Daily Dive-1 Feb 11

I have been warning people about this situation for months (before I started this blog) and now it is unfolding before our eyes.

One of the benefits of America finally seeing what Zimbabwe went through as it entered hyperinflation, ignoring for a second that the Zimbabwe stock market was the best performing market, putting Bernanke’s liquidity pump to shame, is that very soon everyone will be naked, once companies finally realize they have no choice but to pass through surging input costs. And while some may be ecstatic by the S&P’s modest rise YTD, it is nothing compared to what virtually every single agricultural product has done in the first month of 2011. To wit: Corn spot up 7.76%, wheat up 5.63%, Rice up 10.08%, Hogs up 10.16%, Sugar up 5.64%, Orange Juice up 3.33%, and cotton…. up 17.08%.That’s in one month!

Hosni Mubarak Is About To Speak, And Announce That He Will Not Run For Re-Election

Egyptian Vice President Talks with Opposition; Military Recognizes “Legitimacy of the People’s Demands”; Can the U.S. Deal with ElBaradei?

With each passing day, Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak’s control is rapidly dissipating. The crisis is now in day seven. The military, called in to keep peace, has sided with the people. Some tanks even display anti-government messages.

It what seems to be a last ditch effort to buy time, Egypt’s newly appointed Vice President is in talks with the opposition. That is a sign Mubarak may be in his final days before some agreement to replace him is hashed out.

Egypt’s conflicting views of democracy and religion

Last year the Pew Research Center Global Attitudes Project conducted a survey of opinion in several Muslim countries. The subject was the proper role of Islam in politics and society. One of the countries surveyed was Egypt, and among other discoveries, the Pew researchers found that 84 percent of Egyptians favor the death penalty for people who leave the Muslim religion.

In another survey, Pew found that 90 percent of Egyptians say they believe in freedom of religion. Pew also found that a majority of Egyptians think democracy, with protections of free speech and assembly, is “preferable to any other kind of government.”

How can those attitudes fit together in a democratic post-Mubarak Egypt? It’s no wonder so many people can’t figure out what is next.

EU Fails to Issue Statement Regarding Attacks Against Coptic Christians in Islamic World

Why on earth not, you ask?  Because the British foreign minister felt it wasn’t politically correct to use the word “Christian” in describing the victims of the attack.

Watching Egypt Burn: An Israeli Perspective

The Rest of the World Has Gone Mad — Why Shouldn’t Egypt?

This is the course of the Obama administration and what I’ve been warning about since it took office. Now the moment of anti-glory has arrived. Who is dumb enough to want to be a U.S. ally under these conditions?

Let me stress that the Mubarak regime has been repressive and corrupt. It is understandable that the people of Egypt want more freedom and a better life. So did the people of Russia in 1917, those of Germany in 1932 (they had a republic but most of them hated it), those of Iran in 1978, and those in the Gaza Strip in 2006. One can only sympathize with their situation.

But we are tottering on the edge of catastrophe here and the Obama administration is pushing Egypt into the chasm.

Can a President Who Does Not Believe in Islamofascism Be Able to Understand the Dangers of the Muslim Brotherhood?

Alan Colmes: Threat From Muslim Brotherhood “A Myth”

It’s almost like Alan and Think Progress wanted to hide something.

Video of MSNBC Correspondant: Muslim Brotherhood A “Reasonable Organization” Of Community Organizers Or Something

The Muslim Brotherhood whose branches are terrorist organizations like Hamas, exists to 1) wipe Israel off the face of the planet, and 2) to subvert and take over Western civilization in its entirety making all nations on the planet Muslim caliphates. Yet for those taking the blue pill and living in ignorant bliss, the brotherhood is akin to the Jonas brothers.

Always remember that the LLP’s and their MSM propaganda wings in Europe and the Anglosphere and the Islamofascists are allies of convenience and the LLP’s are using the Islamofascists as their proxy army. If you keep that in mind then all of their actions make sense despite the fact that according to the LLP’s statements they are diametrically opposed to everything Islamofascism stands for. The problem for the LLP’s is that they think they will be able to control and finally discard the Islamofascists once they achieve their common goal (the destruction of western civilization and the institution of a world government) the harsh truth is that the Islamofascists will chop their heads off once they get done using them.

