reform wave of 2011 just as Clinton destroyed the GOP reform effort in 1995.
Obama’s team attempted to use the Tucson massacre in the same fashion that Clinton used the Oklahoma City bombings, to discredit the GOP. Obama is acutely aware of the Clinton playbook. This is another re-run.
Speaking of Clinton reruns…George Stephanopoulos: Americans Want More Government Spending… Record Deficits Are Bush’s Fault (Video)
Just so you know… There’s a reason the state-run media does not show you this deficit chart. Then they couldn’t blame Bush.
Obama’s “stash” really existed. Who knew?
His beloved teleprompter TOTUS playing another practical joke?
Anyone else getting a thrill up their leg?
Tom Perez is tasked today with the unenviable job of putting lipstick on the DOJ’s military voting pig. No doubt he’ll talk about the Department’s “aggressive enforcement” and multiple lawsuits. He’ll leave out the part about it taking weeks to file the lawsuits after the violations were discovered by Pajamas Media. He’ll omit the part about tedious delays, talk, and negotiations instead of action in the precious days leading up to the election.
I doubt he will mention Maryland and the unconstitutional plan the DOJ greenlighted there which resulted in wholesale disenfranchisement of military voters. Thankfully, we can count on Eric Eversole to tell Congress how the Justice Department blessed a plan for Maryland to send ballots overseas that omitted state contests, like the one between Governor Martin O’Malley and Republican challenger Bob Ehrlich.
I have learned through multiple sources with direct knowledge that the Perez- and Julie Fernandes-run Voting Section advised states that it would be acceptable under federal law to omit down-ballot state contests and only give servicemembers overseas the right to vote in federal contests.
Madam Pigford better hope they don’t play this as evidence in the case or she’ll will be laughed out of court.
For the record… Sherrods’ New Communities Incorporated was paid some $13 million, the largest amount awarded to any organization, out of a $1 billion paid out in Pigford settlements scandal.
If you have been reading Ulsterman’s White House Insider” series you will understand why they are doing this-Darrell Issa Meets The Democrats’ New Civility
The Democratic war room is back in action, and it is aimed at Darrell Issa, the California Republican Congressman who heads the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
As reported by Politico, there is an almost unprecedented effort by Democrats to undermine Issa not for anything he does in Congress, but by trying to dig up supposedly negative facts against him and thereby force Issa to defend himself rather than carry on his congressional probes of the Obama administrations
Speaking of Ulsterman…The Ulsterman Report: Sex and Murder in The Land of Obama?
With my new awareness of myself and the world around me, I decided to keep my eyes open for someone I can trust, someone who represents truth, honesty, goodness, and above all, strength of character.
Enter Sarah Palin. The moment I heard her speak, I knew she was special. There was an unmistakable honesty and strength about her. All hell broke loose on the left when she entered the scene. The ferociousness and vileness of the attacks towards her comforted me because I know how the left operates. She was telling the truth, and in doing so was exposing the underlying falsehoods of their belief system. This is when the left always lashes out, it is their gut reaction to their fear of being exposed, and anger and hate speech are their weapons. If you look at the response and reaction to Sarah Palin from the left, you will realize that this isn’t just about political views. Their intense, over-the-top reaction to everything she says and does is because they know she holds the truth that threatens to destabilize their world.
Enter Kevin DuJan, founder of Hillbuzz.org. Kevin’s situation is very similar to mine. He is a gay conservative man living in a predominately gay neighborhood referred to as “Boystown” in Chicago. Along with Sarah Palin, Kevin is my main source of inspiration and courage. Every day of his life he fights and challenges the Liberal Goliath by highlighting the intolerance and lies perpetrated by the left. He inspired me to take my turn, to step up and be, as Sarah Palin put it, a “patriotic David”.
With the graphic talents of a fellow Hillbuzzer, Susan, I was going to fight back. I was going to take back my power. And I was going to do it in a creative and positive way.
Without recording this information, ICE certainly won’t be deporting all deportable Reconquistadors. But then, with the border unsecured, they would just bounce back anyway. Unless our rulers want the border respected, the entire immigration bureaucracy is a sham, existing only so that the Obama Misadministration has a lame excuse to forbid states from enforcing the law.
It appears that ICE’s main mission under the Obama regime is to stop people from robbing Lady Gaga of royalty money. It is like NASA’s new main mission under the Obama regime is being a Muslim outreach organization…Feds Seize 18 More Domains in Piracy Crackdown
Had a conservative written this about a liberal, there would be fireworks at every media outlet. Since a liberal wrote it, it has been ignored. Waiting for liberals to condemn AlterNet in 3…2….2….2…..2….
But keep the spinning coming, Democrats. See how it all works out for you on November 6, 2012.
Let me guess — the SEIU is going to be getting into the breast pump and nursing pad business
Why again are incandescent bulbs an “unsafe product”? Oh yeah, they make it be too hot outside, endangering the sacred polar bears.
Message to the NFL and the players therein: DON’T KILL THE GOLDEN GOOSE!
They suspect some large planet is out there because comets aren’t coming out of the cloud at the predicted angles, something they think could be explained by the presence of a hitherto-unknown mass kaffoodling with their trajectories.
Hey, it can get really lonely trapped down there for a couple of months. On the upside, they were at least given some marijuana to smoke.