Massive Turnout For Egyptian Protests. Is Jordan Next?

Jordan isn’t Egypt but clearly people want more. Abdullah’s moves though may be too late, too late to hold back the tide sweeping the Mideast. Remember, about 1/3 of Jordan’s population is Palestinian and there has been, unpleasantness there before.

Want more? Some Syrian opposition groups are calling for protests this weekend. I hope this isn’t some sort of false flag operation by the Syrian security forces to smoke out would-be opponents because Syria doesn’t play when it comes to this stuff.

Interesting times, to say the least.

Jordan next?

Israel has grown accustomed to existing in a sea of hostile and unstable nations, but that may grow even worse with the news that King Abdullah II of Jordan has sacked his entire government in response to protests. Seeking to head off a crisis like the one in Egypt, Abdullah has promised a new set of political reforms that will “correct the mistakes of the past”

Did Jordan’s King Abdullah Push the Panic Button?

Although the situation in Jordan has not escalated to the level it has in Egypt, I am certain Israel is surely as uneasy with the developments in Jordan as it is in Egypt. The prospect of renewed hostilities with both Egypt and Jordan at a time when the regime in Iran is bent on Israel’s destruction (along with Syria and Hezbollah controlled Lebanon) and not to mention its ongoing troubles with Hamas in Gaza could result in the worst crisis in Israel’s six plus decades.

America and the Middle East Food Riots

There is no quicker way to foment riots and revolution than to deprive the populace of food, particularly when so much daily income goes into feeding oneself and one’s family.  The pictures we have seen in North Africa may well be repeated elsewhere throughout the world.  This time, the “Law of Unintended Consequences”  wrought by the policies of the American left and the Obama administration will be limited not only to the United States, but also to many throughout the world.  If the riots in Egypt and the Middle East take a severe and radical turn, then the prospect of open warfare in that region, which will involve the United States, will become a near certainty.

The Arab Dilemma: Dictators, the Dollar, and Demographics

The problem with the Arab version of “regionalism” and creating a unified economic bloc, it would not behave like a NAFTA or European Union type of structure. The young and old all long for the glory days of empire when the Caliphates of Islam ruled from Spain to India and the center of world commerce flowed through their region while the world bowed down to the sword of Allah and the followers. Thus the demographic time bomb has a fuse which has been lit, and thus far two of the bombs have exploded in Tunisia and Egypt, with the fuse getting dangerously short in Yemen, Jordan, Algeria, and many other nations in the MENA region.

For these regions I warn my readers, do not accept the Washington think-tank doublespeak nor the professorial nonsense some may espouse in the weeks ahead that everything will be fine and U.S. foreign policy is sound. Regardless of the outcome of the Egyptian crisis, there are more problems to come as the region experiences the onslaught of decades of self inflicted despotism antagonized further by the incompetence of the world’s central banks.

Here is a scary question for you-What Will Obama Do if Egyptian-Style Crisis, Unrest and Revolt Hits America?

So how will President Obama react to massive protests, riots, and revolt in the USA? Will he choose to shut down the Internet? He criticizes Mubarak, yet Obama is already asking Congress for the authority to do just that (without judicial review). Will Obama cut off access to Facebook and Twitter? Will he try to shut down talk radio and FOX News? Obama and his Democratic allies have already suggested doing that (before a true crisis) with “The Fairness Act.” Will Obama attempt to ban guns? He has already come out strongly in support of gun control or bans on numerous occasions before he was even elected President. Will Obama call in the military to contain the riots of unemployed, hungry, angry youth here in America’s biggest cities? Will he allow free speech — even if massive protests call for Obama to step down?

Is Obama taking notes in Egypt? He had better. Because Egypt’s crisis could eventually be coming to a city near you.

Coming soon to a country near you…The Internet Kill Switch – One Of The Favorite New Tools Of Tyrannical Governments All Over The Globe Read the whole thing.

Egypt’s Internet crackdown makes “kill switch” bill a wee bit less popular

Imagine if the government had the power to disconnect an entire country from its Internet service.  Actually, we don’t have to imagine it; we have seen it happen in the past week, as the Mubarak regime in Egypt tried in vain to keep protesters from organizing on Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking platforms.  In a display of exquisitely bad timing, two US Senators will reintroduce a bill that would put the same power in the hands of the executive branch after the practical demonstration of how useful — and ultimately useless — it is for squelching dissent

How To Communicate if Your Government Shuts Off Your Internet

Scenario: Your government is displeased with the communication going on in your location and pulls the plug on your internet access, most likely by telling the major ISPs to turn off service.

This is what happened in Egypt Jan. 25 prompted by citizen protests, with sources estimating that the Egyptian government cut off approximately 88 percent of the country’s internet access. What do you do without internet? Step 1: Stop crying in the corner. Then start taking steps to reconnect with your network. Here’s a list of things you can do to keep the communication flowing.

The following reminds me of that old quote about how Fascism is always descending on America but ends up landing on Europe. In this case violence and terrorism is always coming from America loving Christian conservatives and the Tea Party but in actuality is coming from the America hating Leftist/Liberal/”Progressives”.

Except it turns out that  that Stockham (or Hem Ahadin, as he likes to be called) apparently considered himself   some sort of Muslim terrorist, which of course doesn’t explain why he would target a mosque.

The whole thing is just weird.

But I’m gonna go out on a limb here, and say it’s doubtful that Beck, Limbaugh, Palin, Hannity, and Peter King had anything to do with it.

Why the Left Thinks Everyone Is Far Right

The left seem pretty disconnected from the majority of Americans these days. Like remember how they were attacking the Arizona law on illegal immigrants like it was a far right thing and the same for people not wanting a mosque at Ground Zero? But both of those had like 70% support and were clearly centrist, yet the left seemed convinced they were far right ideas.

I thought I’d illustrate why the left has such trouble perceiving the actual center of American politics.

Obama’s Ongoing War on Inspectors General

But we have some people looking out for our futures in the government — and these people have been subject to a great deal of pressure from the White House. These are the inspectors general — the unsung heroes of the government who monitor government agencies.

They take their duties to the taxpayers seriously.  We are lucky to have them looking out for waste and corruption.  For the last two years, they have stood up and reported on waste of taxpayer dollars and various other suspect activities. This is precisely what seems to have earned them pride of place on Obama’s ever-growing enemies list.

Presenting The Treasury’s Options To Continue Pretending The US Is Solvent

As noted above, passage of an increase in the debt limit will occur at some point, because the consequences of not enacting an increase are too high.  However, it is quite possible that this issue could stretch out over several months, with one or more small increases (e.g., $100bn or $200bn at a time) to buy additional time as lawmakers try to fashion a more lasting solution.  And even once this occurs, the issue will recur from time to time until the federal deficit comes down.  After all, the last increase—of $1.9trn—lasted barely more than a year.  So keep this daily comment handy.

Bubble-headed nonsense from the left about income inequality

The fact remains that economic opportunity is lacking in Egypt not because of “capitalist exploiters” but because of government oppression and favoritism.

Jesse Jackson Wants Big Government to Take Over Most Everything

If these dictatorial fools don’t send a chill up your spine, brush up on 20th century history.

Waah, Republicans are tearing up the credit card

From Tax Cheat Tim Geithner: “Never in our history has Congress failed to increase the debt limit when necessary. Failure to raise the limit would precipitate a default by the United States. Default would effectively impose a significant and long-lasting tax on all Americans and all American businesses and could lead to the loss of millions of American jobs. Even a very short-term or limited default would have catastrophic economic consequences that would last for decades. Failure to increase the limit would be deeply irresponsible. For these reasons, I am requesting that Congress act to increase the limit early this year, well before the threat of default becomes imminent.”

Got that?

Failing to spend money we do not have is irresponsible.

But the money for the loan payment is there and we will not go into default if we refuse to borrow more money.

And borrowing money to make a loan payment is stupid.

State pensions and bankruptcy–a leftist’s lament

But nevertheless, the simple reality of the situation in the states is this – they overpromised something for which they haven’t the revenue to fulfill.  What would Baker have them do except restructure that debt so it is both affordable and something they can manage?  The fact that a state promised something it hasn’t the means to produce doesn’t make what it promises sacrosanct.  Especially if the means for fulfilling it is more debt or much higher taxes for those who aren’t affected by the problem.

A Snap Shot of Congressional Arrogance

Shocking, no? Shocking, yes. What is shocking is what this story reveals about the U.S. Senate. It reveals that the Senate is the problem in Washington, not the solution. These snooty, arrogant cusses are far more concerned with their status, their place and their position and with keeping those new to the game down than they are about actually doing their jobs. They are more interested in massaging their already bloated egos than in working for the betterment of the country.

Health Care Unconstitutional: Obama Sedition?

Yes, that’s a strong word.

It may also be appropriate.

Obamacare Meets Its Death Panel

The Left’s reaction has been humorous. Powerline notes Ezra Klein’s particular reaction. Klein, you will remember, only a few short weeks ago declared the constitution difficult to understand because it was written more than 100 years ago. He then, being a non-lawyer, did his best to explain Judge Vinson’s decision to readers of the Washington Post and bungled badly.

Bush v. Gore is the best comparison the left can come up with while attacking Judge Roy’s political motivations.

Obama Administration Says Health Care Law Is All Or Nothing. Judge Gives Them Nothing.

As a result, Vinson concludes that “the individual mandate is indisputably necessary to the Act’s insurance market reforms, which are, in turn, indisputably necessary to the purpose of the Act.” Essentially, the administration’s lawyers argued that the health care law wouldn’t work without the mandate, and Vinson took them at their word.

Unconstitutional: Florida judge strikes down Obamacare mandate; full decision embedded; all 47 GOP Senators sign on to DeMint repeal bill; White House reax: ruling is “odd,” “overreaching” “activism;” DOJ readies appeal

Hey, remember when conservatives objected to the Obamacare federal individual mandate on constitutional grounds and the liberal establishment laughed?

The word of the day: “Void.”

The constitutional clause of the day: The Commerce Clause.

A moratorium needed for Obamacare until its constitutionality is decided

Congress should declare a moratorium on the health care reform law until the courts can settle the issue of its linchpin — the individual mandate. Even supporters of Obamacare, perhaps even Obama himself, might concede that the law won’t work as intended until the courts settle the core constitutional issues. What harm would there be in placing Obamacare on hold?

Certainly no American should be paying the higher prices for a health care plan now that could very easily, in the end, disappear with a strike of a judge’s gavel.

The bill, which would take effect Jan. 1, 2012, would give people six months to acquire a firearm after turning 21. The provision does not apply to people who are barred from owning a firearm.

Nor does the measure specify what type of firearm. Instead, residents would pick one “suitable to their temperament, physical capacity, and preference.”

Public School Segregation Returns, But With Good Intentions

As Sinclair Lewis should have said, when segregation returns to American public schools it will come wrapped in a union contract and carrying a copy of The State of America’s Children. A high school principal in Lancaster, Pennsylvania is defending a policy of separating an underperforming segment of the student body — and he’s not talking about the Amish. From the Daily Mail:

“The scheme, at McCaskey East High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, separates black students from the rest of the school pupils, and then further breaks it down into black females and black males.

The separation is only for a short period  – six minutes each day and 20 minutes twice a month – but it has drawn criticism for raising the spectre of racial segregation.”

That use of “spectre” (apologies for any and all U.K. spellings) is cute. If the specter of segregation is being raised that’s because the policy is in fact segregation.
